View Full Version : LOL: Sony say if you want 1080P, get a PS3
A Sony TV owner who had problems getting his 360 playing back in 1080P called up Sony for some advice on the matter, they told him that if he wants 1080P gaming then he'd be best off purchasing a PS3 when the chance comes around.
I just talked to sony and they said "You can only get your 1080P display through an HDMI and if you want gaming in 1080P you should buy a PS3 when you get a chance".

Haha...Gotta love Sony's customer service. Instead of helping, they screw the guy over. Oh well! His fault.

Something tells me that the Sony rep didn't have the full training on the intricacies of the 360 dashboard update, and suggesting purchasing decisions out of such ignorance leaves me wondering how much checking they did to make sure that the Sony product was set up properly, and wasn't defective itself. Of course, Sony products never break down. The misaligned laser alignments in the PS1s, disk read errors in the PS2, square button difficulties with the launch PSPs, and everything else must be due to mishandling.
Besides, Resistance will likely look great at its maximum resolution of 720p, just like Gears of War will.

This is actually good news. Since only 15 percent of the population will receive this answer!;)

Could try a VGA to DVI adapter then a DVI to HDMI cable. Not sure if it would work since I don't have a 1080p set, but I do know that is how I got my Dreamcast to work in 480p on my TV. I used a $3 VGA to DVI connector and a $10 DVI to HDMI cable. I bought them at www.monoprice.com. This should work since the VGA cable can output 1080p and the HDMI port can accept it. The VGA cable doesn't know an adapter even exists.
What do you think?

Any decent TV will be able to display 1080p through VGA/DVI before long..

The console can, it's just the tv that can't handle it through vga ;)

a sony tv customer support rep should have no response of a gaming console selection. his job is to troubleshoot and solve the problem at hand not to advertise for an upcoming product. this is either utter bs or sony better get there techs in line because if i buy a sony tv and a panasonic stereo optical connection i dont want to hear them say buy a sony stereo to get the sound situation fixed

looking at the manual for sony's 60 and 70" xbr2 sets (both 1080p) this info came up on page 77
This TV's PC input does not support Sync on Green or Composite Sync
also on page 19, the rear image of the tv shows this over the composite inputs:
1080i/720p/4809/480i
also, on page 24 :
HDMI connection is necessary to view 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p formats
so if the 360 uses sync-on-green or composite sync, then sony's users are screwed, as vga is the only way to get 1080p on those tv's, but since they don't have the needed features for 1080p vga on the 360, then they are screwed.
