View Full Version : My Story, A 1.5 gone Bad

Hello All. A quick story of my heartbreak. I bought a PSP for my son at the US launch. It had the 1.5 fw and I quickly realized I had a gem. I told my son over and over to never update the fw or lend it to anyone because of its capabilities.
Fast foward to a week ago. My son owed me money and since he rarely played his PSP I would trade him, cashed owed for his PSP. He agreed. I asked him to get it for me but he couldn't find it. I pushed the issue and he fessed up that he let his buddy borrow it 3 days earlier. He got it back from his friend and gave it to me. I turned it on and then my heart dropped as I realized his friend took my beautiful 1.5 fw and updated it to a 2.71. I am still sick about the whole situation. I came here because I had to vent to people who would understand.
Oh well, life does go on. I do have one question. Do you think it is just a matter of time before a downgrader is available for 2.71. I know UP is available, but I really don't care to go down that route. I will if I have to, but I would rather wait for a downgrader.
Thanks for listening to me whine.

after beating the crap out of him, get his money and buy a modchip
dont wait years for a downgrader when you can have better.
i was lucky to get a factory 2.5 and downgrade it :P

aaa man thats sucks big time!:(
well, this is what i would recommend to you.
trade in your 2.71 psp for something like a 2.60 or 2.50. if you manage this, you can dg using Grand theft auto's eloader hack. it depends though, if you get GTA now, your screwed, sony patched up the hole, but if you have a gta game which requires a 2.00 update on the umd, your in luck. from there, simply dg using dark alexes downdater.
OR
the UP chip, bad bad bad way to go, i do not recommend this at all. you need to be EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA good at modding a psp!!!!!!!!!!! many have failed and bricked their psps! i woudnt recommend this option, but getting it built in for you from an online store may help, although cost a lot......
OR
Beat the crap out of the dude who upgraded it:D, tell em to buy you a psp with fw 2.00 to 2.60.
MAAN you should not have lended it. loads of crap like this happens giving it away. before you gave it away, you SHOULD have used a version changer or x-flashe's update disabling facility (network only) to prevent it. dont you know of wab's version changer? you could have tricked it into 7.5 before, and got it back as the same old gem you know a week or so ago, just with the different number that could be changed back to 1.5! i feel bad for you dude!
:(
hope you find luck in finding another one!!! i dont think a 2.71 dg will arrive just yet....

Hmm.. that sucks big time.. sorry to hear that
agreed with re4ryu Option number 3
btw , how tha heck he upgrade it when he does not have a PSP Power Supply? thats what i wanted to know . i thought psp can ONLY upgrade if the dude acutally have the power plugged it .... if so .. maybe he DID do it..... hmm.. either way still no good :o

my thoughts precisely.
Check out to see what build it is.. if its not a launch build (serial might be logged on reciept if you have it) I think you have been conned by your sons friend.
Trade it in and hope you can get a used 2.5 or 2.6 model, or opt for the expensive UP chip. Even the trading will be expensive as you have to get GTA also, and I don't presume that you can get a straight trade with someone who has a 2.50 or 2.60 for a 2.71 unit.

NEVER, NEVER but then NEVER lend out a console, not even to your best friends!
It ends always in a way that you are fucked!

I learnt a long time ago NEVER to lend anyone any of my stuff. Bottom-line is that nobody treats your possessions as though they are theirs. Perhaps this was your time to learn the same hard lesson I once had to. I do know how you feel, but keep the faith, as people would have considered downgrading 2.6's pure fantasy like a week or so ago so anything can still happen for 2.7x.

awwww im so sorry superdad. i have 2 version 1.5 psps and wouldnt upgrade them for anything. besides, the psp is dying anyways. which is a pity cause it has had some really good games so far. anyways hopefully with the next batch of mgs and silent hills its gonna pick up again. right now get the nintendo sick sucker (DS). people seem to love that for some reason. then again people also went with the iraq war didnt they?
you should get undiluted platinum though.
I'm sorry for your loss.
But admins: how is this front page material? Stuff like this happens every day everywhere.

Hey man.. you should press your son about this... He could have traded the 1.5 for the 2.71 and some extra cash or something. He lied about not knowing where it was..... Who knows... U should put yer son to work, get the money he owes you, and buy a new psp.
I can tell you this tho.. there is a very small chance that your 1.5 got updated... it is probably floating around somewhere.. The one you have most likely isnt yours...

lol your son owes u money so instead u were going to take his psp away from him...niicee... a lot of dads would do that anyways I guess ;) just pawn it on ebay and buy another one sheesh. if you're a dad and can afford a kid i'm sure u can afford a console.

I'm wondering how a story such as this makes front page news.
I mean, I'm sure plenty of people have bad-flashed their Xboxes... or have had idiot room mates go on Xbox-live while leaving the modchip enabled - but that stuff doesn't get posted.

What i wonder is what kinda father would even worry about something as miniscule as a video game console. From the sounds of it, mommy must've left long ago.

I totally think you should hold his friend accountable or should I say his parents but first you need to ask your son if he told his friend not to update his/your PSP if so you have a lawsuit but is it really worth it. In that case I'd make my son work off the debt of buying one off ebay minus the cost of selling the updated PSP at EB Games or a similar store, even ebay. Also I would get in touch with your sons friends parents for the purpose of questioning their own son as to what happened----kids have access to the internet also and can read that 1.5 firmware opens up alot of cool doors.
i'm curious about checking the serial number... it would be nice to know if it was actually updated, or if they gave you a totally different psp.

You should teach your son a lesson since he obviously does NOT listen to you....have him or his friend BUY you a new one...if you buy a NEW PSP right now it should be 2.5 or 2.6 frimware....and still keep your old..AGAIN to teach him a lesson...why do I call you "Super Stupid Dad"? becuase if you knew your son had a Virgin 1.5 ...you should have gotten the 1.5 for yourself and bought your son a new psp perhaps 2.0...

If you do a network update you don't need the ac adaptor plugged in, I upgraded to 2.70 and then 2.71 this way, unfortunately. Had I actually been required to plug in the adaptor I'm sure my laziness would have got the better of me and I'd now be happy at 1.50

even as a dad you can keep some passions, no need to play 20hours a day, that ain't life :) from what a I read, there isn't a potential future mommy in your life anywhere near you
