i belive its elwire....nice effect

i dont wanna ***** (god forbid) but I don't really like the neon tubes...they look really messy and a bit tacky. If they were installed a bit less randomly I might like them more but compared to all the blue LED's they will never be as nice :)
but what does my opinion matter, go for it :D

Yeah, the way they're incorperated looks a bit messy. I'd tack em with hot melt so they look orderly. And where can I get elwire. That still doesn't answer my question though, I also wanted to see how it was powered. Like which points were used.

02-19-2005, 05:59 PM
i think its a killer look....not everyhting has to be neat and orderly.....its one of the more orignal designs , im tired of seing nice neat elwire runs at the same place o nthe xbox cases.....its not that cool. but this is alot of lightign, unique design in a little space w/o obstruction airflow.....also much better than tossign a CCFL near the intake as that will just heat the air htat supposed to help cool the processor.....
also el wire is all over the net, hit up google/ebay/yahoo or http://www.elwirecheap.com/
there is a very universal power plug....since it needs 12v you can get it stright form the power suply w/o messing with the power of the system internals. Look on the fan assembly and you see 2 large soldier points ....thats is the best 12v you can get from the system as it supplies the power to the entire system.

Nice... Ill think about getting for my cube!
ROFLMyWaffle
02-19-2005, 06:08 PM
Once I get money, I think I'll order that insted of putting LED's all over. And if I buy like say 5 feet of elwire, does it just have a red and black wire coming off the end or how does it work? It's confusing to me.
Duey2k
02-19-2005, 06:17 PM
it will have a 12v inverter just like CCFLS so you will have to find space for it...i belive it will fit in the back but i would actuall build it inthe the underside of the case in one of the useless ports. Tonight im making the clear jewel tutorial with ccfl lighting so should be able to provide some pics for ya.
here is a ccfl...its basically the same size inverter for elwire, if you take the casing off youll sace a small amount of space...but also it does produce heat as well....
http://duey2k.com/shop/images/Kit-CCFL-Jewel.jpg
ROFLMyWaffle
02-19-2005, 06:31 PM
Well www.elwirecheap.com says it needs 12v, can't you technically attach it straight to the 12v on the back WITHOUT an inverter and it'll work the same?
Duey2k
02-19-2005, 07:09 PM
no...all products of this type require the inverter.....and its the inverter that takes 12v. The actual tubes/wire take something like 600v (depending on size/color/manufactor and whatnot) and very low amp...
ROFLMyWaffle
02-19-2005, 08:33 PM
Ok I see. So basically I buy the length I want, strip the end so the 2 wires wrapped around the copper core are showing, and attach those to the inverter. THEN, attach the inverter to the 12v on the power PCB. I get it. P.S: Nice icon.:D
ROFLMyWaffle
02-19-2005, 09:52 PM
ok. i got one more question. I hope to get these two questions answered. Ok, So say i buy the inverter w/ easy connector and 10 ft of el wire w/ easy connector, solder the inverter to the 12v, attach the wire. If I don't want the axcess, can I just cut it off or what?

Yeh, theres a solder point where the power supply hits the PCB, sinse the power is converted to 12v before it hits here anyway, its safe just to solder whatever you want on here! (LED wise, because the Power will always be on there, so your cube will stay lit up even after you switch it off, which is an advantage in most cases.. If you dont want it on, you can always install a switch to turn it on and off or just use the power from the Fan

02-20-2005, 10:35 AM
Cool, Thanks! I've been browsing through the selection at elwirecheap and may i recommend the mini 12v inverter. It's very bright and the block is only 3/4" x 3/4" x 1". I still have a question unanswered. Can I cut off extra I don't want?
Duey2k
02-20-2005, 03:21 PM
mu bad...it was lae when i wrote that...you can easily get teh 12v after the switch so the lights wont be on 24/7. Even wrote a small tutorial last night with pictures. check it out at www.info.duey2kmods.com

duey, also meantion the 2 from the main power for a perminent lighting even when the cube is off.. because some people might want the light on even when their cube is off, like a PC...

I dont really like the elwire "messy" look either. I think i would have just put a couple of like 6" greeen cold cathods inside to light it up. Also the dremel skills could use some perfecting and some cleanup on the edges from the full DVD mod would make it look alot better under the lid. However I do like the skin
EDIT: Also nukleuzdj i love the pics was just wondering how you got hooked up the LEDs in the memory card and made the lights above the controller ports look so good

Im doing a window, well not exactly a wndow, im using 5mm frosted plexi so u cant see inside, but the light will light it up.. i brought a sand blaster kit to frost the glass, the gas u get with it is way too weak, i need a compressor to get it to work right..

aww :( Oh well, I also was wondering what u put around your window to conseal any mistakes? is it t-molding or what? I also just watched the vids and had some questions. The lights are flickering when u turn on ur cube, are you using that much power, also, is the controller led supposed to light up when its supposed to rumble? If so, nice.
saittam_j
03-15-2005, 06:44 PM
well the light have 8 different settings so that flickering was just one of the 8 settings.i am to lazy to film all of the settings.:o
[[ is the controller led supposed to light up when its supposed to rumble? ]]
Yes it's supposed to light up when it rumbles.
[[ I also was wondering what u put around your window to conseal any mistakes? ]]
well the window and the stuff i put around it was made from the bottom of a plastick cookie jar i just painted it silver.

I love the controller mod. I take it you just placed an LED or 2 around the c stick and then wired them into the rumble motor, however im currious to know if you had to modify the c stick in any way to allow the light to show thru.
Duey2k
03-17-2005, 06:08 AM
i thought you were using alinuming tape around the edges....
and i assume no hacking or cutting was needed to light up the c as the material allows for some light to pass through and its open on the inside.
nice mod, ive been trying to come up with somehting for the controller, painitng just makes it look to boaring...it needs some leds and some kinda jewel.
saittam_j
03-17-2005, 02:02 PM
well i wired them into the rumble motor.
and then i was gonna drill a hole for the led but i got to tired to do that so i shoved it up the c stick:eek: :D

Are there LED's behind the controller # holes that you have or can they be lit up by doing the LED mod where the controller port is lit up?
Thanks
