-------------------------------------
THIS GUIDE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
ONLY THE STEPS TO GET YOUR PSP TO
FIRMWARE 1.50 HAVE BEEN ADDED SO FAR
-------------------------------------

This guide is written to help other newbie’s get to the sage of running a 3.0X OE
custom firmware on there psp, I myself as a newbie knows how hard it is to find a
guide you can follow without getting lost so I wrote this to try and help other
newbie’s get there psp up and running.

now there are easy downgrader and tools which you can use to do these steps
but i perfer to to it the way it was done originaly so that i can hoe to get
exactly the same result as the person Who developed it.

Getting started:
Finding out your Firmware version and psp type
Is your PSP TA 082?
getting required files to downgrade / Upgrade
downgrading your psp to 1.5 (scariest part of the lot!!)

-----------------------------------
Finding out your Firmware version
-----------------------------------

turn on your psp and go to the setting option,
scroll down to System settings and select it,
then go to System Information and select it.

you should now see 3 items listed on your screen:

MAC Address xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
System Software x.xx
Nickname xxxxxx

Your Firmware version is the number next to System Software,
It should be one of the following:
1.00 - 1.50
2.00 - 2.50 - 2.60 - 2.70 - 2.71 - 2.80 - 2.81 - 2.82
3.00 - 3.01 - 3.02 - 3.03

Now if your psp Firmware is version 2.81 2.82 3.00 3.01 3.02 3.03
then your out of luck for now because there is currently no downgrades
for those firmware versions yet :(

if your firmware is 1.00 to 2.80 then your fine to continue with this guide.
OK now to clear something else up there was an issue with PSP's bricking because
they were of a certain model,(most new ones) so heres a link to finding out
which model you have, if you have this TA 08X model you still can continue
with this guide because thanks to Dark_AleX and friends there is now a Downgrader
Fix for this type of psp

now to find out if your PSP is a TA 082 Model:
This is a photo of where to look:
http://z.about.com/d/psp/1/0/9/1/-/-/pspboardphoto.jpg
or a simple Diagram:
http://z.about.com/d/psp/1/0/8/1/-/-/pspboard.jpg

If the code is on the right where the images say "= TA-082" then you will need to
follow the next step before downgrading if your model isn't TA you should be Safe
to Skip this step and continue :D

----------------------------------------------
getting required files to downgrade / Upgrade
----------------------------------------------
ill do the TA-0XX model First since there more complicated, well not really :P

Grab these 3 downloads:
TA-082 Downgrader: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/982
1.50 EBOOT (Official): http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4
Homebrew Enabler(HEN D): http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/922

Now follow this guide Carefully step by step, I have successfully downgraded
2 White PSP's with this guide, an i'm a Newbie!!

----------------------------------------------------
2.71 Downgrader Guide for TA-082 (Downgrader.lan.st)
----------------------------------------------------
This is an application to downgrade a ta-082 unit running 2.71 firmware and
HEN-D to 1.50, although theoretically can downgrade to any version, but only 1.50
has been tested.

The application, at the moment of writing this read me was tested in 5 psp’s,
with 5 success. As always, this kind of application have risks, this one in concrete
write to idstorage area of nand.

READ CAREFULLY THE INSTRUCTIONS AND DON’T SKIP ANY STEP
Remember its safer to just put your PSP on Charge and let it charge till your battery
is 100% charged.

Instructions

* Copy the UPDATE and idstoragechange folders into /PSP/GAME/

* Get the official sony 1.50 eboot and put it in the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder with the
name of UPDATE.PBP

* Run HEN-D if you are not already running it
(Hen-D is the distorted image in the Photo section on your psp)
screen will go blue then either Green or Red,
if screen green hen-D ran correctly and your psp should restart
if it goes red you need to turn off your psp and try again

* Execute the idstoragechange. It needs 75% battery. It will change some keys of your
idstorage needed to downgrade the ta-082.
(IDSTORAGE can be found in your games menu under memory stick)

* The program will exit to the XMB. Now execute the generic downgrade,
which will show in the xmb as “Update X.YX” in the psp language.
(Update X.YX is also found in the games menu under memory Stick)

* The generic downgrader will also need 75% battery. IT will downgrade your psp
to 1.50.

* At the end, it will ask you to press X to restart the psp. Do it.

* If all went fine, you’ll receive a blue screen telling you to press O.
Do it, and reenter your settings. Welcome to 1.50.
(The blue screen is basically telling you that all the setting are corrupt
and you need to re-enter them)

* If things didn’t go that fine, you’ll have a non-functional psp, aka brick.
You accepted that risk, remember.

Wahoo your 1.5 i hope sorry if you aren't but that is one of the risks.

----------------------------
Downgrade form 2.71 to 1.50
----------------------------
as allllllllways remember to charge your psp i recommend 100% just for safety reasons

Grab This Download:
2.71 Downdater (includes 1.50 HELPER): http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/753

2.71 to 1.50 Downgrader! Includes the required 1.50 helper [downdater] files.
Written by Dark_AleX, Mathieulh, and Yoshi. DOES NOT WORK ON TA-082 MOTHERBOARDS!

1. Copy the files inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick.
This zip has the Folder called downdater already in it so you just skip step 2

2. Wait someone with 1.50 to pass you a folder called DOWNDATER and copy it
to the root of your memstick.

3. It is recommended that you have the psp at more than 50% battery and connected to AC

4. Go to the xmb photo viewer.
At this point will see one of the following things:

* You'll see a full red screen.
This indicates that the downdater is doing its job. Wait for it to finish.
When it finish it will crash on purpose. Restart your psp manually and you'll
probably have a 1.50 PSP if nothing went wrong.

* You don't see the red screen.
This indicates that the downdater code has not started to execute.
(even if the memstick blinks(or not), it doesn't matter! if the screen is not red,
you can safely restart the psp at this point).

This happen because of instability in the tiff.

Don't worry, just restart the psp and keep trying until you reach the red screen of downdate.
The downdater code is NEVER executed partially. It's either executed totally or nothing.

It depends of "luck" but usually the downdater will start to execute in a average of 1/10 times.
Things that may increase the probabilities:

- A fresh formatted memory stick.
- A 32 MB memory stick (and fresh formatted)(you don't need a 32MB stick i used 1Gb :))

Keep tuned in theres more guide to come...............

some sections of this guide have been taken from sources on the net and have been modified slightly
to make them easier to understand.
if there is a section of this guide that you don't agree with or want remove please just email me and ill
get onto removing it and replacing it in my own words.

Installing the custom firmware 3.03 OE-A.

-----------------------
files your going to need:
-----------------------
grab both these files:
-----------------------
Custom Firmware 3.03 OE-A: Download (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GD266A19)
Custom Firmware Update 3.03 OE-A': Download (http://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=AN3FVC0D)
Sony 1.50 Update: Download (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4)
Sony 3.03 Update: Download (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/958)
-----------------------
Installing 3.03 OE-A:
-----------------------
now to save confusion i fond it is best to format your memory card before you do this step.

Extract the files somewhere on your computer,
there should be folders called oeupdatemaker and oeupdatemaker%
Copy them to /PSP/GAME.

Get the 1.50 and 3.03 sony updates,
extract them in seperate folders,
rename the file in the 1.50 folder to 150.PBP.
rename the file in the 3.03 folder to 303.PBP.
put both those files into /PSP/GAME/oeupdatemaker/

on your PSP go to game then memory stick and run oeupdatemaker
It will creat a file in the folder /PSP/GAME/oeupdatemaker/ called DATA.DXAR,

Copy 303oeflasher and 303oeflasher% form the extracted folder on the computer to /PSP/GAME and move the file DATA.DXAR from /PSP/GAME/oeupdatemaker/ to /PSP/GAME/303oeflasher.

on your psp in games, memorystick, Run 303oeflasher.
When it finishes, it will ask you to reboot your psp.
When your PSP starts up you will be in 3.03 OE-A.

-------------------------
Installing 3.03 OE-A' (A2):
-------------------------
Now to save confusion i found it is best to format your memory card before you do this step all so.

extract the Custom Firmware Update 3.03 OE-A' to your computer.
there should be a file in it called "EBOOT.PBP"
create a folder in /PSP/ called GAME150 if there isn't one
inside the folder /PSP/GAME150/ called UPDATE
copy the file EBOOT.PBP to /PSP/GAME150/UPDATE/

on your PSP under games, Memory stick, run the update when you restart your psp it will be in 3.03 OE-A'
you can now format your memory stick to get rid of any garbage on it

welcome to the world of custom firmware!

I recently downgraded a 2.71 TA-082 using HEN-D mainly from the great tuturial by p0Wer, with some help from searching this and some other forums. I've seen some questions (mainly on running HEN-D) on this forum that are some of the same ones that I had so I decided to repost the tutorial with comments at parts where I added further clarification. I've color coded the sections where I have spliced in sections from other contributors. Hopefully this helps out. Edit: Sorry if this is a little hard to read, this was originally posted on a dark background.

Text color identification:
Blue: Original PSP-Hacks.com tuturial by p0Wer (http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about17935.html&p=1)
Black: Comments by me where I went into a little more detail

2.71 TA-082 HEN-D Downgrading Tutorial

Requirements:

·A TA-082 PSP with firmware 2.71 installed. To find out if you have a TA-082 PSP look at this:

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/3291/p0wer4ou1.jpg

·WinRar. Download it from here: www.rarlabs.com

·Download these:
Easy TA-082 2.71 Downgrader (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/983) (I never did use this file since the tutorial only needed the three files below (TA-082 Downgrader, 1.50 Eboot and 2.71 HEN-D))
TA-082 Downgrader (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/982)
1.50 EBOOT Update (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4)
2.71 HEN-D (Homebrew Enabler Rev. D) (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/922)

PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PSP CHARGER IN AT ALL TIMES

1. Before you start, reformat your memory stick and reset
your default settings.

2.Create a USB connection between your PSP and computer.

3. Copy the UPDATE and idstoragechange folders into /PSP/GAME/

4. Get the official Sony 1.50 eboot and put it in the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder with the name of UPDATE.PBP. (Before placing it in the folder, rename the EBOOT.PBP file to UPDATE.PBP so the original EBOOT.PBP does not get overwritten.)

5. Run HEN-D if you are not already running it.
(In order for me to find out how to run it, I had to go to HEN-A (Version A) as HEN-D did not have the instructions with it.
To run HEN-D >> Copy all contents inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick. Copying these files will overwrite the ‘PSP’ and ‘PHOTO’ folders on your PSP with new folders of the same name. Now you should notice the ‘HEND’ folder in the ‘PHOTO’ directory on your PSP. Go to the PHOTO viewer of the XMB (PSP Menu Bar) and enter in the folder ‘HEN’.)
(Hen-D is the distorted image in the Photo section on your psp)
screen will go blue then either Green or Red,
if screen green hen-D ran correctly and your psp should restart
if it goes red you need to turn off your psp and try again.
From the README.TXT on Dark Alex's HEN-A download:
Instructions
------------

- Copy all contents inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick.
- Go to the PHOTO viewer of the XMB and enter in the folder "HEN".
- If the psp freezes, reboot your psp and try again. Currently the tiff is very unstable and it
is only executed sometimes. I'll try to improve that in the future.

- The first time you run the program, you will see quickly a blue screen, and after that a screen that can be of two colors:
* Red: the files couldn't be written to the flash (it hapens a few times). Just keep trying.
* Green: The files were written succesfully. After that, the xmb will be rebooted. Now you can run the homebrew in format prepared for 2.71. (see details below).

- As mentioned before, the patch will remain resident in memory, and even entering sleep mode won't delete it. Only a hardware reset will remove the program from memory.

- When you do a hardware reset, you'll have to run the tiff again.
This time there won't be green or red screen, just a blue screen and xmb reboot, since
this time there is no need to write to the flash.

Note: the files pspbtknf.txt, pspbtknf_game.txt, pspbtknf_updater, and systemctrl.prx in the root
of the memory stick are only needed the first time the program is executed. After that you
can delete those. However, don't delete patch.bin, h.bin and the folder with the tiff, since
you will need those the next time you do a hard reset and want to run the program again.

Note2: Once the program is loaded, it is independant of the memory stick contents. So you can
freely swap memory sticks.

6. Execute the idstoragechange on the PSP. It needs 75% battery. It will change some keys of your idstorage needed to downgrade the TA-082 PSP.
(IDSTORAGE can be found in your games menu under memory stick)
(You will then be prompted to press X. After pressing X you will be taken back to the PSP menu (XMB).)

7. The program will exit to the XMB. Now run the generic downgrade, which will show in the XMB as “Update X.YX” on the PSP.
(Update X.YX is also found in the games menu under memory Stick)

8. The generic downgrader will also need 75% battery. IT will downgrade your PSP to 1.50.

9. At the end, it will ask you to press X to restart the PSP. Do it.

10. If all went fine, you’ll receive a blue screen telling you to press O. Do it, and re-enter your settings. Welcome to 1.50.
(The blue screen is basically telling you that all the setting are corrupt
and you need to re-enter them)
(After this my screen went blank for a while. My initial reactions: “AAHHH!”. If you had the same reaction as me, calm down and just wait a few seconds (about 20), Initial Setup will then pop up.
Congrats!

I now have a TA-082 running 1.5. Fatty77, yours was especially helpful as it appears as though you had the same questions and concerns I had. For others, if you following what they tell you, it works. I am a total noob with this thing and had no issue.

THanks again!

I have a white psp that I have just had brought for me as a gift. I used some info to find out the firmware and have come to conclusion that it is 2.60. I've read about the web and it is all rather confusing to a greenhorn like me. Can I use the above tutorial to downgrade my firmware to 1.50? Thanks in advance.

Johnty,

My understanding from what I've read is the most important thing to consider when downgrading is your motherboard. You need to identify that first, if you search for "identify TA-082" you should find something to help you find out if you have one of those motherboards.

What is above, is what I used for a TA-082 motherboard and it worked. But I am surely no authority. The guys here really seem to know their stuff, from what I have read, most of the bricks seem to come from someone not being careful and not following the instructions exactly.

Good luck,
