View Full Version : How to convert PS1 saved games to PSP
I was wondering if there was a way to change it, or convert it to ".dat" file.
i know there's another way (the CWCheat) way but i have no clue how to do that one. even reading the readmes got me confused (i installed it but i dont know how to open up the file while in the game, PSX game itself)
anyone?

load up your psx game and your game save.
Load up the Cwcheat menu while in game and scroll down to the
"Manage Memory Cards" option and hit the X button
Hit X again on the Save "Memory card 1 to memory stick" or If your save is on the other memory card slot, slot2, choose "Memory card 2 to memory stick"
You should see your Ms light flash a bit.
scroll to the exit option and hit x again then choose "return to game"
quite your game and back out to xmb.
put your psp in Usb mode and copy the file that was just made to some place on your pc, It will be located in your psp's x:\seplugins\cwcheat\mc\ folder and should look something like this slus_00776-0.mcr
Download this ps1 save converter
EDIT linke removed use psxgameedit check alkarl's post
open your save with it then hit the save button and in the "save as type" drop down list pick the format you want to save it as in this case Dexdrive.
To load your psx save back onto your psp it's the same process but backwards. and instead of picking the save to memory card stick option you'd pick the "Load from memory card option"

i've tried using cwcheat, but it is very confusing. i downloaded a PS1 game save from gamefaqs and it is in GME format. So i convert that to the MCR format. Then i drag that into the mc folder. When i go load it from cwcheat, nothing happens.

Doesn't sound like you renamed the mcr file by cwcheats standards.
The naming goes like this: Syyy_xxxxx-0.mcr
Substitute the letters for the product code for that game.
For example, save files for Xenogears would be called SLUS_00664-0.mcr, SLUS_00664-1.mcr, SLUS_00664-2.mcr and so on...
Also, its important that the code you use is the original code for that game, not the code you may have changed when converting the ISO into an EBOOT. CWCheat will show at the bottom what filename it's looking for if you don't know the code

To find the code load up Cwcheat while in the psx game. then look up at the top of the screen where it says Game ID and the code should be there. or you could look it up here

yes i did that, i renamed it correctly. by the way, the game i am using is gran turismo. when i load it, and go to simulation mode, by the looks of it, nothing happens?
EDIT: okay i got it to work. you load it, then you gotta load the game save ingame. i didn't know that.

Got it when you extract your psx saves to your pc using ulaunch you'll end up with a raw psx save file that has a messed up name like this "BASLUS-00594G05t6HWA" all you have to do now is extract the "PSX Raw Converter" here by Alkarl somewhere on your desktop then drag and drop your raw save file right ontop of the PSXRC.exe icon thats in the files extracted. You should now end up with a mcs file that can be opend with the PSXMemTool, just right click it and associate it with the psxmemtool. Once opend Take note of the product code shown. Now convert it to the mcr formate and with the name of the product code as shown here ex: code shown is SLUS-00594 so the file is renamed to slus_00594-0.mcr. and thats it your done that save should work in the Cwcheat when loaded with the appropriate Game.

All right I've got your euro version of the "shadow man" game save ready I hope it works because I'm all out of ideas. If this doesn't work the only other thing I can think of that can be wrong is if your psx eboot of shadow man was made with the US version of the Games iso, But I'm sure you made it with your own copy which should be the PAL version so this should work...Hum...Make sure that you load it up correctly and everything is in the right place. this file should be in the X:\seplugins\cwcheat\mc folder and the name of this file has to match with the name you see at the bottom when you load up the Manage memory cards menu in Cwcheat where is says
"Currently selected memory card file: sXXX_XXXXX-X.mcr"
If It dosen't the go back to usb mode and re-name the mcr file to match it exacly. Once you've chosen "Load Memory card 1 from memory sick" with the x button and the right file exit Cwcheat and load up your new save in the game and it should show up on memory card slot 1.

i didn't read exactly all the post but talking about "psxmemtool" bothered me.
because you have to know that "psxmemtool" got a nasty bug: it doesn't support saves with more than one block :(
i don't know if shadow man work with multiple block saves or not but anyway you should work with "psxgameedit" instead of psxmemtool.
http://moberg-dybdal.dk/psxge/psxge160.zip
as stated in the readme.txt psxrc must be utilized with psxge.
hope it will help:)
