Yo nice to meet you all 0/

Just wanted to express my qoob experiences so far with you all :P

First of installation was piss, i mean was mega simple, i was only let down by the lack of double sided tape as to stick the chipp to the cubes insides (later purchased from local hardware store).

And secondly, well this is were prob's started :/ . I backed up a few games and tryed them, all burnt on 8cm infosmart dye disks using nero. The results were poor :( not one of the disks worked, i burnt at all speeds ranging from 2.4-8X and not one worked. Then entering the options menu of the qoob chipp i came accross a setting wich allowed me to use TYPE A and TYPE B. It was by default set to TYPE A, so i read the readme and looked in to what these modes do, and swithed to TYPE B......BINGO!!!!! Every disk tht had failed me worked first shot not a problem........ I even done a disk read on a few of the games by pressing A at start and no errors were found on any disks (the pi error scan using my plextor also confirmed the errors were below 20 to thoush of you tht knows what this means).

So now im happy, and im crossing my fingers tht when or if ver 1.4 is released, they will leave this option in (TYPE B) as it clearly makes a diffrence to my game playing.

Also got the action replay codes working along with the media boot, wich i must say is rubbish ( to used to XBMC :P).

All in all this was the best choice of chipp i think i could have made, and im very happy now with my cube :) Cheers to this forum for all your help as well during my install etc :)

Ohh and before i go ill add my wish list (just my 50Cent)

-Better gui and instant boot media play with support for both XViD and DiVX

-More skins :P

-Better GUI for the qoob bios (i have found entering, and leaving options a bit of a pain)

-More stupid apps :P i want to see sys temp etc :P

over and out

Type B reacts the same way as A on my cube. My games never pass disc check, even when they are in good quality.

I had nothing but bad burns (by bad I mean they fail the Qoob disc test, not that they won't load at all) when I burned the discs on a newer Lite-On DVD burner. But my trusty old Toshiba burner on another computer, almost always a perfect disc. Same media, same Nero 6 software.

Burners do seem to make a difference.

weird, i just burned backup on full sized traxdata dvd (ritek G05). Disc quality was 90, which isn't very good. When i lowered the read speed it was like 75(crap). Then i just tested it on cube, and to my suprise it played like original and disc check passed all 3 times, when i tried it. My mini-dvds(traxdata ritek G04) never pass the test, althrough the quality is better than full sized ones. How could that be explained?

I think the media your using is crap to tell the truth. If you want better quality pay a bit more for verbitam or yuden disks, and i bet you'll find that you get way better results, especially if you have a half decent dvd writer.

In my case i think i have been lucky in getting a gamecube drive that has good error correction or mabey a decent pot etc. I have been using shitty info-sumat 001 disks tht have all been read fine.

type A is crap. I just installed my qoob and did everything (except adjust pot) and my backup failed. I then switched to mode B and it worked perfectly. I knew it wasent my disc because I burned it onto a taiyo yuden disc and those are the best discs in the world (Way better then riteks)

Mode B should be default

AHMEN TO THT :P

Wish i had a retailer close buy tht sold yuden disks :( but my verbs will do for now.
I also would really like to know what technically makes the 2 modes diffrent as well?

I couldent find a single place nearby that sold taiyo yudens so I went to blankmedia.ca I ordered 300 Discs so that way, the cost would be the same as buying the cheaper riteks. Unfortunetly, im down to my last 20 discs, and its only been 6 months lol. Im gonna order 1000 more on the next time. That should cost me like $500, but its worth it for the ammount of burning I do.
