hrmmm, hey guys im not new to the mod scene, just the ps2 poriton of it :x. I bought a Xeno PS recently b/c of its affordibility and stability. Only problem is, is that the chip is pretty new on the market and has very little, if any, support. Not a good combination for a guy new to this kind of thing. Anyway, my question was:

What kind of dashboard/bios load should I use?

:I've heard of Elfboot (which comes in elf files so I wouldn't even know how to load it on the ps2).

ToxicOS which is hear goes in alot of matrix infinity chips (& also read that Xeno PS is a clone of the Infinity) but needs a large amount of flash memory.

Toxic also has bios as well. But my main problem is know what to flash my Xeno PS w/ and what kind of dash I should be using.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

The Xeno is a matrix infinity firmware on it,and the toxic os you cant use with this chip.
You need tools like: ULaunchElf (as an user interface to add and start more than one programm) and maybe the hdloader(to backup and start games from your harddisc.
When you want you also can install some emulators.
Mor you dont need,ULaunchElf has an filemanager and an ftp server in it so you dont need more apps!;)

The Dev Mode from the chip works the the same joypad combination like the matrix infinity modchip.
But at first you must install launchelf to your MemCard or HDD,or use it only from CD/DVD!

I dont know what you want exactly, what you want to do,play games from harddisc, use some tools to look which is the best for you.

Let us a little bit more know what you want exactly do with your ps2! ;)

I apoligize for my generality. I mainly want to play games/media off of an hd (I have a 300 giger laying around). Here is a message I wrote on another forum pertaing to all the questions I would have as well as the info on my ps2.

:
Hey guys, first time iv'e done ps2 moding but not modding in general. I have a few questions now moving into the ps2 scene (considering that every forum everwhere on the ps2 mod subject is soooo expansive, one can get lost very easliy).

INFO: I've done several XBOX mods as well as gamecube mods. I have a ps2 v7 w/ a xeno ps modhcip and just finished all of the soldering & wirering. I read somwhere that the xenops chip is a clone chip of the matrix infinity chip. No big deal for me I suppose, but...

1. Is there a dashboard/bios launcher program that I need for my xeno on the ps2? I bet there is and is on this site but there probably is a wide variety as well. Which is the best and easiest to use in your opinion?

-Is there a way to load it through cd? network? hd? Maybe a link to a tutorial about this?

2. Opening the ps2 for the first time seems like a jig-saw puzzle. Don't wanna forget a screw somwhere as I'm reassembling it back together. Would there be a link or somthing w/ a photo tutorial on how to disassemble/reassemble the ps2 (ex. mod-chip.com has a nice tutorial, but as many of you know the full version is only for paying customers).

3. I have a 300 gig hd, as well as a ps hd/network adapter, laying around right now and would like to use a hdloader program (which i know is on this site, but like before there are many differnt selections to choose from). I'm sure these programs also manage and catagorize your games as well.

4. To check if the mod chip works before fulley assembleing the ps2, is there somwhere i should stop in the reassmbleage process? Like I said before this sucker is much more complex than the other systems in design.

5. In the ps2 v7 pics for the wiring coming from this site it says that there is a "SX" point on the board, but no point like that on the chip itself. There is, however, an "S" point on the chip for which i connected the 2 together. Is this ok?

6. The Xeno PS chip also came w/ a ps2 fix chip, but I am not sure that I am suppost to put it on my ps2 considering the picture that the directoins use looks similar to a ps2 slim board. I assume its for later versoins of ps2. Branching off of that what is the ps2 fix chip for?

As I said before, the ps2 scene is much different from other consel scenes. Considering the expansive amount of progs and ps2 versions the entire thing gets unorganized and is hard to find what you are looking for. If anyone could help me w/ anything or all these questions it would be much appreciated...

Thanks,
Omega

Ok,

1. for this question, yes you have answered it w/ using ULaunchElf, my only question about this file manager/dash is how I would be able to load it into my ps2? by CD/DVD? If CD then does it have to be a high quality CD-RW? Or DVD? I DL'ed the file and It comes in Elf file format, would I need to just burn the file on a disk as Data?

2. I figured the ins and outs of the ps2, still would be nice to have a visual reference.

3. Yes I have found the programs to run an hd on my v7 ps2 but there are like 4 or 5 different ones. I suppose I would need one that would work with my 300 giger.

4. Its a bit of a pain to fulley reassemble/disasemble the mod to see if it works (which I don't think it did when I put it back together but thats another post i suppose)

5.This question was answered, yes the SX point is the same as S point.

6. This question was answered as well, the ps fix is for the ps2 v12

Sorry for my late reply ( to much to do in the garden :D )

Yes,use alltimes highquality DVD´s or CD´s (RW-DVD/CD´s,DVD+ and cheaps CD/DVD´s arent really good to your laserlens, and DVD-RW´s doesn´t work in a V7 Console on v8 Machines you can use DVD-RW).

When you want to have ULaunch.ELF on your memcard go this way:

Burn Ulaunch on your DVD/CD (good quality DVD/CD ;) ) with some Dummy files and start it in your Ps2.
When you are in the menu you must set the IP settings and after it you can connect your ps2 with an FTP Tool like FlashFXP or TotalCommander.
When go to PS2/MC0/ and make a Folder that called BOOT in this folder you copy in the Root with the NAME BOOT.ELF your ULAUNCH.ELF File (so rename it into BOOT.ELF;) ).
When its done, you must can also install the .ELF from the HDDLOADER onto your MemCard! ;)
Boot DEV 1 with the XenoPS is the same Combination the Matrix Infinity have on ps2 bootup press and hold R1 to boot: "mc0:BOOT/BOOT.ELF" !;)

Ok,
2. I figured the ins and outs of the ps2, still would be nice to have a visual reference.

What did you mean exactly?

The newest HDLOADER Version is the Hdloader_0.8a!This one is that you need!Google for it we dont give a link to it! ;)
Or you the unpacked HDLOADER and patch it by your self to 8a!;)

Ok,

The SX is the same Point and you only need him to playing Psx Games! ;)

Ok,
6. This question was answered as well, the ps fix is for the ps2 v12

When you have a v9-v10 you must use the LA Fix for the LA Chip,on an V12-13 you must you the LaserFix and of course you have got a v7,so you dont need every fix,but use high quality CD/DVD to let your ps2_drive live a little bit longer!;)

I hope my english isn´t to bad:D!

I am also sorry for the late reply. I decided to redoo the wireing in my ps2 to make it look as nice as a n00b can make it. Took a while for me to get the ps2 up but I did and try the uLaunch by what you said, but the ps2 trys to read it as a dvd movie. And then does'nt end up reading it. I burned a 1000 mb. dummy file as well as the Ulaunchelf files onto a Ritek DVD+R cd at 2X speed with Nero. Should I burn it faster? Don't know what else I can do.

Just wondering, when the chip is installed fresh into the ps2, is it suppost to look normal like the chip wasn't in the ps2. Because it loads up with the glowing white balls like it usually does. Is there supposed to be some chip bios interface when I install it?

Ok,i see some problems, the most problems with cheapmods you become when the wires are to long and crossing each other.
I known what the ps2 is hard to mod at the first time, but to bring the best functionality with the cheap mod,you must install the cheap on an other place.
You´re work are ok,but never forget, you has an cheapmod,no new DMS,Crystal or Matrix!;)
One Tip: take GND and 3,3 VOLT with Short and Big wires from the mainboard to the chip. The other cables (Bios and Drive Patch) also short and with no crossing to other connected cables like the attached picture;) its an other chip (Dms4ProSE) but this is a better method to install your chip to!
