The December issue of EGM really does its finest to tick off gamers, with a NINE PAGE advertising spree in the run up to their feature on Halo 3.

Looks like something was very exclusive and cost alot alot of money to publish...
But that is kind of common problem. Remember another game magazine which I did bought many years untill I get bored to read it[Super Play] and it had same problem when they had something really REALLY interesting to show us readers. Like an..exclusive behind the scene look on Ratchet and Crank or another interview with Shigeru Miyamoto when he talks about his childhood (you know, when he explored caves, like Link?)

Gamefan - was my all-time fav video game mag (the quality of the book/pages itself was just awesome)

Yeah but you're forgetting people also pay for these magazines....they're not free.

Some foreshadowing of the future of games as well? Make sure you watch all 7 ads before the game starts.

This is a problem? Ads are half of why I read gaming magazines. I like to find out about what's new / upcoming, and I don't really need every bit of information I read to be 100% objective.

It's becoming a very big problem especially since anybody with a computer can just goto a site like maxconsole and read all this gameing news before it's even published in these magazines.

I agree i was being a little sarcastic... I know the people that buy these magazines do in part pay for the adverts, but notice that there is a small crowd of people that buy these magazines as opposed to the other magazines. Furthermore on a subscription basis you pay 1/5 or 1/6 of retail price. They are a business and they do need some money from these adverts I guess that's what i'm trying to say. Furthermore those adverts were for other games, so it's not so much an advert for something that is out of the blue...

Just trying to defend them I guess, it's much easier to ignore these ads so it's nothing I'd make a video of or anything ;)

Nope, mags still have some better stuff then websites.

Your never going to see a video of some stupid guy's getting Wii's from a ice cream truck in a mag, And they are only stupid because they have Wii's and i don't, Yet.

They might not be free but over 80% of the cost of publishing a mag comes from ads. How do you think subscriptions can be 90% cheaper than buying single issues?

What you pay for a magazine is mostly the shipping and handling aspect of it all. Remember that magazine you paid $4.99 for only cost that store about $2.49 - $2.99. Before that a distributor bought it from someone, most likely the publisher. What do you think they paid for it?? Prolly around $1.00 - $2.00.

That would be a great magazine if it had video capabilities. :D

On the serious side why wouldn't you. Magazine do come with a CD/DVD nowadays.

Are you kidding me? Have you read last month's OPM with the Oblivion cover?
I counted no less than 12 pages worth of ads before I even got to the index! My jaw literally dropped. I've never seen something quite like that in all my years reading OXM and EGM, and this being one of the few OPMs that I have ever picked up, I was pretty upset. I understand that there are a ton of costs involved in having a gaming magazine written and published but really? The first 12 pages? And after that almost every other page was an ad! So I say leave EGM alone and go after the bastards at OPM for holding the record of the most ads anyone has ever seen in a single gaming magazine... which being one of the most expensive (10 USD) should have the fewest ads!

It's dissapointing how many gaming magazines are (while charging the same or increasing prices) filling their pages w/ more & more ads...

I myself like Hardcore Gamer magazine, as they even include a section rating a few import titles, and whether they're worth importing... They keep the ads to a decent, non-obtrusive amount, certainly not page after page after page...
