I'm thinking that with me going off to college soon, I'm going to be strapped for cash when it comes to video games. So I looked into gamecube modding and I'm probably going to end up getting the Qoob pro because it has an on-board mp3 player, and can run linux - which can play videos.

My problem is, would I be better off getting a M3 Adapter/GBAMP (for the Gameboy Player)? I read through the Modthatcube and GClinux guides, but it didn't give a clear picture to weather or not going through the trouble of setting up linux on top of installing the modchip would be more cost effective.

Not worth it if you're only looking for an mp3 player. Getting the modchip and installing it is a lot of hassle just for that feature.

Qoob Pro is an amazing device and does a lot of other things. modthatcube probably enlightened you on NES and SNES emulation.

The M3 GBA player is a decent mp3 player for those who aren't spoiled by having high quality players already.

Besides the media functonality, I would end up getting the Qoob because of the skinable GUI and the ability to play "backups". I like the SNES and NES emulation, But I also heard of a N64 emulator, which im most interested in. Is it up to full speed?

Also - I'm getting into noob questions now, All of the features of the Qoob are actually in the bios, right? As an alternative to installing a modchip, could'nt I just put the qoob bios on the Max Drive Pro card? I would think you could, as homebrew BIOSs lke the GCOS have instruction to operate on MDP.

Don't know exactly. Not a Max Drive Pro person myself, but my sources tell me "Yes". I believe there must be a .dol version of the Qoob BIOS for this purpose somewhere.

As for N64 emulation, I have not tried it. But I believe some people have developed some pretty clever ways of going about it...like using the emulation software on the OoT: MQ and LoZ: MM discs that were released for the GC to run other N64 software.

Don't know where exactly you'd find the details of that, though.

If you do find something tangible, please bring it back here. I think T might be interested in it myself.

Because I have used the max drive pro I won't recommended! The mdp memory card is so buggy that took me like an hour just to transfer gcos to the card!
If you would like to try a soft mod go with the sd-adapter + Action Replay. You can play all the games you like, nes, snes, genesis (and more) from an sd card.
