My original Xbox 360 which was crashing a lot has just been replaced with a new 360 and now I have extended the warranty for 1 year to ensure that in case the 360 keeps freezing again in the future, I would have the right to get it fixed. So the reason why I don't want to do this is the warranty. If there is only a way to not void the warranty, I would have done this since the hacked firmware came out. I think Microsoft really is smart, releasing a rushed problematic console so that people like me who has problematic consoles wouldn't want to try and open the console. Smartasses...

And just out of curiousity. After you've flashed the firmware hack...can you really revert back to the original firmware and still play Xbox live? anyone tried this yet?

Yes you can. Also you can get into the console without making it visible. All you need is a hair dryer.....

for the 360 i just used a lighter and a hot razor blade, not to hot u cant hold but hot enuf you can slide it under the M$ sticker easly w/o melting it. its kinda like taking the sticker off a ps2.

The main disadvantages of the DVD hack are the following:

-No homebrew
-Risk of being banned of Xbox live!
-Only offline play (online play works atm, don't know how long it takes before M$ starts to detect is (shouldn't be long I think))
-Easily detectable and if games automatically update the dashboard you can't even play backups offline in the future.
-Only for the samsung drive (atm)
-You have to use expensive DVD+R DL (atm)

The waranty voiding only applies for you, most of the x360's will run fine their whole lifetime.

There are many peoply who do not want to void their warranty, it's not just me. I doubt most 360's would run the whole lifetime, the system itself is very faulty at least in this early 360 versions.

iv had two from uk release and a total of 9 of my m8s got theres at the same time only one of them has had probs so i guess 1 out of 11 isnt that bad considering iv been through 4 PS2's lol (funny thing my original JAP ones still going "MADE IN JAPAN" i guess)
