View Full Version : Ubisoft Dev: Wii Is More Powerful Than Xbox, But Can't Do Some Stuff It Can Do
Jeux-France have an interview with one of the lead developers working on Ubisoft's red steel title for the Wii. When questioned about the Wii's power being compared to the Xbox, he said that the sum of the Wii's power is greater than the Xbox' but there are things the Xbox can produce which the Wii can't produce - let's hope he was talking about something such as game bugs! The interview was translated via Babelfish so alot could've got lost in translation.

Nintendo is going to be in such hurt this time around. Who wants to buy another Gamecube with a tv remote? The Wii isn't even going to be as good as the Xbox. =( Wrong move Nintendo.

The Wii isn't even going to be as good as the Xbox.
so how do you know ?
i think the wii will be one of nintendos biggest successes in the history of gaming.
but i agree that the wii should have more multimedia features, it surely has the needed power for it, so why doesn't nintendo include such things?

The millions of people that are currently biting their nails waiting on it? By the looks of polls, theres at least 10times as much intrest as there are for the PS3.
Power means nothing when it comes to games now. Cube was powerful enough to do all a games console has to do. Graphics are one of the least important parts of games - the utter rubbish on the 360 shows that.

It seems with the WII that instead of investing in a next gen console youre investing in a next gen controller. Graphics are also important, realism makes for a much more enjoyable game.
The initial excitement of the new controller will fade quickly and WII owners will be stuck playing Gamecube quality games with their classic controllers. Too much emphasis has been based around the WII remote, its a one trick pony.
I wouldnt read into the internet polls to much either. Most people are saying they want a WII and a 360. Its a nice idea but how many of us can really afford two consoles with games and peripherals to go with them.

Whats a Gamecube quality game? Because I think thats a good thing even though you mean it as a negative. Cubes had the best games of any console yet (quality over quantity) - and yes I have owned all the consoles, and I have given them all a fair chance and the cube has blowen them all away - totally making up for the utterly **** lineup the N64 had tenfold.
Look at rez4, those graphics are perfect for a game, and thats real-ish graphics, where ninty shine is in the more kind of Pikmin looking games, and look at Pikmin, might not have as many polygons but it looks absolutly fantastic, then theres Zelda WW, possibly the most beautiful game Ive ever seen (in action, not so much in screenies).
Like Ive always said, too much emphisis on power = growing cost (PS3 anyone?), longer dev time and higher end user costs.
PS3s like an SUV, Wii is like a bitching lil classic sooped up Mini Cooper.

I agree that graphics are very important and I believe that Wii will have good graphics as well as good gameplay. Are you guys going to be dissapointed if the Wii games have graphics similar to resident evil 4, or gameplay and realism similar to POP - sands of time?? You all saw the new zelda game... Are you dissapointed from what you've seen so far? Its all up to the developers. Good games can be made and Wii is a good platform that developers are familiar with (I guess it's like a gamecube upgrade). I think that we will see good games with good graphics and gameplay.

PS3s like an SUV, Wii is like a bitching lil classic sooped up Mini Cooper. Everyones different i Guess. I might change my mind but from what ive seen so far from the next gen consoles, at the moment the WII is a kite buggy and the PS3 is a Buggati Veyron.

I know the Kite buggy will be great fun for a day out but i know which id rather be taking home for the long haul.

All I know is that I grew bored of my consoles and sold all of the current gen ones with the exception of my gamecube (still have my genesis, dreamcast and snes). Maybe im just getting too old but the wii so far is the only one I find interesting of the next gen consoles. BTW its not like I dropped out of gaming all together I have a psp and a ds, just bought a dslite last week to go with them.
Parents are going to be what makes the wii successful, I would bet that the wii outsells both the ps3 and xbox360 this christmas if for no other reason but price. You have to remember that the bigger the install base the more 3rd party devs are going to hop on board as well. I wouldnt be shocked to see the wii end up winning it all in the long run, its generated a buzz, its innovative and its going to have a price tag that more parents are going to be willing to shell out money for. I have 3 kids of my own but I play alot of games myself, for me the wii is a no brainer. When I look at the other two there are a couple of nice games but nothing worth the price difference IMHO. As for features, I dont need a dvd player much less one that is going to make me have to replace my dvd collection. I have a feeling that the inclusion of blueray is going to end up being a big mistake on Sony's part, most people I know buy a game console to setup on a second tv in the house, not to be their primary entertainment source, and in general most 2nd tv's arent HD. Im sure there are lots of exceptions but those are mostly the hardcore gamers which are only a small fraction of gamers overall.
