EGM Wii Rumours - Devs Ditch PS3 In Favour Of Wii

The latest issue of EGM has some juicy gossip in their rumours section regarding the Wii. According to the <i>rumours</i>, many third party developers are ditching the PS3 in order to develop games for the Wii, this is due to the popularity of the console at E3 and the PS3's high price. The same section also says that Lucasarts are preparing an exclusive StarWars game which will take full use of the Wiimote in a game which focuses on lightsaber battles.

The latest issue of EGM contains a couple very juicy rumors in their rumor section. Take these with a smaller grain of salt then usual…EGM does have an ear very close to the ground.

The biggest rumor from EGM’s rumor section is that many third party developers are ditching their PS3 projects in favor of the Wii. This change can most likely be attributed to a combination of a strong Wii showing at E3, and the high pricepoint of the PS3.

LucasArts is hearing the cries of Wii fans everywhere. A rumored Star Wars game is coming to the Wii (exclusive), and lightsaber battles will be the main focus of the title.

Once again, these are just rumors for now…but two rumors that I would love to come true.

yeh probably but its froma nintedo fanboy website so may be bias, maybe all the crappy poor devs are going cause its too expensive to develop for ps3. Doesnt matter sonys good games have come from close connectsion e.g konami and S-E

I doubt that the PS3 is being dumped outright by any developer at this point, but I could see the Wii getting a lot more planned support. At less than half the price, for a system which gained the most attention at E3, with plenty of positive reports around its unique control scheme, for some likely great first party titles and even some non-Nintendo third party titles (like Call of Duty 3), a hit in graphics may not seem so bad. If graphics were the most important thing to gamers, the PS2 wouldn't have been selling so well over the past couple of years.

I really dont get the dig about Wii graphics, even if the graphics are only 25-50% better than the gamecube they will still be decent. The gamecubes graphics are way better than the ps2 and mostly on par with the xbox. Its all about gameplay and Nintendo has something innovative. Why do you think the DS outsells the PSP hand over fist? It certainly isnt graphics.

will not side with one console only as they are after your money, so they will make games for all consoles because they know they can make more money.

they might be the odd game only for that console and the Wii is going to have loads as porting that game over to ps3 or 360 wont work as its **** and porting a 360 or ps3 game to wii wont work as the wii cant handle it.

kinda odd to how Star Wars is confirmed for ps3 and 360, this is simply a git with no life who is gutted as Lucas has no plans to make one (yet) for the Wii and made up a star wars game and because he thinks it would be cool to use the controller for light sabre battles he says its actually going to happen.

FWIW, I wasn't being critical of the graphics in Nintendo's consoles. The Gamecube put the PS2 to shame in that department, and the graphics in the retail copies of Wii games will be much better than that. But Nintendo themselves have stated that they won't be trying to match the visuals of the 360 and the PS3, choosing to emphasize a cheaper price and a more intuitive selection of games. Like I said in the response immediately before yours, if graphics were all people cared about, the PS2 wouldn't have done as well.

I'm hoping that Nintendo will succeed with that approach. Even if they're going after a different segment of the console market, their actions and their successes will still dictate how Microsoft and Sony function.
