View Full Version : Internal memory mod.

I was thinking of trying to add some internal memory to my gamecube by getting a used motherboard, desoldering the memcard ports and somehow figuring out a way to throw them into the cube and wire a switch for each port to switch between the internal ports and the external ones... the only problem is, I'm not completely sure on how to go about doing so. I was thinking that maybe if the internal ports were soldered at the same points as the external ones (excluding their power supplies) that it might work if the switches merely controlled which port is recieving power.
If anyone has any thoughts on this, please reply.

That sounds sweet. I think the idea with the different power sources would work that or get a 3 stage switch were the power would just goto the switch and then from there could goto the two sets of ports seperately so you would have a stage for both off or internal on external off, or internal off and external on. Also if you do this you need to put the big 1019 block memory card in both of the internal slots for maximum storage

Yeah, I plan to use the huge Nintendo ones. :D I'm not sure about the 3 stage, not to knock the idea or anything... it's all based on personal preference, but I see no use in it. I'm just glad I've got somebody else thinking about it though. I hope this idea gets enough input... then I'll probably start working on it within the next couple of weeks when I have the time, and when I get it working post a full tutorial.

one thing i wanna know is if you wire up 2 memorycards to the same port does it double capacity? Also i wouldnt advise desoldering the port for an internal memorycard.

What's wrong with that?

no, wire 2 togather and it will just give you corrupt data.
I would either use a 128m mem card (saw it at toys r us) or a SD card ( you can get a 128m for like $15 and you can just soldier to the card, no extra hard ware required) for internal mem (much bigger than 128m) card because nintendo's new one is only 8mb.....
i am tempted to replace my once of my memory ports with a a sd reader i have sitting here but when mario party 6 came out with the microphone memory card attachment i started to think agian about it in case future hardware like this. But im defintally making a internal sdcard reader as i have all the parts and ready to go.
did a little more research, the SD cards are only useable with a few games currentally and the 128mb card is basically 8x....
however i am looking at the USB memory card, compatible with all games...
If you are willing to put the time and effort into it, there is likely nothing stopping you from perhaps, adding an "internal" memory card to the system that could be toggled by a switch. Sounds like it'd be a ***** though really. Besides what's the advantage anyway?

There is no advantage... Duey if both memorycards were the same model and not never ever removed, then would it work?

The only advantage would be simply this: convenience.
