View Full Version : Rumour: 20-30 Wii Virtual Console Games For Launch
IGN say you better believe a rumour that there will be around 20-30 Wii virtual console games at launch. According to 'insiders' Nintendo and official partners are striving to reach the mentioned figure of virtual console titles in time for the Wii's launch.
One of the big questions surrounding the Wii launch is, of course, exactly how many Virtual Console games might be available for download. According to insiders, Nintendo and its officially announced partners are collectively working hard to prepare somewhere between 20 and 30 classics. The games themselves will represent some big hits from the NES, S-NES, TurboGrafx 16 and SEGA Genesis platforms. It is not yet known if other publishers will have Virtual Console games ready in time for the launch of Wii later this year. Nor is it known if Nintendo or third parties will choose to showcase their original Virtual Console efforts at launch.

It does seem as though Nintendo can get away with alot and people dont mind because its Nintendo.
How much will they be charging for games that are upto 20 years old?

so nintendo is reselling everything, but the psp rocks because you get to play ps1 games through emulation? ok... that makes alot of since because everyone says that is a buying point of the psp. if you could buy for instance secret of mana on Wii for 5 bucks instead of $60 off ebay wouldn't that be cool? apparently not.

Man, People bitched about the GC not being backward's compatable so Nintendo makes the Wii BC but you obviously cant give games away for free, I'm sure they won't be much and those who don't have a xbox to run all the great emulator's will love playing the old school game's.
Like parents who are buying the console for their kid's, basically they can enjoy some good old shool game's they haven't been able to play for a long time.
When little tommy isn't playing with his Wii, Daddy can play with little tommy's Wii, In fact mommy and daddy could play with little tommy's Wii at the same time till they both had sore wrist's. Fun for the whole family:)

something about saying "mommy and daddy could play with little tommy's Wii at the same time till they both had sore wrist's." just sounds wrong. :D
But I welcome the old school emulation on the Wii. No mods needed. No opening a system to void its warranty (and seeing how the DS hinge is a prob now you just might need that Wii Warranty). No soldering. People pay upto $100 or more for backup systems or mod chips. Now you can prolly pay a whole lot less (hopefully this won't cost to much. Maybe some kind of monthly subscription fee or something) and do it LEGALLY.
Backwards compatibility has been a fairly constant thing for systems. PS1 on PS2. XBOX on XBOX 360. GB on GBC. GBC on GBA. GBA on DS. GC on Wii. PS1 on PSP (technically emulation and not really backwards compat. but what the heck). Sega Mastersystem on Genesis. Whether its done by adapters or thru onboard emulation people like it. And if its not there people complain "Why doesn't the Dreamcast play Saturn games".
I'm sure Nintendo has some BIG plans for this as it is one of its main features (other than the Wiimote). I'm sure the big N won't dissapoint us. All we can do is wait and see.

Well, why Nintendo is guilty here? Everyone knows how emulation runs around internet :D
And why ***** about the revamp of some old Games, Sega do the same with Sonic, Namco every time that can includes Pac man on its fraachise titles as an "add-on" inside new adventures ( don't forget Miss pacman and all the stuff after that ) Time to time we have "midway treasures 1,2,3 etc", King of Fighters Collection for Ps2, what about Fatal Fury? Art of Fighting, which year there wasn't a relaunch of some Street Fighter XX? The PSP version does look a bit different?
Since those titles on Wii are optional, I don't see any problem. Personally I wanted to see if is possible to Play some N64 games on Wii, classics like paper Mario, mario 64, DK, Mario kart, etc..and to see old timers coming back to the TV, like Super mario World, Super Metroid, Castlevania, Earth Worm jim :D etc etcetc

As the Virtual Console Games are lying on SD Cards I hope theres a way to get your own roms running on Wii.

After some group mode the console, via SD card, chip, etc, will be maybe something like PSP. Maybe even GC games can run via SD

Wait a min.... people are bitching about being given more options? You dont *have* to buy the old games, its just avalable there for anyone that wants them yet some of you say this is a bad thing?
You lot really are mental round these parts.

Nope, choices are good. But releasing a game, then making minor upgrades/updates to it and re-releasing it as a brand new game is really just bull. You can't tell me that they couldn't just release a Madden game and have a downloadable update for the rosters each year. Then maybe every other year, when they make a whole bunch of fundamental gameplay/graphics/game type upgrades, they can release a new game.
And you can't talk about EA giving people choices when they have bought the rights to a couple major sports franchises just so they don't have to worry about competition. This also prevents them from having to come up with anything innovative or new because they are now the only game in town and if you want to play a football game, your locked into buying EA.
Edit: Wait, I think I misunderstood you, after rereading your post I think your were talking about the Virtual Console and not EA. Sorry bout the confusion.

ummmm....They never said that. Find me a creadible article stating that because Nintendo NEVER said their whole BC would be available at launch.

Anyway, they COULD do it. But they won't, why? because to keep people waiting and downloading thigns slowly with time.. every week a new "release". If you put ALL avaliable at once, then there is nothing left, and NO TIME to play all, as should also.
Is like the the internet game-backup downloaders freaks, they own every back up out there and played maybe 500 titles 4 min each, just to see the overture.
" I own every sinlge game of that console, oh yeah, the Beta , alpha and gamma too, the JPN release, Europe, the australian, Zimbawe hack's, and TIME's magazine Demo version. " There you ask, "did you actually play the game?" ....:D

Bill Gates said something about the path to creating the true Information Super Highway (which no, does not exist yet) is through media consolidation.
The closer we get to having a device that can do everything electronic the closer we get to this goal.
So anything Nintendo feels like cramming into a system is fine by me.
