Well for some time now I had a corrupt gameboot on my psp and needed a modchip to fix it, but now you don't. Start your psp and scroll over to the game application that you want to run. To skip the psp boot screen just hold the bright button of the psp before you start your game application. The bright screen button is located next to the sound, select, and start buttons. When you hold it the screen will go off and press x without releasing the screen button and then the psp will skip the gameboot and run into an application. Wait the correct time for the gameboot-usually 5 seconds- and then press the bright screen button again to turn the screen back on. You should now be in the application you have chosen and have skipped the gameboot.

Thanks to Milmirex for responding with this info in the half bricked psp thread

Ok il list it step by step:

1: Turn on your psp and have pspset already on your memory card.
2: Go to your memory stick apps and highlight pspset.
3: Hold down the brightscreen button and the screen should go black. Right when it goes black press x and pspset should be starting. DO NOT LET GO OFF THE BRIGHTSCREEN BUTTON WHEN U PRESS X.
4: After you have pressed x wait 2-3 seconds and let go of the brightscreen button and quickly press it again to turn on the screen.
5: Pspset should now be started or will start shortly and fade into the app without going into gameboot. (<-- this depends how long you hold the brightscreen button) and you will be able to restore your default gameboot with it.

NOTE: The brightscreen button is located near select, start, and the sound note. THIS WORKS 100% IVE DONE IT MYSELF KEEP TRYING IF YOU FAIL THE FIRST TIME

I don't see how this works as the PSP will still load the gameboot and initialize it, the LCD display is just cut off.

Oh wow, it does work O_O. Nice find.

Nice tip works great, very nice find. Lots of people seen to mess that up.

One other way I have found to fix this if you have flashed a custom firmware, boot into safe mode and do the 2.0 update and so on.. An other way is again safe mode turn on USB and rename the flashing application folders you used to flash your gameboot with "UPDATE" and 'UPDATE%" and and run the update eboot option then reflash a real gameboot or one you are 100%__ sure works, but that is only if you have POC. your find is much better, just FYI for toughs that have a custom firmware.

I´m glad this can be useful for anyone.

Just for the record this was discovered in todopsp, then in EOL and finally i post it here, and now we have a method to recover "half bricked" psp. The credit is enterely to jon2491 of todopsp and Black_Skull of EOL.

Cheers !!

Wow it does skip the gameboot.
When you have a corrupt gameboot does it mean you can't run anything, including a program to reflash your gameboot? Is that what a half-brick is?

Nice find.

try flipping your WLAN switch off or on, try both ways....and if those dont work, try to turn on the psp and immediatly flip it to hold...

if not, ya its a brick.

worse case, turn on while holding "R" and see if you have a recovery mode.
