View Full Version : Microsoft takes a stand against Achievement Cheating
MS has reportedly included a feature to cut out achievement cheating on the 360. The 'hybrid locking system' included in the latest dash update is said to make some of the common cheating tactics useless.
Microsoft is well aware that such cheating devalues the Achievement system. It has become such a problem that they are now actively trying to stop this from happening. The fall Dashboard introduces a hybrid locking system which renders most of these cheating tactics useless. Only some of the 'unlocked' style game saves currently work and to guarantee they work, they need to be re-done on an updated Xbox360 and then re-uploaded to a game sharing site.

Um...what's Datel think of this? They have that tool out to use other people's saved games, if you do that, then this may screw up the saves since they obviously include achievments in the saves.

I don't know about 360 games but xbox1 save games still move over fine, just did it myself but I don't understand why anyone would want to hack their achievements. Does it make them cooler or give them a bigger wang? Nope, so insane amount of achievements won't help anyone who thinks achievements are important.

Who knows, maybe they'll give XBL Creds at the end of the year if you have a certain amount of Achievments or something. Which would be cool, like how if you sell a certain amount of candy bars when you're in the 1'st grade.

I really don't get the fecking point indeed.
Yes I play for achievements myself as well. At least the fun and obtainable ones (unlike for instance 90% of the Fifa 07 achievements) like game finish achievements and progress achievements. They are an incentive to keep playing just a tad longer to get the 10k zombies achievement ;).
But wtf is the use of cheating to get achievements? I don't get the point of finishing a game with a cheat, because its fun to play a game and finish it, especially hard ones, on your own merit. Let alone let someone else finish the game, and then you show it on your gamescore as something you've accomplished. I mean wtf?
All it accomplishes is that anyone with more then 20k in gamerpoints is suspect of cheating with achievements and assumed a loser by proxy.

I don't even use xbox live as it is of little interest to me. I like playing with my friends in the same room and not half way across the world. As far as the achievements go I just play the game because I like it and I don't really care about showing off my score of the fact that I found all the hidden items or whatever gives you the points that aren't good for anything except for bragging about.

There's a guy on my friend list with a score 70,475. His history shows he played around 60 games and beat most of them.
