Stil no divx support :(

And it never will natively, nor will the ps3, wii, ipod, zune, zen, or any other device sold commercially in america. The day a device comes out thats sold in america that supports divx/xvid is the day the mpaa comes down with the hammer of god and starts suing. Whether the mpaa would win is unknown, but you bet your ass they will sue.

Tons of DVD players support divx/xvid out of the box already... I still can't see MS supporting it however. Imagine they are still pissed about it, since it was originally hacked from their code...

yeah i bought 2 dvd players from argos in the uk and there both xvid and divx as well as the other formats mp4 etc and there only 30 pounds a pop

It really would be nice of M$ if this FW update is just like the 6-6-06 update with no FW banning.

I know i for one will be all over the forum's tonight after the update and i do hope some brave soul will try it out for us all.

oh well as long as they ONLY block you off of live and NOT change the firmware or revert it to the original i am fine with it. who needs a dashboard firmware anyways. HOWEVER if they start doing a sony and start putting forced firmware updates or something on their dvds then i am going to be ONE PISSED cookie.

relax people the new firmeware will not ban from live,as the drive being hacked is not the actual console being hacked so m$ wont do anything at the min as soon as unsign code is run then i think they will stop it but anyhows how would they be able to read your drive details and so forth.

I thought that DIVX was one of the codecs which would supposedly be supported by the PS3 out of the box. My memory isn't that great, but I thought that was right.

That is really sad for you guys. I picked up a sweet unit the other month from my local retailer. Combo VCR/DVD with divx/mp4 support for less than $150 and it plays anything ive thrown at it. I dont have to transfer to my xbox anymore. Just burn a dvd or cd full of xvid or divx and play it like a dvd. Almost time for me to sell my old xbox i think.

You get the ps3 first tho :/ We are a long way away but at least we do still get some kewl stuff in Aussie.

Regards

What's sad is that you think burning to CD/DVD is faster than setting up the Xbox to play files from your PC (once) then just go to XBMC and play 'em. Why use media?

I thought MS already has forced firmware updates. Many times i have put a game in that requires an update from Live to play or at least run an update from the disc before it will play. What do you call that ??

Wad

I have my xbox, 360 and PC on a network continuously.

If i only want to watch something once then i will transfer it over. But if it is a whole season of something i burn them to watch later.

Way faster to load up the disc thru the dvd player by pressing open and close than turning on xbox, loading apps, loading media ctr, browse to files then play.

Understand ???

My reference to sad was regarding the control the mpaa have over your tech.. Why someone would take offence to that and call my actions sad is beyond me....

Uh, I have a Creative Zen Vision M, and it plays DivX and XviD files.... There is no conversion required, you just drag the video into your player, and off you go.

Check your facts buddy ;)

My mistake then, thanks. I remembered DIVX and XVID being in the thread, just forgot where they made their entrance. But I'm a bit more certain that someone mentioned the latest Vista beta supporting those codecs, at least.

WTF are you talking about, Xvid uses the Mpeg-4 Part 2 codec which contains ASP, which most portable devices can recognize.

They could ban via console(MAC) and profile ID i would think.

Im curious to read about someone with their original FW update, then try to flash the hacked FW back and see what happen's. All WITHOUT being on LiVE, Unless you have the original FW flashed. We might as well TRY to not get banned.

Maybe Team Xecuter's blaster device will be our answer, Just flash custom FW when you want to play backup's and ORIG.bin when you want to get on LiVE.

I honestly wish they'd put an end to the firmware hacks because it just opens up the doors for hackers. I could care less about homebrew or playing backups and such, but anything that can also give hackers a way into my gaming experience needs to be put to rest. Too bad there isn't a way to have the good without the bad.

by what mean is your gaming expierence affected?
Because of gamerscore cheaters? this has nothing to do with the FW hack!
The FW hack only allows playing (il)legal backups nothing more nothing less.

It's the final countdown! :D

I can see there is already a volunter to test the update on an hacked 360.. Is Microsoft stupid enough to ban consoles and start a wave of bashing from kiddies when Sony is just about to release the PS3? Are they willing to lose their earnings from XBL and risk not achieving their own profitability projected dates?

Well, Sony did insist in closing down one of the major players of legit games and hardware, so Microsoft is now short of one stupid suicidal act..

The final count down to some A-HOLE posting on here or somewhere else saying "HEY, I just flashed my haXored console and the hack's still work" So a bunch of people jump out and update only to find they really do get banned/completly screwed.

I hope everyone posting here at MaXconsole have more respect for the scene than to do something as ignorant as that.

But i'm waiting for more than this as confirmation.

I have just had a single report of a ROD.. Majority still working and playing on Live with backups.

VGA cable gamers will be desapointed to find out there aren't any added resolutions apart from the 1080p equivalent.. [I feel your pain 16:10 users :( ]

EDIT: For some the update stops halfway. Nothing damaged, just need to redownload the update.
There are a few reports (one or two) of ROD with CoD2 on hacked 360s.. Issue appears to be unrelated.

Nevertheless, don't assume you are safe on live.. It is to early and we may be very well lured into a trap, though that scenario is VERY unlikely for the reasons I have stated before..

It's all up to your TV, Sony supports 1080p over HDMI and VGA on certain TV's. I'm pretty sure Sony doesn't allow 1080p over component, but there are some brands that do.

if the 1080p doesnt work using the vga cable would it possibly work if i got something that would convert the vga to hdmi. don't know if that makes sense.
360 > vga cable > vga to hdmi > hdmi slot on tv
