Hey ever since I opened the cube to install my qoobpro the drive won't spin anymore, i've tried most things sugested on the net (mostly to do with the pot and checking if the laser/motor moves/makes sounds... which it does...) any sujestions or should I go straight to buying a new laser? Thanks in advance.

Shouldn't have anything to do with the POT.
Are you an experienced solderer? That would be my first guess. Wires are getting pinched...or the wrong points are bridged. Maybe you burnt the motherboard with the soldering iron...
These things are a lot more likely.

Thanks for the reply, I guess that’s most likely it then (not an experienced solderer) but on the other hand I am cautious and not completely incompetent. From the looks of all the pictures I have seen, it’s soldered right (not too much solder, soldered in the right places. I guess either I burnt the mo/bo by mistake or they are being pinched. I'll re-solder all the points and be extra careful with wires.
PS. Sorry for the misleading topic, but originally I had problems with the chip being flashed but I sorted it out with a bit more searching on the forums so thought I’d just edit the post instead of starting a new one.

Good luck.
I doubt you burnt the motherboard. I've said it before, the GCN is as durable on the inside, as it is on the outside. So long as you took precautions to not hold the iron to the boord for longer than 2 to 3 seconds at a time, you should be fine.
It's important to remember that you can't USB flash the cube, when your GC is on. At least, it should be off.
If you are second-guessing your soldering, there are some tools like a desoldering braid, a solder vacuum and a magnifying glass you might want to consider getting your hands on.
When you re-solder the chip, you ought to see if you can get the original BIOS to run, before re-soldering. That is, see if you can remove the chip connections are restore the GC to its original state.
If you manage that, you answer a lot of your questions.

Not recommending using a solder vaccuum for removing excess solder. You run the risk of sucking up more solder than you want, even, to a point, the pads that the component rests on. Trust me, I've learned the hard way. Desoldering braid is the more economical choice in removing excess solder from the board.
Check my sig for a post I did a while back regarding pre and post Qoob installs. There are some things there that might help with your problem. If not, post here and see if we can diagnose the problem.
BTW, welcome to the forums!

I like how the topic says the qoob won't flash... yet the whole thread talks nothing about flashing problems.... anyways... I was going to say that when I installed my Qoob Pro and turned on my GC nothing happened... then I wondered if a Bios has been Flashed to the chip... so I connected it to the PC (With the GC being powered off)... ran the 'Qoob Flash Software v1.3 Rev. 1' Flashing program and saw that indeed no bios had been installed... so I Flashed the 'Qoob Pro v1.3c' Bios to the chip.... disconnected it from the PC and hooked it back upto the TV and all worked fine...

An excellent and most judicious suggestion, Ms. Grrl.
You're best off doing your very first flash with the chip not hooked up to your GC. Just attach the the USB cable, and make sure that's working and take care of it before you take the next step.

Like I said i sorted out the flash problem and didn't think I should spam so just changed the topic instead of starting a new thread... Couldn't change the actual topic name... And yeah I flashed it before I even installed the chip. Tried a few bioses the disks just won't spin. I resoldered everythign but I reckon I just messed up the board. Looks like a new cube fore me. Thanks for the help though :).

So what's the plan?
Totally new Cube or a replacement DVD motor?
I guess it depends on where you are...in some locations, a used GCN can be a really nice deal. And make sure you try to reattach the chip you have before you go buying another one.

Yeah I will reattach the chip one more time after that I think a new cube is needed. The way I see, if it isn't just the motor then i'd have to get a new cube anyways. I heard you can stream games to the cube, if that worked do you reckon the cube would be fine and I just needed a new motor?
