View Full Version : Nintendo Predicts Low Wii Losses
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced that he doesn't expect the Wii to incur huge losses as is normally the case with newly launched console hardware.
Iwata told a news conference in Tokyo, "It is a strange notion that a game console always leads to mounting losses in the beginning. We can't promise we won't even have a one yen loss, but we are not expecting an enormous loss."
By comparison, Sony has predicted an $884 million loss for its games division for the current fiscal year, due to the expensive cost of launching the PlayStation 3. Microsoft recently admitted that Xbox 360 spend was "higher than expected."

nintendo has never lossed money on hardware, the fact that there even gonna be making any kind of loss at all with this one shows that they have put more into graphics than usual if anything. Or maybe the tiny size is gonna be pricey.
Gamecube turned a profit even if minor on hardware sales. so this obviously isnt a gamecube crammed in a smaller case is it.

if it WAS a GC in a smaller case it would be for $149USD max and still make $70 profit lol
this is more than just a GC, nintendo like to downplay the specs and let the games speak for themselves.
for example they say it's similar to GC hardware, and then u see games and they look much nicer, so u are happy
as opposed to 360/PS3 that say it's similar to CGI graphics, and then u see games and they don't look as nice, so u feel let down
and i'm not 100% sure but i don't think the wii-mote, sd-card, built in WiFi, 24hr connect, and virtual console, SD card reader were built into the GC...
sometimes it's beyond simple MHz. This is something the slower people can't get beyond, as they have been brainwashed by Sony or MS to only look at polygons on screen, or "flops" or "triangles", as opposed to actually playing the game. You ever play a game and say "wow must be at least 200 million flops going on here? Of course not, but they tell you these numbers at first to get you excited, then when the system is launched you hear nothing of it until Xbox720 or PS4. Also remember numbers don't mean everything, it just provides more tricks and angles that manufacturers can play with to distract you from the real point.
**EDIT** just thought i would comment on this:

what i guess you are trying to say is *jamming* a gamecube in a new case, which is already not true as people know it's going to be 2-3X more powerful than a GC (these are actually realistic estimates, as opposed to saying 25X more powerful just based purely on numbers and it ends up being 4-5x better in the next 5 years). Also you seem to be a clairvoyant or "fortune teller" as you have seen ALL the wii games out there and they all look like Resident Evil 4. Do everyone a favor, research before you post comments, it will save you a lot of humiliation.

And about people "not wanting to write code " to GC because the disk size :) he, that s very poor comment, thing is contracts with companies involves marketing of games, and companies image, also involves rating on gamers. Most GC games try not to go on very high rating limits, remember Nintendo is a Toy company. Those are marketing stragegies, and Nintendo most live from mascots, and low Rating games, most games to PS2 or X-box are over 13+ or even 18+, what at the long run damage the competition for the under age market, which Nintendo already hold it.
If you analixe the size of games on Ps2, or X-box, they are around 2gb on average, because the video data only, and could be easily compressed to be smaller, also. Common, 2GB on code?? Are out there superhuman coders? or Quantum computers writing lines on their own... and worst testing!!???
