POSTING A REQUEST GUIDELINES:
----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Please please please check if something was already done for your game using the index (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=40802)
2. Be as accurate as possible with the name of the game you are looking for (es. "I want a Fifa pack" is too much generic...there are 10 editions of it!)
3. Start your post with REQUEST: so that they can be seen easyly (lot of them are lost in the posts); to do this just highlight the "REQUEST:" word, make it BOLD and choose "Blue" as color
4. Be patient! :D



POSTING A CUSTOM SET GUIDELINES:
----------------------------------------------------------------
0. Check if something was already done for that game using the index (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=40802)
1. Create a zip/rar archive containing ICON0.PNG, PIC1.PNG and (optionally) PIC0.png, ICON1.PMF and SND0.AT3
2. Name the archive like that: [NameOfTheGame]_[AuthorName].[EXT] without special characters (es. MetalGearSolid_NickName.zip)
3. Quote the request, if it comes from a request, removing the green word REQUEST:
4. Attach your archive (use the button "Manage Attachments")
5. (Optional) Save ICON0 and PIC1 as JPG and upload them as attachments as well (only for preview)



USING A CUSTOM PICS PACKAGE GUIDELINES:
----------------------------------------------------------------
First of all what are the files you may find in the packages:
- ICON0.PNG is the main icon when selecting the game. It is also used (and automatically copied) in the saved games management
- PIC1.PNG is the background picture when the icon of your game is selected
- PIC0.PNG (also known as UNKNOWN.PNG) is the white half-transparent rectangle with name and optional infos of the game.

- ICON1.PMF is the animated icon version
- SND0.AT3 is the music played when you select a game

To use theese files:
A. You can insert ICON0.PNG, PIC1.PNG and PIC0.PNG while creating EBOOT with popstation from command line (popstation.exe youriso.iso): just copy them in your popstation dir. If you don't find a PIC0.PNG in the package you can use a generic transparent one (see the index (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=40802))

B. You can use one of the popstation GUIs and insert the images when creating the EBOOT (Popcorn Popper (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=40555) or Simple Popstation GUI (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=40946)) allowing you to deal with savegames dir too ;)

C. Use Pspbrew (http://www.stefanorussello.it) (nice and easy to use EBOOT editor but you can't solve the save games problem with this)

Tip: once your savegame dir is created the file ICON0.PNG is copied in that dir automatically. Now you can manually copy a background (PIC1.PNG) in that dir to show a background even in the saved games management



CREATING CUSTOM IMAGES GUIDELINES:
----------------------------------------------------------------
- ICON0.PNG 144x80 pix PNG format (max size: ?? kb)
- PIC1.PNG 480x272 pix PNG format (max size: 250 kb)
- PIC0.PNG 310x180 pix PNG format (max size: ?? kb)

Suggested programs to create PNG with transparency are Photoshop (obviously...but is not free), the great GIMP! (http://www.gimp.org/) (Open Source) and its Photoshop look-alike version named GIMPSHOP (http://www.gimpshop.net/) (Open Source as well)

- ICON1.PMF 144x80 pix PMF format
PMF is a proprietary Sony format also used for animated background. Google for some guides and tools to convert to this format ;)

- SND0.AT3 ATRAC3 sound format 44khz (max size: 490 kb --> 50 sec. )
To convert in AT3 format any music converter/editor that supports codecs will go. Just google for a free Atrac3 codec pack (es. Cole2k or AV Codec pack)

Transparency vs Alpha channel: the first old-school version of transparency was seen more than 10 years ago with trasnparent gifs and is very easy: a dot can be set to visible or not visible.
PNG is the first (not proprietary) format that supports a more complex management of transparency: every dot can have an alpha channel with a value from 0 to 255 (i.e. a value of opacity from 0 to 100%)

The best way for creating semi transparent images is to use programs that support layers, change opacity of that layer as you wish, flattern the image and save as PNG

Quick downsize tip for PNG: if your PNG image is NOT using transparency you can convert it to an indexed format (i.e. GIF) and than convert back to PNG and save

Try re-save the pics using IrfanView/SlowView for example (google for the proggie)

ICON0.PNG - 144x80 24-bit PNG format
PIC1.PNG - 480x272 24-bit PNG format
PIC0.PNG or UNKNOWN.PNG - 310x180 8-bit PNG (This is a transparent image - MUST USE PHOTOSHOP to create/edit)

Then copy to the same folder same popstation

is there a specific size the pictures have to be eg something KB. mine comes out as 243KB i think thats a bit big, neway to make it smaller in IrfanView

I tried to replace the unknown.png inside the base.pbp and saw that popstation.exe fails and generates an error unless you use a file of exactly 2847 Bytes.
Quickly learned how to use Paint.NET and made a compatible one, I put it as attachment. It's rather funny, is transparent with pic1 but I didn't figure very well about transparent layers so if you put no pic1 the eboot title will not show.

Just to share my experience with the eboot pics,

I used PSPBREW V0.91 to extract the PIC1, ICON0 and UNKNOWN (you can leave the UNKNOWN.PNG blank and make it transparent if you want) pngs from Hots Shots 2, then I edited them the way I wanted and saved them as PNG (dont compress, just save em as is). Then I opened the created EBOOT (i.e. C&C) and then replaced the PICS and saved the EBOOT, took about 5 mins as the C&C file is over 700 Megs.

Worked fine.

Put pic1 and icon0 pngs in the same folder as your .img and when popstation is converting to eboot, it'll grab those files and combine it together.

Yeah, either someone is able to make a transparent unknown.png of 2847 Bytes (not me :p) or you can use a custom made (as the one I proposed 2 posts above hehe), less intrusive.

leave background layer blank for totaly transparent, or fill it with somme color or img and set opacity u want...
go to layers -> merge visible...
save as PIC0.PNG

Yeah I know, thats what I've been doing, but it's a pain in the ass to manage all of that plus run popstation from command line. It would be much easier to just have a GUI that let you point to the iso, select your icons & bg (or use default ones) and output them into a nice clean directory based on the PSX cd name (the SLUSXXXXX names).

Maybe I'm just lazy, but if there was an easier way to do it the artistic people might be more inclined to make cool icons / bg's.

yep i understand where your coming from i too lost my copy... an absolute gem of a game, never released in the UK but the second one made it here though.
Let's hope few mates of mine still has that copy, hope you have some luck as well?

Yeah I know, thats what I've been doing, but it's a pain in the ass to manage all of that plus run popstation from command line. It would be much easier to just have a GUI that let you point to the iso, select your icons & bg (or use default ones) and output them into a nice clean directory based on the PSX cd name (the SLUSXXXXX names).

Maybe I'm just lazy, but if there was an easier way to do it the artistic people might be more inclined to make cool icons / bg's.

- There is a white empty PIC0 to modify or a transparent PIC0

- I used pspbrew and no problem changing images/title

if ppl dont want at all the transparent image in their game, u can simply remove it just before they convert the .iso to .pbp..open Base.pbp (wich is the hot shot golfs 2's eboot renamed) with pspbrew (takes some time to open it, as its 143mb) When the .pbp is opened, select the unknow.png file from the advanced information-list files and press the blue button with the X on it just under the list...this will remove the image from the .pbp..after just save the modified pbp, and overwrite it with the old one. No each time u convert any psx games to eboot, the transparent image will be gone, only the pic1 and icon0 will be added to the eboot..i just tried with Metal Slug X and worked fine :D no more hot shots golf 2 info :p..and i have no patience to create a custom one with photoshop..lol

Mdf files are just basically ISO's, so if you set UltraISO to read all files when you choose to open one it should open it the same as any other, this is my theory. :)
