Well if your like me and own an xbox you prolly know that one of the nicest features of the xbox controller is that the cable is nice and long as well as designed to break apart when someone or something puts to much pressure on it. So I have an idea that maybe someone has already done here or could possibly help me with. I figured that to make the gamecube controller longer I could simply get a 6ft extension cable and then somehow make it breakaway like an xbox cable, Has this been done yet and or does anyone have any ideas how to go about doing such a thing?

well you could simply bend 1 or 2 of th elocking pins in the ports back, the controllers will come out much easier. as for a breakaway cable....youd have to finde a connect that would be good for that. all the stuff i have is designed to stay toghater.... you could also hackup the xbox ones for it....

Are the insides of an xbox cable the same as a gamecube cable so that I could just splice an xbox breakaway connector into a gamecube controller cable?

yes it wont work.. you can get any spring pin connection and use it.. doesnt have to be 7 pins it cold be 8,9 or 10, just dont wire up the others

i dunno where to get them but ive seen them in all kinds of devices like mobile phone data cables etc.. its just a spring pin which pushes against a connection with a spring to keep it stable..

http://www.yokowo.com/springpinconnectors/ googled up this.. what i was thinking of. spring connections..

Just got one today. Works great. Thanks for the link. Also the breakaway connector is the same as a ps2 port on a pc. Could you possibly hookup a keyboard or mouse and use them for some games?

They work really good! As for your question, it would probably be possible, but the game would need to support it.

maybe if you had the cube modded with viper you could get a bios that had support for it or something

A little off topic, but why not just get a Wavebird? I mean, it's missing the rumble feature...but it offers a lot more freedom.

the wavebird is great and all but i hate putting batteries in a controller......

its not as bad as wireless keyboards but its an added expense, currentally all my batteries go to my freakin camera....

and the gamecube takes a death grip onto the controller plug.....if you pluf 4 controllers in you couls swing the system around like a wepon by the controllers :D

i actually adjusted controller ports to relase them easier so if someone steps on the cabpe the system dosent fly off the stand....
