Speaking to trade paper MCV, Sony's European boss David Reeves said that to them market shre is not important but what is important to grow the industry as a whole. He has also commented that the much criticized PS3 controller has been in development for two and a half years and was not a last minute development.

"We've had a positive reaction to the controller and obviously some people have asked if it's a last minute thing," Sony's European boss, David Reeves, told trade paper MCV. "It's not - it's been planned for around two and a half years."

"If you have a device that includes 50 or 55 patents, you can't reveal it, as someone will try to file a patent to stop it. We have already had some positive feedback on it from publishers."

The caterwauling between Sony and Nintendo will probably go back and forth for a while still, but it misses Sony's prime goal for the next generation.

"The name of the game is not market share, it's how fast we can grow the industry - our ambition is to grow 15 per cent a year on hardware and software if we can," Reeves told MCV.

"We want to try and double digital entertainment in the next five to six years. Whether we have 40, 50, or 60 per cent market share is not that important."

Yeah, I think this is a load of old BS...they thought about this for 2 1/2 years? Yet they already abandoned the batarang controller recently, moving back to their old design, and lost the dual shock, in favour of dodgy gyroscopic motion sensing.

It's getting annoying how much the big heads are talking out of their behinds. Sony keep trying hard to rectify their E3 performance, the pricepoint of the PS3 and everything else, when theoretically, the specs and software were supposed to make this unit speak for itself. What a shambles...what a shambles...

Translation:

Sony: Holy crap, people are really getting hot over this Wii thing, and the 360 costs less and looks as good. If the Wii has more initial sales than us, we're screwed! Quick - launch the marketing department! To the poles!

Lol!

It's true tho... Sony thought they could ride their wave of fame and that all of us Sony believers from PS1/PS2 era are schmucks and we'd buy anything Sony comes out with.

So with that, I say, screw you sony for thinking we're all idiots.

Sounds like Sony already knows they are going to be the #3 console this time around. :p

There's a difference between thinking about it and actually researching it. Sony had been researching it for several years now. Meanwhile, Nintendo sneaked in and copied Sony's idea before Sony could reveal it.

You forgot to say you were kidding.

I find it incredulous that you say this, when the motion technology inside the PS3 controller is already very similar to the motion tech that has already been trialed in both the GAMEBOY and the microsoft sidewinder, at least 6 years ago. The Wii is far more advanced in this respect. Nobody has ever, managed depth of field in 3D space using a controller (e.g, moving in and out the screen) For several years of research, you'd also think Sony would have done something to secure their Dual Shock technology instead of side step it.

Sony makes me laugh, one thing after another for this company, as for Sony ripping off the nintendo idea they totally did. Game developers and companies were informed about the gameboy like motion of the dual shock two weeks before E3 that's why that gay warhawk demo was put together, Sony did this to try to take away the glory from Nintendo and steel their idea they figued people always side with our garbage playstation brand anyway we can get away with anything seeing how Nintendo has been on the down side of things as of late they figured they could make Nintendo look like fools, nice try it back fired big time and now they scramble and tell you BullS**T lies to cover for their stupidity. Sony products just keeping getting worse and worse psp is garbage ps2 has ugly looking graphics s**** sound these guys are finished as for that card battle thing they showed at e3 who the f*** wants this garbage.

PS you people need to stop calling Maxconsole the Sony flaming site
it's not their fault this system is such a joke take a look around you this is going to be a hell of a fall for sony they should stick to TV's.

yea and nintendos slightly improved xbox isnt.

yet next time arround if nintendo are still here they will blame the Wii for **** like they are the GC.

also id like to point out that the Wii controller is just like a light gun, you move it on your screen click to shoot, just theyve made it where the game that isnt a fps to have say hot spots, if you point and click at it, it will do something instead of fire your gun.

motion sensor was invented way before nintnedo did that GB thing, i remember a 3rd party sensor pad i had for the n64

actually take it back further, you might remember something called the power glove. come on you know you saw the wizard. That is the first thing i remember as motion sensing in a sense. Hell i may be wrong just the first thing that I remember.

The Nintendo Wii has a full range of motion which has never been seen before just take a look at the Wii videos of people playing it from E3. These devices you have metioned above do not have full range of motion the Wii does, this is a totally new approch besides as more devlopers get their hands on the Wii the more jump ship Nintendo and Microsoft will pervail, didn't you hear Sony have yet again lied their RSX will be a flop they can't even get it to work properly the make all of these promises and have not delivered on one of them as they say "were not about cutting corners" that's exactly what their doing haha I love it Sony is such garbage.
