View Full Version : What Sony Cut from the PS3 - A Reminder Of What Was Promised..
A video has been uploaded to the web which reminds us what Sony originally aimed to bring to the PS3, 2 HDMI outputs but now has just one, WiFi is not a standard feature, and bluetooth support for up to 7 wireless controllers was promised but that is down to just four...

Amazing video! =)
Sony is a bunch of liars. Not that I don't think people/companies don't have a right to change their minds. But for them to promise so many things and then turn around not include them at all is a blatant lie.
E3 for Sony was a joke. They are liars with a high price tag and no rumble.

This is not the only time $ony promised something but didn't lived up to their words. I remember back in 1999/2000 E3 when $ony said PS2 will have the greatest online community where people can able to do everything from music, movies, shopping, online banking, and of course play games. They even showed off GT demo showing how people can able play online. Sadly not a single thing happened. Not even the last year released GT4 had online play.
Same goes with their "Linux homebrew kit" promising how homebrew scene will be contributing and making games and bunch of other BS. Same goes with PS1 back in 1997 where showed off Net Yuroze, some kind of black, beefed up PS1 that had development environment built in.
On the other hand M$ showed up from no where and they own the online community and kept every promised they made.

All the Sony's lies are part of their "strategy" to confuse and misguide their compition. That way M$ will spend millions of dollars re-thinking their hardware and strategy so it will be a costly war for them. They know that only few people like our selves remember everything and average Joe only looks for the "Sony label" before making the purchasing decision.
Think of this whole thing similar to cold war where America was screwing with Russian head by purposely leaking "alien stories" such as the Roosevelt incident. That way Russia spends insane amount of money and resources in finding aliens that don't exist.

lol "This video sponsored by Microsoft"
honestly people complain about not having 2 HDMI outputs, when no other console has 1.
people complain about "high price" for a system that has a blu-ray drive built into it.
people complain about sony "stealing" other companies technology, as if no other company in the world uses other ideas.
the point: don't be pissed off at Sony just because you know it's gonna dominate. Dont look at what they aren't giving, look at what they ARE giving.
There is no point in trying the whole "this company sucks" or "the game system i like the most is the best" idea because no one cares for it.
that video was made by a Microsoft or Nintendo fanboy that wanted some attention. For all Sony isn't giving, it's 1% of what they ARE giving.
It will still look amazing, have amazing games, and have a very good online community (maybe not as great as Xbox Live, but still very good!).
And I think that's what pisses the fanboys off the most...

Bluray always gets mentioned when price pops up. The fact is that no one really wants bluray or hd dvd, and even ppl that are interested in it aren't interested enough to buy first gen hardware. Ms gives you a choice, if you want next gen dvd movies you can buy an inexpensive addon (for movies only), but with sony you are FORCED into using bluray, so wether you want the drive or not, you are paying for it. Thats the main difference between ms and sony. Ms gives you choices on what you want on your console and only forces you into buying whats needed to play games, where as sony forces you to buy everything wether you want it or not and inflates the price accordingly.

I remember when DVD was expensive and no one at all had it in my work place. Everyone was ok with VHS. And the quality difference was pretty huge between VHS and DVD. Once the players got down to the $150 range some of us had one. At the $100 most of us had one. And by the time you could get them for $50-60 everyone had one. I guess if we had someone at my work that had lots of money they would have bought a dvd player for $500+ , but no one cared enough.
Blueray isn't as big of a jump as VHS to DVD and most people aren't going to mortgage their house for it either.
I know this is off topic a little I just wanted to respond to AceMilo.

If they included all of what they originally planed the system would probably have been way more then $600.

im really kinda dissapointed in the next gen BR, HDDVD stuff. i like BR because of the size of the disks but HDDVD for every other reason. so i dont want either till they are around $100-150 and its more main stream. sony are forcing blue ray on everyone that nuys ps2 hoping that it will make more ppl buy $30 BR disks to watch movies on when the quality wont really be that much better on most ppls tv's. if you have a $10,000 tv then maybe you should buy the $600 ps3 for BR, everyone else should be fine with dvd for 4-5 more years.
i just keep thinking, i had 2 ps2's die on me before i modded my 3rd right after the DMS3 chip came out(v7 days) then when that died i got the one i have now(slim ps2w/dms4). how many ppl will be able to buy that many ps3's if the first gen ps3's are as bad as most of the first gen ps2's, even the psp had problems. its like sony cant release crap that wont break. thats why im not a sony fan anymore, ill still get ps3 but not when its $600 and wont ever really look that much better.
also, it was pointed out earlier that sony promised homebrew ect with the ps2 linux and there prob doing the same thing this time.
imagine the cool homebrew stuff we could have if say M$ said, "ok heres a dev kit for $xxx.yy" then let ppl d/l stuff from live for minimal fee's and cut the dev's in on some of the$$ just imagine what ppl that do homebrew for free would do if they got paid also!! i wouldent have any prob paying $20 for xbmc360 at all.
thats my 3 cents, next....

The only good thing they got rid of was that 7 controler thingy, 4 is enough. 7 is just stupid.

What the hell is wrong with everyone and dissing the PS3?? I honestly care more about the Wii by alot but come on this is just blantant bullshit. Sure it doesnt have two HDMI outputs but why would you ever need two HDMI outputs. Sure it doesnt support 7 controllers but how often would you ever use 7 controllers? And it only has one ethernet port wtf was the other two ever going to be used for. Something is serisouly wrong with you motherfuckers

There is always the highly unmentioned third option anyway (that doesnt cater to the media hype that is "console war" - which in my opinion is the "marketeers" basically just trying to get the hold off purchasers to put their money down sooner) pay M$ anyway for a gaming machine, buy a windoze PC with a high end gfx card that could output hi def (or at least something your hi-def display can show nicely) and tell bluray and HD DVD to stuff it until it isnt only about DRM.

This is something that made me think about the upcoming ps3. Sure it'll be good, but not as great as the hype would lead you to believe. I can't justitfy that kind of a price tag. For that much I might as well get a Neo Geo cabinet off of Ebay.
When the price drops they'll see more people picking it up, as for blu ray it'd be a good storage capacity when it's cheap and the cost of media is cheap as well like DVD's are now, but as it stands there isn't really a need for it right now. HD-DVD would seem like the logical jump because of cost vs. what it'll do. Only technophiles care about having something that displays in something where you can barely see the difference. Most people don't look for that they look at cost first.
Also I wonder what the cost would be when 3rd parties start manufacturing blu ray players at a cheaper price than the ps3, is there some kind of exclusize deal going on to prevent them from undercutting sony's gaming console?

No one will undercut sony right now because it costs a lot more to make a bluray player than sony is charging. Sony loses money on every console sold just like ms and make it back up on the games. If bluray/hd ddvd player makers did this they would be out of business. No one is going to buy a next gen dvd player until they are under 150-200 for a standalone player regardless.
