Hi, first of all excuse my english, I am from Spain but this is the only forum I´ve found about mechanics on the PSP. Yesterday while playing PE6 I broke the analog, I was using one of this "mushroms" they sell for the analog so I must have put to much pressure on it. when it broke it kept moving the players downwards, what I suppssed was normal. My PSP was under warranty but rather than sending it to Sony an getting 1 with 2.81 firm I decided to change it my self. I removed the analog to keep playing with the d-pad until I recive the new analog but even with the analog sick removed( I have taken it out) players keep moving down. It is due for the analog for sure because I disable it in the control menu I does not do it. Will the problem disapair when If I replace the analog ? does the analog need to be calibrated like happened with PS2 analog sticks? will I need to reinstall the firm 1.50? any help will be appreciated
Thanks

it almost sounds as though the analog needs to be calibrated..

something like this happened way back in the N64 days to me..
or f you pulled the controller out while moving in some games you'd continue to move..

you may have to get the game running with the analog loosely connected, so you are able to move it enough to make your character stop moving in the game, then pause, or exit the game and shut off the psp and put the analog stick back in securely

maybe that will work =/ not too sure, but it seems to be uncalibrated

i think you forgot to put the small plastic back above the gold contact on the psp motherboard

You can get one of these..
http://secure.llamma.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=580

This should fix it..
DON’T use the aftermarket thumb pads they always break PSP thumbsticks..

I have the same in game behavior plus in the home menu screen d-pad and buttons are still working for the game in the background so I can't exit out of games with home. I do have the rubber in there still, I guess I'll keep tinkering with it to see what happens. It's either going to start working properly or it's going to become a brick...... hope it's the first one :D

Mine is doing the same thing with the characters moving south. I too was using a third party joystick, is this a bad idea? I haven't opened it for any reason, could it be possible that it was just abused and now it is behaving this way? I will say that I let my girlfriends nephew play with it and then abruptly he didn't want to play anymore.....hmmmmm....i wonder why. Damn.

Well my problem is fixed after taking it apart and putting it back together a few times. I don't think that my problem and the one you guys are experiencing are the same though, I think mines was related to the pressure on the screws. I think I put them on too tightly before. In any case if anyone wants to order the replacement assembly I'll post a link to the least expensive - trustworthy one I found.

I was told by sony that I could get a refurb'd (whoopdedoo) psp for $89 on the condition that I send my broken one in. Therefore if I do decide to dismantle my PSP to attemtp to fix this problem and it doesn't work I will be forced to Purchase at retail eventually. So I have to hang my head low and just send it in. BTW this will be my third PSP from Sony. :(

Dude keep your psp away from the younger kids, they'll last much longer like that. Well hope you get a at least a TA-82, though I imagine those bastards are going to send you a psp with firmware 9.99 with a TA-99 mobo, at least they'll try. Anywho best of luck then.

Man at this point , I'm through screwing around with the PSP and hacks etc. I had a homebrew at first and every game that I wanted to play with my Gamefly account wouldn't play because it wanted the newest update installed on the PSP which would disable any funny business. I do need to know though , is it true that the third party joysticks are bad news for the PSP? I really enjoyed Madden with the third party joystick. The first refurb that they sent me had many bad pixels.

What's the big deal about those different versions that you mentioned in your response to my post? What will that enable me to do if I read enough about the possible mods and I change my mind? :D

OOOh my friend your psps motherboard determines just how easy it will be to play around with homebrew on your psp. Granted the psp has/is getting many great games and at the moment I would love it with or without homebrew, a psp without homebrew is really half the machine.

Anyways one of the numbers are firmware which I know you must be aware of, and the other is your motherboard model# TA-79 are the first and easiest to run homebrew on, TA-82 - and TA-86 are the later models, you can run homebrew on these, but it's a tad more or a chore. Do some reading on the forums in the newbie section that should answer a lot of your questions better then I can :)

As far as the analog sticks I don't know, personally I don't use 'em, I can deal with the psps analog nub for now. Eventually the only thing I would like to do is put a patch of some anti-slip material, rubber or something since sometimes the damn nub will slip off.

Anyways check out some threads for more info on your psps motherboard, the most informative are usually stickied on top so you'll find them pretty quickly.

Hi, Thankx to all for your help. The thing is, when I did put the new analog It worked ok. It only moved down because I had removed the broken analog. The plastic bit was in it place but I can not still figure why It moved down without the analog in its place.
Thanks again

when im playing smackdown vs raw 07. and im creating a moveset the ring keeps spinning around and when im playing a match and i move right or down it works perfectly (u use the dpad for moving the player and the analog stick is used for taunting) any way when im in the match i go over to my oppent, i press left and the dpad and it does a taunt? same for down on the dpad. when im in the web browser i can move right and down fine. but when i move up or left it goes super slow. please help me because my dad is going to force me to buy a refurbed psp. and if u do have a answer please tell me.

I have the same problem of a stuck analogue stick and it kinda feels funny, almost as if there's no more spring, and it faces resistance moving around the up down axis. It gets stuck in the "down" position most of hte time, although recently it is starting to get stuck "up" as well.

I used to jiggle it a bit and it gets unstuck, but recently, it is getting worse, easier to get stuck, and harder to get unstuck.

I've seen some tutorial videos online about the disassembly of the stick - would this help? I note that the author said that the stick must be parallel to the top when putting it back.

This appears to be my problem, as I notice that my stuck problem usually occurs when the stick is rotated such that it is no longer parallel (in the heat of gaming for example).

Sometimes, jiggling it and rotating it at the same time fixes the problem - although this is becoming more and more difficult nowadays.

Can this be solved without opening the unit? Do I need to buy a new analogue stick (and where from?).

If you haven't opened your psp before then you'll probably need to buy a new one (Analog Assembly), and seeing as you seem to want a solution that doesn't need to open the unit I'm guessing you haven't opened it up.

You can get the assembly from the store that's posted before your post, just in case your lazy http://store.richspsxparts.com/pspanstasre.html
Try to do some more reading on the subject as I'm not too well versed in it, I fixed my problems, but mine were caused by bad assembly of the psp.

As I said, Once I put the new analog in its place the PSP was OK. When I removed the analog It was allways going downwards. so best thing is to put the analog, even if it is broken, you can just put it to center position with the help of a neddle.

Well as I posted in this and other threads after all was said and done my problem was how tight/loose the screws were on the psp. I had sticking shoulder buttons, sticking home button, and the erratic analog, and I would fix one problem only to have another arise. By coincidence I tried operating the psp without any screws and noticed it worked like crap, so I then started to tighten/loosen screws in order until I got it working well.

After I did this my psp has never had any control problems again. Good luck.

WOW this is going to be the latest reply ever, but I meant the 4 case screws. I actually don't have that bottom screw that secures the front part of the face plate.... yeah I lost it :p
