View Full Version : PS3 online still "hazy", claim MS execs
Surprise surprise guys, more bashing from top executives in this industry. If this was a boxing match, we'd be far into round 50, with Sony honorably taking the blows just as Homer Simpson did in his fight with Drederick Tatum. According to European Xbox boss, he is absolutely flattered by Sony's take a path similar to that of Xbox live for their PS3 online service. He refers to this is plagiarism and says that Microsoft have known what the market has wanted all along...

Keep dishing out the blows, somehow we think Sony will remain standing unlike Homer J.

Sony used its pre-E3 media briefing to provide the most detailed demonstration yet of its next-gen system's planned online functionality. But Microsoft, which is now in the second generation of its successful Live service, has dismissed PS3 simply as playing catch up in this area by including features already established on Xbox.
"I'm flattered that they've followed our clear direction," Chris Lewis told Eurogamer TV, in the second part of an exclusive interview broadcast today. "Plagiarism is a good thing - that in itself isn't such a problem, it's what the market wants. But we've known that's what the market wanted all along."
"It's good to see them catching up in that regard," he noted. "I think the service is still hazy in my view in terms of how it's really going to work for the consumer - how the pricing is going to work still to me seems very unclear."

Who cares? Mud slinging is going to happen in any major arena these days, it's almost a prerequisit to big business, politics, sports ...
Everyone is going to form their own opinions, and fanning the hype machine isn't going to really DO anything. I personally would rather read about stuff like upcomming games, scene Dev news, etc.
If Sony was worried about image, they wouldn't have put together such a blatent "Me Too!" system. *shrug*

I think its a bit rich. Its not as if they invented network gaming.
Im not sure about this playing catch up business, the network gaming services are not in direct competition after all. If you bought a xbox 360 you will use live, if you buy a PS3 you will connect to Sonys network gaming service. So im not sure why they even feel the need to comment on it.
Sony should be flattered because if they really thought the console and its services werent going to be popular, they wouldnt spend so much time telling us how rubbish they will be.
I wish all these big wigs would keep their traps shut until theyve got something interesting to say.

LOL, great entertainment for all us board junkies reading this.
sony just dont have anything to fight back with, like, M$ says, "hey sony you stole our idea for xbox live" and sony if they did respond would be somthing like "we never stole the idea of xbox live, just because its exactly the same it says sony on it so that proves its ours" and nintendo would say "you stole our motion sensor idea as wall as many others in the past" and sony would say "nope, those have our name on them to"
last ?, "hey sony do you ever come up with your own original ideas" and sony says, "no because we would have to pay ppl for that and nintendo and M$ do that for us free, we did just get the tilt sensors in the controller 2 weeks before e3, had to have something to put n there since we cant use rumble anymore"
hehe, sony bashing is kinda fun, hehe

Actually the camera for the original xbox was announced before sony announced theirs, just that it never came out for the xbox. Also, technically, there were many webcams on the market for pcs that do everything the eyetoy does and more long before sony did theirs.

Shut up already MS, Ur making urslef look like dicks when u make comments like that. U didnt invent the damn internet. all u did was make a system that chraged ppl to use there own bandwith to play online (do u provide central servers for games). I used to pay 50 bucs for a game and the company would use those profits to provide a service, like the PC. I find that much better. well I still do actually, I only have to pay valve for the game, and they provide a service for buying the game. (not as broad as live I know, but a little more flexible).
If Sony didnt have some sort of online service MS would be saying that they dont have a chance cause they dont know what customers want, if they do have it then they say they are copying. Get over it, Microsoft copyied more than anyone.
I played many sega sports games online on Dreamcast. Only I didnt have to pay extra to do it. And it was an extremely smooth experiance even back then.
In fact sega even tried to come out with a live like service for genesis back in the day, It was gonna be a cable channel that somehow plugged into ur genesis and u would basically have on-demand genesis (I think it reached some test markets). These ideas have always been around. Its just the demand and technology are finally starting to take shape enough to implement and use them effectively, anyone who doesent take shape will be left behind.
edit:maybe a mod can fix this, I dont know how I quadrupal posted. srry

you are exactly right. if microsoft would not be frightened to see that everybodys console has more to offer than theirs they would just lean back and enjoy the show, watching everybody going down. that that just isnt the truth.
everybody who is interested in the 360 has bought it by now. everybody else is wating for nintendo and sony and i dont think that all those mumbling will change anybodys mind. consumers dont care who steals which idea from whom, they just care whether this function is implemented or not.
