Microsoft declares War in £14m marketing blitz UK

Microsoft are going full steam ahead and will fully captitalize on Sony's European delay of the PS3 launch by going on a £14 million media blitz across UK (Europe too?). The Xbox marketing bosss said its probably double than what they've spent in previous years at Christmas, but with Sony not showing and Nintendo having 'limited stock', it should be well worth it :). Most of the ad spend is going on TV exposure.


“It’s probably well in excess of double what we’ve typically spent on a Christmas,” Xbox marketing boss Stephen McGill told MCV. “With Sony not being here and Nintendo coming in with limited stock the opportunity for us is pretty significant. Most of the £14 million will be spent on getting consistent TV airtime.”

And as Xbox 360 approaches its first birthday, Microsoft is targeting the platform’s range of product as the key differentiator.

“Our whole thing is about choice. We’ve got two different versions of the console, and a huge choice of games. It's also about how much you want to engage with it - if you want to get online or play Live Arcade games, gamers can go for it. It’s up to them.”

I think this is a good thing and smart move from Microsoft. Hopefully this will knock out the complacency Sony has with respect to the EU and Aus regions (always considered part of EU WRT release schedules).

sounds like a good plan for them, but as i have seen the british 360 ads so far i have one advice before doing so: please please please fire the guys that did this commercials and hire someone who actually KNOWS how to do it. If these are available on youtube, please everyone look at that crap. nobody ever can relay to that! just spent some money for commercials if you want anbody to care at all. sorry for taking sony for a comparison, but they hired david lynch for their ps2 commercial long time ago. david lynch, for christs sake!
