I recently successfully installed my Qoob Pro with the latest bios. For some reason some original games have stopped working since the installation, for example both original copies of Metroid Prime and Resident Evil do not run on my GC, therefore the backups do not work either. It boots to bios, says running game and then theres a black screen, the disc never stops spinning, always a black screen.

However, I can make perfect copies of the original games that do work.

The original games that don't work in my GC work in my sisters unmodded GC, i thought it may be a case of tweaking the laser pot. After failing this i swapped the laser drive from the working GC and put it in my modded one, for some reasons the original still wont run!

Tested Games:
Mario Sunshine, original and backup works
Metroid prime, original and backup both display nintendo logo, then black screen
Boyind Good and Evil, original and backup work
Luigis Mansion, both original and backup work
Resident Evil, both original and backup go to black screen

So basically my gamecube will not run some original games meaning that of course i cannot run backups of them.

Does anyonehave any suggestions why?

check your wiring, make sure you didnt bridge anything on accident, and make sure everything is connected correctly when you reassemble. Also, maybe reflash the bios? Ive heard of a few DOA qoob chips but they usually dont work at all so I would guess a wiring problem.

Try this test. When playing the retail (original) disc, hold X on your controller to boot to the Cube BIOS. See if the retail game will load with the original BIOS.

If that doesn't work, try reflashing the BIOS. I'm assuming that you're using the QP 1.3c BIOS, and not the official Qoob BIOS. A safe bet would be to use 1.3b4 BIOS if 1.3c is still not working properly.

If that doesn't work, try using an alternative BIOS, such as GCOS. You might have to load the alternative BIOS from the Qoob BIOS. Simply hit B button while the QP is powering up, it should be in the Applications menu. I haven't needed to use an alternative BIOS, so I personally cannot confim this is how it's done, but it is known that the QP can be loaded with other BIOSes.

Although you did swap out the disc drives, your particular drive may need a pot. adjustment. Utilize this as a last resort.

I'm doubting that its the wiring since the BIOS loads properly. It doens't hurt to check the install if you are attempting the pot. adjustment, though. Check my sig for post-installation checks.

That's all I can offer for you. If the problem still persists, please post it up here. Someone else may be able to help you further.

goombakid, I was very much hoping that you would post here as you always post excellent solutions/suggestions, you've done it again, you are a legend.

All games run on the original BIOS, I then did as you suggested using an alternative bios and the problem has been solved. I used GCOM (the software I use to stream my ISO files to PC) and it tried to load the game, it then said 'patching DVD firmware' and the backup loaded perfectly. After this the game now runs straight from the Qoob BIOS, I've tested a load more games and they all work :)

Thanks very much for you help.
