EDIT: I realized that you referenced the *.sgm format in the thread's title. Now correct me if i'm wrong but that filetype is used to store save states correct? I don't know how to do this yet, but I'll try and figure it out.

err, uhum, yes well, lets see

Pull up your M3 Game Manager, and double click the game for which you wish to import/export the *.sav.

Now, if you want to export the *.sav from the M3 to play in vba you click "Read.Sav" under general format, and then save it into the directory of your liking. Now open up your VBA exe and load the rom you wish to play. Under file, scroll down to Import and then select import battery file. find your *.sav and open it, say ok or whatever...

For importing, click "Write.Sav" in your M3's savegame manager. And it will convert it into M3's *.dat format.

Now, I may have fuddled things up a bit, I don't have my M3 anymore and I have to work entirely with all the *.dat I copied to my harddrive. Anyways, if I made things unclear or they don't work right, try this: M3 Wiki GBA Conversion Stuff (http://www.m3wiki.com/index.php?title=Converting_GBA_saves_with_the_Game _Manager_2.6A)

GBA Saves, on the M3 are .dat also? How do I convert Gameshark SP saves from Gamefaqs, to this format? Or even convert those to .sav, and then into .dat?

ah yes well you see...

just load up the *.sps (gameshark snap shot) into VBA, then you know, export a *.sav! (Thanks to outphase from GBAtemp.net!). Very Simple You See?!

Furthermore, if you can hex edit, Zelion from GBAtemp suggests this method:
Well, SPS is gameshark save or something, theres a few different ones out there. You can HEX Edit the file, remove the last 4 bytes and then remove from the begining of the file and delete bytes until your filesize is 65536 bytes. Seems kind of tedious, but its accurate. Also if you don't know how to use a hex editor dont bother trying this. Hex Workshop is pretty much perfect for this task btw.

Also take note that the filesize may not be 64KB(65536)
Common Save sized are 32KB(32768) 64KB(65536) and 128KB(131072) (I tried it and it works great, just "save as" *.sav when you're done!!)

SUPERB!

now just follow my first reply to get your *.sav into your *.dat!

All

VBA saves to M3....
From the VBA main screen. Go to "File" and then "Export" battery save "xxx.sav" then use this utility---> http://www.lalilulelo.net/G6SaveConverterv032.rar and then chose the convert to .sav option then rename the .sav to .dat in your "Gamesave" folder on your SD. Make sure you already have a .dat file already in your folder created by the DS or I dont think this will work.....

sorry to hi-jack a topic but since the topic creator's question has been answered and I myself have a save file problem, i thought i'd ask it here

I have a R4 and a supercard, right now i'm playing pokemon red using my slot-2, it took me ages but i've finished, just to realise i've lost everything

since sueprcards can't ingame save (at least not for pokemon red) so i used realtime save, however once i beat "the elite 4" characters, then it tried to save automatically, because it couldn't i was screwed, the game continues so i was happy it ignored the error message so i immediately realtime save, but it turns out after the credits it won't start the aftergame story

JUST because it couldn't ingame save

i could try to play through it using VBA but its save files are different

how do avoid this ingame save thing problem?

p.s if certain games have lag eg. tekken advance due to it not having onboard memory does that mean its a problem unavoidable for a supercard that just emulates the game?
