View Full Version : Gamers Angry at Amazon $100 Xbox 360 Deal
Masses of gamers have expressed discontent with the way in which the Amazon $100 Xbox 360 special deal was handled. Cries seem to indicate a belief that Amazon should've managed to handle the server load better. Never mind guys, just add up a few more hundred dollars and buy one from the store.
They should have devised a spaced out way of selling the systems so to prevent themselves from suffering from overload. Perhaps over 10 hours, each hour 100 of the consoles are offered and only 1 per customer. Or, even better, have all Amazon users simply put their account into a lottery where 1,000 are picked randomly, 1 day to enter your name and then no overload traffic. Instead, depending on where you live, your ISP and traffic determined who won today, which is not random nor fair.

Basically they had 1000 Core Xbox 360's for $100. They went on sale at 11 A.M. PST. I was actually trying to get one myself. I made it to the point of doing the math problem, just to verify it wasn't an automatic buying program, and it took 5 minutes to load and I got an error screen. Tried refresh, and then 5 minutes later I got they were all gone. I wasn't really mad about it myself, because I knew it was VERY unlikely that I was going to get one with 20,000 + people AT LEAST trying to get the same deal. I agree it could have been handled better, but what can you do? The demand was extremely high, and people just need to get over it. It's the same thing as 100 tv's being on sale at 6 AM tomorrow at some store. There could be a lot of people there and if the aisle is clogged you arent going to get there. People just need to get over it.

Well I think the post about the page not showing up for anyone is wrong because two people that have already posted on this board have said they made it to different points in the deal. I will admit that Amazon should have been more prepared for the issues, but I know people got the deal because one of my friends that lives about an hour away from me got one of the 360s. So I know it wasn't some sort of scam on Amazon's part, it was just a huge demand that caused some problems for their servers.

The Xbox sold out in 29 seconds!!!! WOW!
"There were a few glitches here and there, minor problems," Rushlo said.
He said Amazon.com's troubles were relatively small.
The site was disrupted for about 15 minutes, starting at about 2 p.m. EST Thursday, as the retailer was offering the Xbox 360 to the first 1,000 customers for $100, $200 below the regular retail price.
"We saw dramatically more traffic than what we anticipated," Amazon.com spokesman Craig Berman said Friday.
The Xbox sold out in 29 seconds, Berman said. Amazon also sold out of discounted Mongoose mountain bikes, Barbie dolls and Amazon Prime memberships with $100 gift certificates in about 15 minutes.

They saw "dramatically more traffic than anticipated"? That's a load of crap, they knew it would happen, they just didn't care. For those of us who tried, like me, it was unfair that we got booted from the server, or never even got to the sale page in time...
They pissed off a lot of customers...

I tried as well with no luck. 29 seconds is incredibly fast but this deal selling out quickly was no surprise. We all were waiting online right before 2pm PST because we knew it would sell out quickly. To me, it's just like the PS3 online orders. I tried my luck at Costco.com and was also unsuccessful. That server overload ended up crashing the Costco site for nearly 2 days!
The "more than anticipated" is strange because they should have known after the PS3 launch that such a good deal would be a big hit.
MicroCenter had the XBOX 360 core for $199 after rebate on BF. I didn't wait in line for that one though since I was in line at Best Buy.

The page stopped loading 2 minutes before the deal and didn't reload for me till 10 minutes after. If it's true that people got through using the sites IP or HTTPS instead of HTTP, then it's definatly bullsh*t. Why should some people have an unfair advantage because they knew of other ways onto the site that 99% didn't.

Where are you located at? I'm in central Indiana and it loaded fine for me up until the math question part.
