Download the following package with usbhostfs/usbhostfs_pc compiled for psp and win32:

http://rapidshare.de/files/20750858/usbhostfs_bin.rar.html

Note: usbhostfs/psplink is released under the bsd license, and i'm not affiliated with their authors. If something go wrong while using dax ziso with their files, don't disturb them.

Also, from this page:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=78138

locate and download the file libusb-win32-device-bin-0.1.10.1.tar.gz

Extract both of them to, for example, usbhostfs_bin and libusb-win32-device-bin.

Copy the file usbhostfs.prx from usbhostfs_bin/usbhostfs_psp to ms0:/DAXZISO.

Open the daxziso.ini file, and locate the entry "[HOST]", and change the following:
driver = null changes to
driver = "ms0:/DAXZISO/usbhostfs.prx"

name = null changes to
name = "USBHostFSDriver"

And the type = USB, leave it as it is.
Save the file.

With the psp connected to the usb, open daxziso. Windows will detect a new driver, ignore it by now and DO NOTHING. Open the file inf-wizard.exe located in libusb-win32-device-bin-0.1.10.1\bin.
Choose PSP Type B, and click next, and again next. It will ask you where to save a inf file. Save it in the same directory (libusb-win32-device-bin-0.1.10.1\bin) with the name "psp.inf".
Now, in the windows driver dialog that you have previously ignored, choose manual installation and locate the directory libusb-win32-device-bin-0.1.10.1\bin. Windows will install the drivers. Exit daxziso.

In the folder usbhostfs_bin/usbhostfs_pc create a folder called ISO and put inside you iso or dax files (note: put it a name you can distinguish, because dax ziso will list both, files from memstick and files from computer).
Note: some people have reported to me that by unknown reasons, there is more chances of the iso working if you put one of the last letters like "v", "t", etc before the name: for example, Nba.iso -> vNba.iso. or tNba, etc :eek:
I know, it sounds weird, but if the file starts with one letter from r to z, it has more chances to work, and it's confirmed by me and other people.

Now, open the usbhostfs_pc.exe and if the firewall asks you to give it permission, do it (it's only local connections). Now open again daxziso with the usb cable, and select the iso of your pc that you want to play, and configure it with one of the methods "Direct Load", "MPHGL Direct" or "RUNUMD Direct" (the rest of others won't work at the moment).

Now, you should be playing the iso of your pc!! Note: in some cases, the real UMD is loaded instead. This may be becasue of driver inestability, this will happen with some isos and won't happen with others.

IMPORTANT: When you are not gonna use the usb thing, edit again the daxziso.ini file, and put again driver = null, since having the usbhostfs.prx loaded may decrease the compatibility of modes MPHGL Direct, Direct Load and RUNUMD Direct.

I hope i haven't forgotten nothing since the first time i installed usbhostfs with psplink was far ago.

GREAT WORK

I tried some other guys first (as it was the most bumped one)

Then i saw this one, and it literally took me 2 mins to get working it helped so much:D

Hey Dark_Alex,

great work about this game via usb with daxziso..im gonna try it..keep up the good work :P..i hope in the next version we can use the same method with Wifi...just one suggestion about the daxziso.ini file...i know that if we dont use the usb connection to play the game(s), we must edit the ini file as it was originally..so im wondering..if in the next version(s) u can create 2 ini files..one called daxziso.ini and the other maybe daxzisousb.ini...and the usb one is already modified..and u modify daxziso so we can switch between the 2files depending on if we want to play the game from the usb/pc or from the ms...like..a new option under the allocate ram one..that let us load one of the 2 ini files...so we dont need to edit each time by ourself :)..just a thought :D

anyway, the loader still rocks!! :cool:

I have installed the driver... and the folder daxiso was overwrited. i launch USBHOSTFs and then i launch DAXISO but it crashes... (blank screen), or when i load first daxiso and then usbhostfs, go to option and return to refresh the list of iso... daxiso crash again (no iso is added in the list.. )

what's wrong? i have put 2 isos (1 dax and 1 iso), 1 iso was in the memory stick too.

:confused: :confused:

daxiso is 0.62 version

Does it work with the [http://www.supermediastore.com/apacer-share-steno-cd311-with-40gb-5400rpm-notebook-hard-drive.html]Apacer Share Steno[/url]?

The Apacer acts as a computer (master), and it would be so awesome if it did work :rolleyes: . Wishful thinking?

I don't think so. You need to install drivers on PC for it to work, and you can't install them on sometihing that isn't a PC :).

Let me just say this is fantastic Dark_AleX - I love it!

I thought I'd let people know this if they don't already. One thing I have discovered while testing a few games is that when you are playing a game via USB you can no longer use the wifi capabilities. By this I mean games like Burnout Legends where you were able to play mulitplayer in normal DAX. When you are playing via USB, as soon as you enable multiplayer the USB is disconnected.

Ok a lot of people seem to be slightly concerned about replacing a system file, cygwin1.dll so i thought i would let people know that you do not have to put it in the system32 folder.

Providing the libusb/PSP Type B driver is installed and you put the cygwin1.dll in the same folder as the usbhostfs_pc.exe file on your pc the program will run fine.

Hey all. I have linked my entire iso directory on my pc to the folder for playing games by usb.
I can't see all the games on the Dax menu screen, is there a way to scroll. Also, when I quite a game, I get "the game could not be loaded" error. I pop the umd and it's gone, but is there a bypass to this?
Thanks

got to say a massive thanks to DARK_ALEX for coming up with this and to DragonUK for his input,as after a few good hours through last night(in fact all night here in the UK) I managed to make a really simple way of running my games from either hard drive,virtual drive or DVD,I just put into action dragonuk's instructions and then decided to to put the contents from the
USBHOST_PCSERVER folder onto a disc and fill the iso folder with my games and created a custom shortcut to usbhostfs_pc and it works like a charm so cheers guys..

So everytime I want to switch between playing games off of USB and games off of my memory stick.. I have to change this .ini file?

Fair enough.. :rolleyes:

I organised my games this way (maybe won't suit you :p):

-I kept all my previous .ini in daxziso folder.
-Each game stored in HDD to be booted by USB is given a V in front of the name, regardless of the need for it in compatibility.
-I delete the V for each game transferred to MS.

This way I have 2 .ini per game, which I think is the most convenient, because deleting a letter from time to time is not much an effort ;)

After reading the how-to and getting everything setup it does not work.. Let me explain.

1. I have the PSP B drivers install and working. "UMD DAX Dumper Beta 0.2 Using USB to Dump works Perfect".

2. Here is my ini for DAXZISO and i placed the usbhostfs.prx in the same folder as the ini.

# The driver prx
driver = ms0:/DAXZISO/usbhostfs.prx

# Name of driver (required for usb)
name = USBHostFSDriver

# Type of driver. USB or WIFI (WIFI not yet supported)
type = USB

3. I made the ISO folder in the usbhostfs_pc folder "same place UMD DAX Dumper stores the UMD Rips". and there is 2 ISO's and 2 DAX files in there.

4. I start the usbhostfs_pc.exe

5. I start DAXZISO and it loads to the main menu and only gives me the option to load the UMD i have inserted.

I did try going to thge option screen and then backing out to refresh the ISO list but nothing happens. just the same as before...
Anyone got a idea ??? did i just miss something ??
BTW I'm using XP Pro SP2

Thanks

apcarr
06-11-2006, 09:55 AM
first make sure usbhostfs.prx is in the DAXZISO folder on your PSP and then you need PC_DRIVER as well as USBHOST_PCSERVER, HERE http://www.megaupload.com/?d=43TS47IJ put them somewhere on your pc it doesnt matter where, stick the other 2 in your DAXZISO folder just to make sure then put your iso's in the iso folder in USBHOST_PCSERVER folder and start usbhostfs_pc.exe, then start DAXZISO if it doesnt see the iso's leave everything open and goto device manager and see if you can see libUSB_win32 devices+PSP TYPE B DRIVER, if its there right click it and uninstall the PSP TYPE B DRIVER,then start DAXZISO again and it will then say found new device and you just select to install automatically,it should then work...

06-11-2006, 10:25 AM
Thanks apcarr i figured out what it was... It was the INI after all..
I had everything right but i had forgot to add the " before and after

mine was like this
# The driver prx
driver = ms0:/DAXZISO/usbhostfs.prx

and needed to be like this
# The driver prx
driver = "ms0:/DAXZISO/usbhostfs.prx"

Well now it works thanks !! ;)

forgive me if this is a dumb question (coz i'm a noob :p ), but does this bring us any closer to runnin iso's off an ipod? ...if thats not been done already!
or does the storage device hafta run the usbhosts executable for comms with psp?
i've seen the external drives for psp. so why cant we use our ipods as storage for the psp through usb? :confused:

Technically, USBHost should work with any linux device that has a host port, such as a Asus WL500G Premium, but you'll have to compile usbhostfs_pc for it.

There IS a working linux port over to the iPod, but I don't think the iPod's USB controller supports host mode.

Seems to me, a asus WL700gE would be the best mate of my PSP, providing wifi and ISO over USB... Http://wl700g.info

Anything with a host port that can run linux should be able to have a copy of USBHostFS compiled for it...

Basicallly, any device that runs linux, and you can plug something like an External Harddrive, webcam, ETC, into should work with proper configuration.

Plenty of devices like this out there, you just have to find 'em. (and pay for them -- but a WL700gE for $200 which comes with a 160GB harddrive, is a hell of a lot cheaper than a 4GB memory adapter for the PSP like Datel's. ;) )

Edit: This should also work on OSX if someone has ported libusb over, as OSX is unix based and most linux code compiles relatively cleanly on it.

Edit2: Here's a ported Universal binary for OSX for libusb.
http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/

Someone should be able to get this working now. :D

Hello.
I followed the tutorial to the letter and i have a weird issue.
In the USBHostFS screen, i have this message when i start Dax on the psp :
USBHostFS (c) TyRaNiD 2k6
Connected to device
Error, invalid magic 4F53492F

Any ideas why ?
Also, when i need to create the inf file, what does "select psp type b" means ?
I didn't see anything like that when i had to select a usb device.

In Dax USB Loader 0.62 there is only three options that are working for the USB Loader, Direct Load, Runumd Load and MPHG Direct Load. Of those three loaders the most working one is the Runumd Direct Load. So try using that when you boot a game .

The settings depends on which game your playing, lets say if your gonna boot Ridge Racer direct loader works fine.

Here is a site where you can read the compibility list for the USB loader.

Have you installed the program correctly? Does the game appear on Dax USB Loader before you load the game? What game are you trying to load?

i believe i installed it correctly. the game does appear on dax b4 i load the game. i tried to load death jr., exit, coded arms, dead to rights, and apeacademy. what i do is i change the settings press x then go back to the games and choose the game i want to play then it just turns blank/black when i start it. all my games are in .iso (and yes i own them) i also tried it in dax format but still didn't work. can someone give me ALL the files that is needed inorder for this to work, i would appreciate that. i think i probly did something wrong.

Try this.

Coded Arms work with Direct load. So when you are in the dax menu go to the Coded Arms game and press the square button and choose the Direct load and start the game. It should work.

alright, i've been trying to get this to work all day and finally got it up and running. my only problem is that games such as megaman powered up and maverick hunter (2.5 +) games can't seem to run. my lumines and wipeout pure seem to work fine, because im guessing of the lower firmware requirements? my question is how do you get the higher version games to load (instead of getting a blank black screen)

Update: A bad motherboard chipset layout can prevent this from working correctly. If you are using USB ports that are built into your motherboard and it is showing the games but not loading them it's probably what the problem is. I CAN confirm this.

Ok, so, doesn't that link back to the driver's fault for not correctly driving the USB Ports?

there is definatley a software issue somewhere (I think it may even be the timestamps of the files)

Anyway is was working flawlessly on my ASUS mobo for a week or 2. so happy with it I dint install the new devhook at first. when I did decide to install devhook firmware launcher It was beautiful and worked great. However when I went back to use dax usb, the games now hang at a black screen. If its a runumd required game then it runs runumd and hangs at the black screen. I get no errors in usbhostfs and even unistalled and reinstalled many times with different ports etc. A small security patch for windows xp also was installed sometime between the time it stopped working.

Im not sure if either of those two things caused the program to break but it is very frustrating seeing as if it is a hardware issue. It was certainley working before so can certainley be resolved by software. I have a wierd hunch though IT may have to do with the what files were put on the memstick first. (but i really doubt that actually).

Either way the bottome line is it was working for me for a long time, now it just lists the directory like everyone else, and as soon as it tries to actually access any file it hangs.

Actually, with my motherboard it won't boot some media (yeah, not the drive, the mobo..wierd eh?). Also capping out the onboard wirelss card causes hard reset of the computer. So it's definatly chipset issues. If I got a USB 2.0 PCI card it would probably work.

So after downloading and installing the usbhostfs and libusb-win32-device-bin-0.1.10.1.tar.gz files from the dark_alex tutorial (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=20414), I now see little white letters in the upper left corner that say "LOADING..." when I try to load ISOs via USB from pc. They tease me for about 30 seconds, and then the PSP shuts off.
This was better than I was doing with the DAXZISO pack version, that would quit with an error 53- can not find file- when I tried to tell it where my ISO folder was- but I think that may be because cygwin.dll was not there also. (Silly me, I moved it to system32)
The upshot is, still not loading ISOs via USB. So it's either a black screen, or a loading screen that is followed by a system shutdown.
Thoughts?

I noticed if I dont have the starting letter at the end of the alphabet it always loads UMD but If I have a letter at start of filename all works fine, I have got all my files on PC names ziso-- at the start so they 1> boot and 2> determine in list which is on mem stick

Also to help distinguish the mem stick I create a blank text document on my computer in the ISO folder and give the following filename

ziso----------------------------------------------------------

The filename is so long that dax cant fit it on the screen so it leaves an empty space...handy for a separater between mem stick and usb images :D

Hey I'm trying to load Silent Hill Experience through DAXZISO. I have the usb connection working fine. I keep my silent hill exp.dax iso here (Mycomputer\DAXZISO_062\usbhostfs\usbhostfs_pc\ISO ). I fire up DAXZISO with my PSP and it loads just fine. Then I see Silent Hill Experience.dax file. I click the the square button to configure how to run the iso file..

This is the part I'm stuck at. I can't get it to run. Either I get black screen or the PSP halts. But if I pick let's say,

"UMD Emulator" in the emulation mode I get this black screen with yellow/white/green letters. On the bottom it says: "Press x to start emulation". I try that and I automatic load the UMD drive, not the ISO.

Most other emulation modes go out with black screen or the PSP halts.

I can Run DAX ZISO perfectly, and my pc alerts me that PSP Type B has been connected.

However when the usbhostfs_pc.exe application is launched it will state

USBHostFS (c) TyRaNiD 2k6
Connected to device
Error, invalid magic 4F53492F

I just don't understand this, I have done everything to exact specifications.

On a side note...
When I launch UMD DAX Dumper Beta 0.2, it doesn't even alert my pc that a PSP Type B device has been connected, but the DAX ZISO Homebrew did.

The DAX ZISO Homebrew had the DAXZISO.INI file which Configures the settings to instruct the PSP to connect to the PC a a PSP Type B device.

UMD DAX Dumper Beta 0.2 has no such file that I have seen to specify the execution of the usbhostfs.prx file.

Has anybody else had either of these problems, and if so - Then what did you do to resolve them?

Thanks a bunch in advance!

I have tried and got this to work on 3 out of 5 games i tried so far.

weird thing... earlier i had to use RUNUMD Direct to get games to run
now later on itwont work, but Direct Load works on the games.

why would it switch like that?

i also did notice, the v or t or z or stuff before the iso name, like.....
vNamco.iso, versus just namco.iso works.

weird but it does help make some iso's boot. try different latters
i have best luck with t, v ad z... anyone know ahy this is?

its awesome to finally boot games over USB, on my laptop.

hi im having a similar problem, i couldnt figure out how to connetct type B device the way this tutorial did so i downloaded "psp type B install driver" and installed it that way.
but DAX zISO dosent seem to connect to the type B device. i kno it definately works as if i open devhook and usbhostfs-pc/iso i can view my iso's from my laptop on the devhook umd selection screen on my psp and even select them but obviously can not load them as usb connection resets when starting to emulate 2.71.
but i cant think why dax wont rcognise it, ive gone back into the .ini file and made sure i have quotations round the text but still no luck.
its like when dax is running it can not detect that the data cable is connected

1. If you are having a problem with the psp b saving (system crashes) Cyber skunk posted a link for a psp installer on the 2 or 3rd page of this thread that worked for me.

2. I was having prob with it launching the umd when I selected the games from the harddrive. Either that or I would get the blank screen. I put a letter (z) in front of it and now I get the blank screen on all those that launched the umd instead of trying to launch the game.

3. Now im stuck on just the blank screen. Havnt got any to work yet.

Hope this helps some of you out there.

It works Perfectly, Thank You very much, Dark_Alex.

I have one question: Is there any chance to see one day a version allowing to mount UMD ISOs using the WiFi connection ? maybe something like streaming a UMD (like in PiMP) ?? I may be dreaming, but that would allow the modified PSP to be a truly portable playstation.

Hi im trying to run Gangs Of London via usb on my psp. I run USBHostFS on my pc & get the following screen.

USBHostFS (c) TyRaNiD 2k6
Connected to device

When I load daxiso on my psp the filename is there so i think ive got the driver & dirs ok. But when i try to load the iso or any other iso the psp screen goes black my hdd on my pc flashes for about 5-10 seconds and then nothing. The isos work from my memstick (those that fit) fine. Ive tried renaming the iso and inserting a z or an s or somthing before the filename AS Ive read somwhere this helps (so gangsoflon.cso becomes vgangsoflon.cso) but still it wont work. Can u plz tell me where im goin wrong many thanx.

Open the daxziso.ini file, and locate the entry "[HOST]", and change the following:
driver = null changes to
driver = "ms0:/DAXZISO/usbhostfs.prx"

name = null changes to
name = "USBHostFSDriver"

And the type = USB, leave it as it is.
Save the file.

With the psp connected to the usb, open daxziso. Windows will detect a new driver, ignore it by now and DO NOTHING.

Can anyone explain this to me one more time?
I made a copy in the daxziso folder on my psp of daxziso.ini and usbhostfs.prx , i then edited the daxziso.ini file and saved it, and then open the file again.. All that happens is that i can edit the file again.. There is no PSP type b popping up in my computer.
What did i do wrong? or is it me thats just plain stupid?:)

first of all, thanks for this great forum and help u r giving with all these tuts.
:)
My problem. I´m running Daxziso 0.46 and it only works fine with one game tiger woods 06. All the other iso´s I´ve tried give me a blank screen on my PSP. If I want to change tho options of loading, its the same blank black screen. Is runumd or Mphloader in Daxziso implemented, or have I install it seperadly? I´ve also Devhook 0.46 on my MS. Can this bring Problems to launch the Iso´s??? :confused:

I´ve tried different start letters like v, t, z. Its all the same. The iso´s I tried and won´t work, are e.g. Midnight club Dub ed., T R Legends, Crash Tag Team Racing, and 007 FRWL.
If someone suggests any idea, it would be great.

thanks

PS: Tiger woods also doesnt start with some UMD in the drive. Like NFSMW won´t work, NBA does. Can it depend on the inserted UMD???

Hi, thanks for this awesome piece of software, now I just need to get this to work for me too.

I have followed the instructions as far as to start DAXZISO with the USB cable connected, the PSP Logo plays, freezes while the MS loading light flashes twice quickly, and a few seconds later my PSP is off. I have even installed the Type B Driver that Cyberskunk linked to, thanks for that.
Is there anything else I have to look out for? I have no UMD in the drive, I'm using XP and the PSP is running 2.71SE-B'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
