View Full Version : Why People Hate Sony - Arrogance, Lies & Delays
TheInquirer (TI) are running an editorial titled 'Why People Hate Sony', perhaps they are a little angry because Sony quashed their rumours about the triangle set-up count being half of the 360's...but they say the reason why people hate Sony is becuase of their ego, arrogance, lies and delays. TI seem angry because of a comment made by David Reeves which said that Sony have built up a brand equity over the years, so much so that the PS3 would sell five million on launch even without games. Reeves thoughts correlate with our feature articled titled Editorial: Next-Gen Consoles to Go Pound For Pound – Part 1, and to be honest he was only speaking the truth but TI say that Sony have lost their shine and there is perhaps long-term trouble on the way.
"We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it [the PS3], whatever it is, even if it didn't have games." David Reeves, CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
It's just the arrogance of the statement, regardless of truth, that has a growing number of people seriously looking for any reason not to buy another Sony product. A real “love the product/hate the company” attitude is building.
Sony fans are jaded while marginal gamers and potential high-definition customers are taking a wait-and-see approach. Sony’s not listening to its fans because it doesn’t have to. A large number of gamers are resigned to the fact that their PS2 will remain their platform of choice for at least another 18 months. And why not, it’s cheap as hell and the games keep on coming.
Sadly, not enough people will know or care about Sony’s indiscretions to stop good, but not great, PS3 sales. The cattle will take their wallets and kids to PC World when the new Playstation hits because that’s what they have always done. But underneath the sales, all is not well in paradise. The Sony crown has lost its shine and the company’s shoddy treatment of customers and fans, coupled with its unhealthy fascination with copyright protection technology, spells long-term trouble on way.

another pathetic attack at Sony by a website aiming to increase their traffic through a contraversial article. That site is for IT news, why should freelance writers diverse into areas they know nothing about. Stick to what youre good at inquirer. Leave the Sony bashing to the experts at least.
Dumb article anyway, people may buy the PS3 because of brand loyalty, sony have pionered the modern day console with the playstation, they deserve this loyalty. And people may buy the PS3 just because this is the next playstation, but they will be buying a great console and they will not be dissapointed. They are not being had or tricked into buying the PS3, Sony cant force anyone to buy anything.
The Sony crown has lost its shine and the company’s shoddy treatment of customers and fans,
I personally dont feel ive recieved bad treatment from sony, I buy a playstation, the games and i play them.

Hmm... well, Sony are the ones trying to force all of the anti-piracy firmware updates, HDMI, Macrovision, etc. etc. etc. down our throats.
To hell with them.

What's the difference between egotism and arrogance?
The local Sony branch refuses to acknowledge a problem with their V series Bravia LCD TVs despite the fact that the _exact_ same models in the same range suffer a known problem that requires a firmware upgrade, which _is_ acknowledged by the Australian branch.
I'm also somewhat sick of Sonys (mainly Kutaragis' actually) BS. Pretty much every press release from them goes far beyond simple product over-hyping, but extends directly into the pure arrogance specified in the article. I like their products (I've got 2 high-end Sony TVs, their HDMI DVD player and used to have a PS2 and PSP) but I despise them as a company due primarily due to all their decisions to try & restrict consumer choice & freedom as much as possible. (HDCP, DRM and the like). The rare intstances when I've wanted support from them have all been completely futile as well, but that may just be a local issue.

but that gives no reason to hate them, it is illegal to have copied games/dvds.
lets put it this way your the head of sony ps3 are you just going to slap it up and sell it so it could esily be hacked and people wont need to buy ps3 games.
no you wouldnt, because youd loose to much money.
you obvoisly dont know much and you must already hate sony, its not forced on you, its covering all the companies including sony who are involved with the ps3 so the games have a higher chance of not been on the black market.

sony as a system isn't a problem, i like my ps2. Sony as a company however are arrogant. I don't agree with the approach or there vocal points this time round but it wont stop me from getting the system. If they would just stop talking and only coming out with news until launch that would be perfect. it would keep me looking for news and waiting til november anxiously, but everytime ken opens his mouth it makes me feel a little more distant about the system. I have faith in the system because of the developers of the games but sony makes me forget about them everytime.

well i personaly think these remarks are from nintendo or microsoft fans, same **** all the time they hate what they dont like, almost like religion and people die over the beliefs.
and sony have to be arrogant
1. Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance.
2. Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one's superiority toward
others: an arrogant contempt for the weak.
basically sony have to beleiver they are better, if they didnt how is anybody else suposed to?
at least theyre not like nintendo making a big fuss over a controller making people forget about the actual console, or saying you copied us, when in fact nintendo never invented what they claim, sony simply improved it.
if anything i think the Wii will be big in japan, but over hear it will only sell as a present to your kid or for nintendo fans, im going to get one but i doubt ill play it much as the fun of this superduper dog bollocks controller will get boring and think wtf id rather play my xbox.

I bet you wanted to say "implemented" ( 3D motion sensor >> tilt sensor )
I dont unerstand why people should hate sony, they are not forcing none to buy, and they are not making the games either. Things are simple like if you want to believe they are the best, , do it, or not ( at free will ) Also if you want to buy the console, is a personal choice, Sony is not forcing none to buy, so no reason to hate.:D The most they coudl do is an "agressive" marketing campain, but still is up to everyone to decide.

is this sarcasym.......as you usualy say exactly the opposite to what youve just said.
have you realised??? the Wii is simple cheap parts and nintendo have made you beleive its all super because your controller is like a light gun with a analouge peice attached???

No, is not sarcasm. And I never mentioned something about Nintendo , just quoted your post, because was wrong ( that part ). Sony as you wanted to say, implmented the technology , with its own tilt sensor, just that.
They didn't improve, is a different idea when you "improve" something, is to make something new over an existing concept, idea, hardware, software etc microsfot improved the Xbox , and amde X box360, so PS3 over PS2, and Wii over Cube, on different scales. To improve and to Implement.
About the sarcasm, about Sony? Is not, I don't hate Sony. I just don't buy when I don't like something, anything ( I have PS2, but i didn't like PSP, for example ). None is being forced to buy a console either, is a personal choice, if company is arrogant, let them be, if you don't liek the product you can't hate it, unless you are forced to us it. Like you could hate the doors on the metro station, you are paying for that, is your money, or your social security administration. You can't choose them on most cases. But poeple shoudln t hate Sony, jsut don't buy it, if you don't like it. Loosing time. buy a Xbox, a Wii, a PC, a Mitsubishi Tv and so on.
