Hi ^^

It hasn't been a long time that I made beup 0.2a, but I made another update.
It's now more like the new MSN called: Windows Live Messenger 8.0 (WLM)

Here are some screenshots that I made quickly:

Hi I tried to use BeUp but it doesn't work as it hangs at the connecting part. The keyboard does not register.

Using Kingston MiniSD 1Gig.
Please help.

During the authentication step my (main) @msn.com account fails where my (old) @hotmail account works (great).

That said - this thing is totally awesome and I've been waiting for it since I got my M3. Thankyou so much for your work.

Good luck fixing/tuning it up.

Hi guys,

well..
if you cant run it with DHCP, you'll need to put the WiFi settings manually
(you can do this with Mario Kart DS for example)

@JamesBond: It is WEP supported allready...

@6vx: tnq :) There is some kind of different autentication for @msn.com.. needs to be fixed it yes..:)

@cloudiz: I dont know why this is happening.. but the keyboard thing is normal.. it wont work untill you got connection with a router..

For those of you that have it sitting there trying to connect and it goes no where this might be your problem:

If you hide your SSID (ie don't broadcast the network id openly, some of you might do this for security) this app isn't able to find the network.

After I changed my router so that it would broadcast the SSID...I was able to connect and sign on. Interestingly though the app obviously uses the correct wireless settings because I didn't have to enter my wep key or any setting (obviously it just pulls off whatever I saved on the DS when I connected using another a wi-fi), so I don't see why it couldn't connect to the network if it new the name of it?

@ HtheB: in future releases it would be nice if the first screen you saw was a place to enter your Network info and then once saved you wouldn't have to enter it again...much like any Wi-fi game. (Obviously that takes time)
Keep up the good work!

i have been able to log on after disabling MAC address filtering. That is a bug of BeUp which needs to be changed. In the restricted list DS games can go online so it's not the MAC fault.
Now.. why is the contact list imcomplete and missing?

uses the 2nduser the original Wndows Messenger? Normally he should see the pictures you drawed! I can imagine, if he uses Trillian or something it won't work!

Yes, it's enabled and it just hangs there and "Cannot connect" after a few seconds. And now beup 0.3 is released, i boot it exacly like i booted the 0.2, but 0.3 just gives me black screens... Great!

Can't get what's wrong. Any ideia?

Works like a charm for me...what's the changelog between this and older version?

Blue_Ninja0
07-27-2006, 09:08 PM
Okay, i've managed to put 0.2 to work properly, by setting the DS to a static IP, switching the "auto-obtain IP address off". But why... oh why does 0.3 just refuse to boot? It just shows me 2 black screens. I flash 0.3 to the card exactly the same way i flashed 0.2, but 0.2 works and 0.3 does not. Am i loosing a lot or there's not much diference between 0.2 and 0.3?

Btw, i have a DS Lite with flashme V7 beta for Lite and i use an Ez-Flash 2.

Edit: I've solved it. Looks like i got the wrong version for my flash card. I downloaded the ones that tobster posted, but there are 2 more versions. Right here:

http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=10060&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=330

That thread is where beup's maker (kevinc) releases the new versions.

blue ninja - sorry to send you off to the wrong version of beup - there do seem to be a few available. which one did you get to work (perhaps based on file size) & I assume you're using the 0.3 rev version now? I haven't actually tried 0.3 as 0.2 works fine for me (though I guess I should take the plunge & have a play).
later...

nice video clip, though my version of beup doesn't look like that one - mine is supposed to be 0.3rev2 - I can't find the avatar option in mine. Perhaps I don't actually have the latest version? HtheB, can you recommend the best place to get this file for CF SC? thanks. FYI, this 'new' version seems to boot up much quicker than 0.2

I haven't tested it myself but,
What format are your avatars in?
I think it only accepts 96x96 bitmaps. Or try PNG if that dosn't work.
If you hex edit beup.nds, theres a reference to /beup/avatars, so it should be the correct path.

I tried using this but it won't go any further than "Doing handshake". I'd really like to get it working, as I might be moving abroad soon and it'd be more convenient to be able to take my DS to a wifi hotspot in order to talk to people back home than having to lug my laptop about.
Does anyone have any tips? It sees my wireless router in the SSID field but I had to add an IP address manually. I'm using a Supercard Lite, if that makes a difference. I'm not sure which version it is, but the file is called beup-rein.nds.

When people say that it should connect automatically if you've already set up the connection in a wifi enabled game, like Mario Kart, are they referring to a copy of the game stored on the flashcart or should it work if the game is just plugged into slot 1 as normal. I haven't bothered storing any commercial DS games on my SCL yet because it seemed like a bit of a waste of memory when I can carry the game cards around just as easily, but if it helps to get Beup working then I shall.

Hey i dont know much about this app, so i was wandering if you could help me out with a few questions:

1) Ive heard its basically MSN mesenger. Can i use it to talk to other msn users, or only beup users?
2) Do i need an internet connection to do it?
3) Do i need that nintendo wifi usb thingy to use it?

Thanks for your help :)

Thanks

This program is really doing my head in now. At least before I could get it up to "Doing handshake", now it freezes on the WiFi Config screen.

Can anyone help? Sorry to keep nagging about this, but I really want to get this working and the knowledge that it partially worked before makes it all the worse that it won't work now, because there's no apparent reason for it to have changed.

Try Power Cycling The Router, Also Go Into The Router And Restore Factory Settings, At Least Ya Can Start From There, Then See Where The Prob Lies

Ted Zeppelin

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've never changed any settings on the router so I don't see how it could be the problem.

To give more detail: I load Beup (v0.3) on my SupercardLite. It starts up normally, with the message:

Connecting using firmware setup:
Searching...
Associating...
Authenticating...
Acquiring host info from DHCP...

After a minute or so it will say "Cannot connect" so I tap where it says 'SSID', select my router, then input the IP address manually which causes the rest of the settings to fill out automatically.
Then when I tap "Use Custom" the program just freezes up, whereas that used to take me to the login screen instantly.

You can see why it's giving me a headache. I haven't changed any settings to the best of my knowledge, but the program is acting up all of a sudden. It was bad enough when it would hang at "Doing handshake" but this is even worse.

hey!

i didnt try the new version, and i cant right now (dont have a card-reader)
(i'll get one as soon as possible and try it out ^^ )

anyway, what i wanted to ask:
is it now possible to send drawings? i tried it out with an older version, and my buddy only received an empty message. same with me (when he sends a drawing)

and: when do you plan to implement icq-compatibility? will you do it at all?
is there any ds-icq-client available right now?

am I the only one that can get this app to work??
MSA - yes it is possible to send hand drawn items though the quality is not so good.
My original connections problems were sorted by statically setting the ip AND deleting the automatically generated connection settings whilst in Mario Kart i.e I only have one conection setting now. Strangely enough BeUp stopped connecting recently, but it seems to have cured itself without any intervention by me - most strange.

The bottom line is that I can confirm that the very latest final Final 0.3 version of BeUp does indeed work.
