View Full Version : PS2 Continues to Outsell Xbox 360 in North America

The latest NPD figures that the PS2 continued to out sell the Xbox 360 during October, racking up 235,000 units sold in comparison to the 360's 220,000.


In terms of hardware numbers, the Nintendo DS dominated, thanks to continuing demand for its DS Lite redesign and the success of its casual game titles, selling 360,000 for the month.

The PlayStation 2 came in at around 235,000, with the Xbox 360 slightly disappointingly selling just under 220,000 units, the Game Boy Advance just under 170,000, and the PSP a marginally lackluster 130,000, almost a third the tally of the DS.

I wonder for how long the ps2 will also outsell the the ps3? With so many new games on the ps2 we have had past few weeks, well not that it's so many of them but there are a few really good games, Tales of the Abyss, FFXII, Socom, that Phantasy Star looks good as well, by the time I'm done playing all these games there will probably be ps3s in stock at my local stores :D I think this will work out just right for me.
Back on topic though, I see the 360 is getting a lot of good press lately and it appears that the "bang for your buck" factor is pretty good, and now with gears of wars out I don't think the ps2 is going to keep this up for 2 more months. Well this wont matter in a few days when the wii and the ps3 launch and the next race officially starts, this is about to get interesting :D

This makes me wonder...people state that "If someone wanted a 360, they would have it by now" know what they're talking about. If anyone wanted a PS2, they sure as hell would have had it by now. So which brings me to 2 possibilities, someone's messing with the numbers or they're somehow going around the figures or those people quoting that line have no clue what they're talking about.

if the numbers are correct then the reason i see that the ps2 is still out selling the 360 in my opinion is that the 360 does not have any out standing games. gow does not spark much of an interest for me it looks like any other fps. the only reason i bought a 360 is for halo 3.

I'd bet money that the 360 will beat the PS2 in November...garanteed.

Because thats when people will make their decisions...360/Wii/PS3.
PS3's will be impossible to get...Wii's will be a hard find...and 360's are on the shelves with rows of games.

well the ps2 is CHEAP now and has a huge library of games. I didnt buy a xbox, ps2 of GC till a yr and half went by. mainly i wanted more titles to be released.

All the hot games for x360 are coming next yr... ps3 too. PS3 and Wii laucnhes titles are not impressing me.

PS2 is $100, Xbox 360 is $400. Of course the PS2 is outselling it, poor people need gaming too.

I'm pretty sure if the PS2 and Xbox 360 were the same price the 360 would sell more.

Great games on the 360 too, GRAW, GOW, Dead Rising, DOA4, COD2, COD3, etc... not to mention the many AWESOME Live Arcade titles.

Why does no one talk about the fact that the Gameboy Advance is outselling the PSP? I think its very similar to the xbox 360 vs. PS2...

I have to agree with you. If the 360 were the price of the Wii these people would be buying it. This is the huge market that Nintendo is going for. If this trend is right the general public isn't prepared to spend 299.00, 399.00 for the 360. Naturally they will not spend 499.00 or 599.00 for the PS3. If this is true Sony is in for a big surprise. It's just a theory and I'm not claiming this will actually happen.

Hmm judging by this screen it seems that the 360 is beating out all of them in terms of searches on Google. Following is the PS3 (query for playstation 3 yielded lower results) then the Wii comes in way behind because it came way after the other two. So, I think the Wii is doing better than the PS3 and 360 looking at the graph. Very very interesting. Notice there is no spike when there is a PS3 world launch announced.

Well...the reason it doesn't look good to you, is because you don't know a damn thing about it. rofl. Gears of War is a Third Person Shooter/Squad Based Shooter, not an FPS.

LOL I didn't know GW was a third person shooter either, I actually assumed it was another FPS :D well it's good to hear, there's too many FPS out as it is.

Haha the funny thing about Nimbus is that his mommy and daddy probably wont buy him a PS3. He wasted all of his allowance buying butt plugs and gay porn from EBay . He tries to save his milk money at school but a group of girls like to beat the **** out of him and take it every day. Oh well, it's life for the poor bastard. PS2 has everything in terms of games, its games have a huge audience, especially the family games like SingStar, Buzz and many other hits which have hit the PS2. Hence I dont have SingStar but considered Buzz though.

I'm really starting to like the XBOX 360 though, only with its XBOX LIVE Arcade, Lumines Live! is a game I really like, I played the PSP version none stop and the library in Arcade keeps growing so its really good.

I've seen the PSone games which are available to download for 2,000 YEN on PS3, Jumping Flash is one of the interesting ones ive found on there and there was Tekken 2, I couldnt remember the rest but there was about 10 games available to play.

Microsoft are learning from their mistakes and experiences with the Original XBOX and I think they are really making themselves good competitors within the Gaming Market.
