How do I dump my PS1 CD's to my PC?

I hope this is not off-topic or otherwise incorrect to post here, but how is this done? Is this something I can do with Nero 6?

Anyone able to do this in Linux (specifically Ubuntu)? It won't detect that I have inserted any CD (retail or burn). Retail PC games work fine and are detected, but I can't even open Nautilus to browse the contents of the drive.
