View Full Version : EA Charges $50 for complete locked NFS: Carbon Content
A rather annoyed member of Neogaf has let fly on EA's premium content for NFS: Carbon which could set gamers back as much as FIFTY DOLLARS should thwy wish to gain it all.
Guess what: if you bought Need for Speed: Carbon today, you already have premium content waiting for you on Xbox Live Marketplace! Not only is there day one content available, but it's still on the disc waiting to be unlocked. But that's not all. You want to own all of this wonderful content that's already sitting on the very game disc you purchased? It's going to cost you an additional $50 in microtransactions. That's right, fifty ****ing dollars to UNLOCK game data.
Heres a list of the parts and items you can 'download' on Marketplace:
The Collectors Edition Upgrade - 800 Points
Performance Drivetrain Bundle - 400 Points
Performance Engine Boost Bundle - 400 Points
Performance Handling Bundle - 400 Points
Ultimate Performance Bundle - 800 Points
Muscle Car Autosculpt Body Kit - 300 Points
Autosculpt Tuner Body Kit - 300 Points
Autosculpt Exotic Body Kit - 300 Points
1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 - 80 Points
2004 Lamborghini Murcielago - 80 Points
2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10 - 80 Points

more than agree. no wonder no ones GAF now as that must make the game $120+ for content that would have been free back in the day. and to top it off the content is available now, the game only comes out in the uk tomorrow. how come the content couldnt make it to the disc if it can be on live in the first place. its like they leave out content to charge you extra for. BOYCOTT conent, sod that just dont buy the bloody games in the first place, and they think piracy is bad, i think paying excess for content is.

I'm all for jumping on the "EA sucks" bandwagon, but most of that is unlockable apparantly. Only the Collecters edition upgrade isn't I think.

Apparently charging full price for this piece of **** game (that obviously was developed for XBOX1!) is not enough. Gratz EA you reached the lowest of low yet it can only be worse from here on, you ruined the last game series of yours that i was somehow interested in, seriously EA, **** YOU.

I think itd be ok to have this as an option to buy but also allow people to unlock as they play throughout the game.

I find it ironic that one of EA's sports slogans is "EA... It's in the game", when clearly, a ton of the content, adding up to almost the game's retail value, is clearly *not* "in the game"...
Welcome, folks, to the hideous true face of microtransactions, handled by a company like EA...
Microtransactions *could* be a way to extend the long life & replay value of a game, offering levels or characters developed after the game's been out for awhile, but to release *all* this additional content at release time just smacks of the greed driving Microtransactions, the greed of "Let's make them pay for things we can hold back & just not put in the game..."

I have it on the PSP and plan on getting it on the PS2 later. Granted it may not look as good on the PS2 or PSP as the xbox360 but at least I don't have to spend an extra $50 on stuff. All the stuff mentioned above is already on the PSP version I'm using the Lamborghini Murcielago now. It would have been nice if they added some vinyls or new cars that weren't already in the game. But to charge for stuff that the other systems already have for free is just wrong.

i second that. but what are you gonna do? XBL give publishers a simple way to cash in. id accept that if the xbox360 version were less than the usual 60 USD, but it isnt. ALSO the cutscenes are MUCH MUCH worse than the ones on the psp version!
i HOPE that this cashing in will eventually destroy xbox live. its just wrong.
I personally have always said if you play a pirated game buy it to support the company (unless the game sucks lol) but now companies are doing this i say why should people who have always paid for their games support them if they are just gunna sH!t on us like this.

lol, every other post is a complaint about that. the actual notes on the purchase state they are unlockable but you can buy it to use it immediately. i personally bought the performance and the 3 cars. now when i tune it doesn't cost any money in game. i had nos before it was "unlocked".
i partially agree with the purchasing but your buying convenience really, not actual pre-installed content you will never get.
the ONLY one is the collectors edition purchase. but your also paying for the extra disk.

The funny thing is it doesnt look much better than last gen version, like when you play the same game on a slow pc and then on a high end one: higher resolution, a little better textures, anti-aliasing but nothing spectacular. I downloaded the demo for my 360 and I was like WTF is this ****??? After Most Wanted on 360 it looks horrible. Carbon was probably planned right after NFSU2 and was almost finished but they decided to do something different than the same night street racing from Underground and released Most Wanted instead and it was really next gen, but now they though hey ppl want need NFS game lets release this crap we had lieing around.

EA games are not even worth pirating now...

The most annoying thing about this content is that you can't play against somebody that has it downloaded. They can charge all they want because there is always going to be a willing buyer. What they need to do is allow a person who doesn't want to buy the content to play against somebody that has. It can even help them. If you're playing and you see a car or race on a track that you like then you might want to buy it. Hello! Free advertising for their content. In any case that's the only thing that angers me about online content.
BTW this game really blows!

Yes your right you can just unlock it... and I don’t see why people just don’t do that after spending £50 on a game you would think people would want to get your moneys worth without paying real money so you don’t have to waste virtual money in the game. You say “I had nos before it was "unlocked".” Its not that hard to unlock NOS I did a few races and got it too… I’ve spent 2hours playing and I’m already 26% of the game done without spending any cash on xbox live. No offence is ment by this but your living proof of why companies like EA can charge for stuff like this and get away with it… the simple fact is people will buy it.

absolutely none taken my friend, i agree. i wanted a convenience and i got it. i don't want to flash my 360 and later use trainers like i do with my xbox cause i want to stay on live. the problem with EA though is they are strong arming people into the content. ironic i used nos because they give a infinite nos code out and yes it's like the 1st if not one of depending on the race you chose. i have the money, most players probably don't though after the $60 price tag and they know that. and quite honestly i was too lazy too sit there through so many races to unlock the pro and race packages. there are games all over the board that you can "buy" the content but most are not already IN the game. (see: chromehounds) EA has decided to "allow" us to purchase the content in the game at a rediculous price which is really just greedy.(yes i know, i got some of it hehe) BUT i stand by my original statement and say it's pure choice onthe users end.
lol seems i'm pretty on the fence on this one after reading that back.
