I have the same problem, I think CRC Checksums might have something to do with it, that and WinRAR.

i swap my memorysticks in sleep mod. it's always work for me. but if i swap them while psp working system can't recognize memory stick.

i still don't understand what is the problem.

by the way, my 1gb sandisk always work flawless. this problem only happens when i use original sony memorysticks. i mean it's really strange problem...

I dropped mine this evening and now its not recognizing either of my memory sticks. I put them in and it reads then blinks, very fast but not flickering like it's reading.

I'm guessing something on the motherboard broke, anyone here good with hardware and willing to help me figure out what to fix/change?

one of 2 things, either the memory card is corupted/damaged (see if you can format it or read it with a standard pc memory card reader).

or the wifi/memory card board in the psp is bad.

I have experienced both.

Sticks are fine. How would I go about fixing the board, just buy a replacement psp motherboard and swap them out? Or would there be something I could solder to fix (I'm a noob to soldering, have all the stuff just never done it).

your lucky in that the wifi/memory card board is seperate to the motherboard.

you simply need to buy another wifi board, but you need to make sure you get the correct one for your motherboard as mixing them can cause different issues.

you need to see if you have a 79, 81, 82, 86 board etc.

I'm assuming it's version 79. PSP-1001 box code K with no markings on the PCB thats visible in the UMD bay. I bought it used from a guy at college, was the value pack, had 2.60 or 2.71 but I downgraded it and am using 3.03 OE-C.

Now to find a parts dealer or something...

well since you have to take it apart to put the new one in, it's worth taking it apart now and checking the board. it's easy to see once you take the screen bracket off as it's labeled on the bottom left corner of the board.

ebay's a good source.

If you have used your psp excessively for music and things, like leaving it on all night and on the charger all night, then you have burnt out your PSP's memory stick port. Basically, excessive use can prolong certain pieces of your drive to wear thin and eventually mess up. Now sometimes its ok to get it replaced, But in some cases, there is severe damage to the motherboard, resulting in permanent damage to the PSP. I hope this helps everyone. and a repair usually costs somewhere in the range of $75 - $100 US.

PS: This can happen to your LAN chip if used excessively too.

Any other questions etc can be posted to shamindar@hotmail.com
Im glad to be of your service.

it's looks like a manufacture fault. maybe you should change your wifi/ms boards. there is no software based solution.

I don't guarantee this will work for all but here goes...

Problem:
-PSP couldn't read the memory stick at all (games, saved games, music, etc.)
-Memory stick light kept on blinking continuously as if trying to read but could not (it blinked every second, estimate only).
-When in USB mode, computer detected the PSP was connected but couldn't explore the mem stick.

Solution (at least for me):
-Take out your battery and leave your PSP for 1 night without it. Pray it works. (seriously thats what I did ;)
-Put in the battery and see if your prayer was answered.
-If not, go to the following in the xmb menu: Game -> Saved Data (not sure if this is important)
-IMPORTANT: put your PSP in SLEEP mode (do not turn it off) and leave it for awhile (I left it for around 3 hours).
-When I turned it back on, my PSP was able to read the mem stick again! WTF man. Weird. I was already contemplating on whether I should buy the wifi/memstick board or if I should sell my psp for parts and buy a slim THEN this happens. Wow.

Guess one of the first poster in this thread was right - turning your PSP to sleep mode a few times (can) solve the problem. Hope this helps in some way. Good luck!

help. my psp wont recognize my memory stick.it worked once but then i tried to connect it again adn the data started to get abit corrupt. i then formatted the memory stick on the psp and connected it again but the pc couldn't recognize it so it tried formating it to a "fat32" but the computer said the memory stick could not be formatted. then i formated again into a "fat" it didnt format either i think because it was to slow and kind of freezin so i canceled it. after that i disconnected it and then the psp would no longer recognize it. is there a way to get the psp to recognize it again?
