View Full Version : MS 360 wireless protocol still not available to 3rd parties
Microsoft still refuses to make available its wireless 2.4 GHz protocol to third party developers. This means that the 360 version of Guitar Hero II will not have a wireless guitar controller, unless Microsoft have a hange of heart.
<center><img src="http://www.maxconsole.net/content_img/360prot.jpg"></center></a>
GamePro has learned that the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II won't feature a wireless guitar controller because Microsoft has not shared its wireless 2.4 GHz protocol. "Have you seen a third-party wireless controller? That's Microsoft's protocol," explained John Tam, executive producer with RedOctane.
"Right now, I'm gonna say [the Xbox 360 guitar controller] is wired. The Microsoft protocol for wireless has not been made available for third parties yet," Tam explained.
"We've asked for it, but they haven't given it out yet. Until we get some help...there you go. [We could] put it out later."
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

why would you want a wireless guitar, to pay 60 for it, and use it for just one game???

Guitar controller?
Please don't tell me that it's like the bongo drums or the chainsaw.
Ehh, anyone up for spending money on a controller that you'll never use for any other game ever again?

They could still do wireless if they wanted, just use a receiver that plugs into the USB/controller port

Youve obvioulsy never played the thing, then youd realise its easily worth the asking price +++.

LoL no arguement there. I've never played it because I'm not stupid enough to buy the damn thing and use it for that one game. Release other games for it, then come back and talk to me.

Its one of the biggest hits on PS2 of last year. And most of those people thought it was wort the price of admission.

Definatly agree. Guitar Hero is amazing and worth every penny. After I bought it for my girlfriend (ok, I bought it so I could play it also) we got 5 other people to buy it after they played. I hope MS releases the protocol because then I'll have to get it for 360 instead of PS2.
If you havn't played the game yet, it is a must, and don't compare it to other controllers because it being just for guitar hero is more then enough. It's easy to use this one controller for over 100 hours with just the one game.

In the end, what game don't you play for 100 hours or so?
RE4 was a hit, controller, useless.
DDR's controller scheme worked, why? Because there were many more releases of DDR. Can I expect the same from Guitar Hero? If so, then lets roll, I'll buy one. Other than that the marketing scheme has worked on most of you.
I'm with xllzerollx on this one.

Come on Billy you know you tend to get in trouble when you don't share. And it's all in the 360's best interest anyway.

Well, x360's Guitar Hero is in fact GH2, which is the 2nd one released within a year (only the first for this system. I think you can expect a few to follow.
And its hardly a marketing scheme when it's one of the few peripherals that actually make sense, just like Duckhunts Gun, DDR's dancemat, Singstar's Microphone.

You can use the Bongos in 4 games. Namely Donkey Konga 1-3 and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. And they are really cheap. You can get one with Donkey Konga 1 for 20€.

You missed it apparently. Specialized controllers work for HIT games AND providing that it has support for following games; not just one of these requirements.
BTW Donkey Konga line-up is hardly a HIT (unless you're 6)

I love how people critisize something they have never used or even seem to know anything about.
I have GH1 and love the game. Especially after I modded my guitar to be wireless. GH2 is on pre-order (minus the controller as I have one already) and once this takes of like the first there WILL most definatally be a sequel (again).
Give it time and I'm sure there will be other incarnations of it as well. Look at hte DDR clones.

That's really too bad about them not sharing it still, not because of Guitar Hero or any other shitty game that would require a special controller, but because it'd be nice to get a cheap wireless controller by Madcatz. That Neo SE or whatever it was called was a great controller, it just had a wire.

I'm a little confused about this whole thing. So, how does my Logitech universal remote work with all of the features of the 360? Is it using a different protocol / frequency? Now is the wrong time for MS to act this way. They should be handing over whatever developers need or work close enough with them so they don't have to reveal the information and still get the job done. I was looking forward to this game but I think wires make it less attractive. I hate wires running across my living room floor. I almost killed myself and my consoles a few times. I will pause and start doing other things. I leave my controller on the coffee table and sure enough at some point I trip on it. Hmmm guitar and 360 linked by a wire. You trip on it ..... which is going to go down first? You, the 360 , or the guitar (along with everything in its path)?

Let's face it wired controllers and large screen tv's don't mix. Can you imagine sitting 3 feet away from a 42" tv? a poor guy will go blind in 2 years.

i agree with the other guys. the game with the controller is really worth the price.

This game rocks, plain and simple. Its funny how RO is bitching about MS not giving the Wireless protocol and at the same time making it so the Tac-V wireless controller doesn't work on the PS2. I know that there is a lawsuit, but if RO would have made a wireless controller first and one to that quality I would have bought that one instead. Now I gotta wait for Tac to release some peripheral to allow my wireless guitar to work with the new game.

More like constantly paranoid. lol. And not really, the Wireless controller comes with the Premium edition of the console, and let's face it, who bought the Core System? Same goes with the PS3 core system though, that too will be wired still. =\

Yeah i was kinda pissed cause right after I did my Wireless hack to my original Guitar I found out that it would not work with GH 2 .. well the demo anyway.
Has the incompatibility been confirmed yet with the actual retail version? Either way even if it is locked out in GH2 it will be a few days after retail release that a fix is found. Hopefully (crosses fingers)

lol. it was very obvious to me that you could not possibly be into things like guitar hero, karaoke revolution, lightgun games, dance dance revolution, but as usual everything you don't personally play is "****" to you. but i guess that's just part of your personality.
as for the mad catz controller i agree too you.
nevertheless, some wise man said: the bigger the signature picture, the smaller his owners d*ck. so i guess the thing with the taking a (lol) sugar-frosted f*ck off it won't be that easy. :D

I'm pretty sure that the Wireless Remotes was one of the many things changed in the 20GB console, that they announced at E3.
EDIT: Yeah, I was right. The Core PS3 will come with a wired controller, but has the ability to use Bluetooth if you buy one, like the 360's core system. Along with no Memory Stick usage.

According to Sony's site and IGN, the wireless controller is not a benefit of the 60GB and I don't see anywhere in that Gamespot article where it says the wireless controller is just for the $600 console.

Yeah, I guess nobody payed attention to the PS3 vs 360 comparison chart that Sony put out (it was posted here). The controller is wireless just like you said. Wires suck and even Sony knows that. Scorpion3 don't let people get to you to the point where you want to block them . It's all fun and games until someone gets an eye poked out.
