TOTAL NEWBIE [plz help]

i have 4 days until my birthday and im gonna get a psp. IDK anything about modding a psp. I want a psp that has a gba emulator so i can play pokemon and a good mp3, avi, and mpg player. does the psp alreadyw rok with this? i hate scandisk because its so expensive. can i store stuff on the actual psp or do i have to buy a good scandisk? god i fuckin hate scandisk. well ty

First off, there is no GBA emulator that runs at full speed (they run about 5fps...)...so that won't work very well. Second, you have ot buy a memory card, and SANdisk is a VERY good brand.

Lastly, if you want to run mods, make sure you are getting a downgradable PSP, you can watch the box codes as listed here:

If you get a F or lower it SHOULD be a 2.0 and downgradable, but they are becoming harder and harder to find.

i need to know how to play backups on psp because im "getting gta, midnight club, dragonballz, and nfsu rivals" and my friend wants them 2. how would i run them from my scandisk because im getting a 1gb one and they can fit (not all of them, only like 2) and would i have to have a downgradable one for playing backups? ty

edit : btw, i dont and wont have any playable games for the psp so can i still mod it? i cant do any save game exploits. ty

wow, thank you, i would have f-ed up real bad if u didnt tell me that. ty for even looking it up in that store! :) ok, once i have the 1gb scandisk, how do i install a mod or something to boot backups?

Just make surethe PSP you are getting is downgradeable, look at hte "box code" link I posted, follow that when buying your PSP and as long as your PSP has firmware 2.0 or lower (2.01 or above CANNOT downgrade), you will be able to downgrade and run homebrew and your game backups. I plan to write a tutorial on the downgrading, but the FAQ should handle it, just post back here if you want a detailed tutorial after you get your downgradeable PSP.

EDIT : i was reading the forums at qj.net and it says that all versions except 2.70 can run hombrew but 2.01 and up can't be downgraded. if it can run homebrew y does it need to be downgraded? i want all the new features on the psp but i want to play backups more

ONLY 1.5 plays backups, if you just desire homebrew, then any PSP you get will be fine...BUT....since there is no kernal mode, not ALL homebrew can be run, 1.5 is the BEST firmware for homebrew still. If you get 2.01+ tho, you'll HAVE to have a copy of GTA to play homebrew as well :-\...

well, **** ty. i looked at a psp today and it was friggin sweet. when i get 1.5x version and do the mod or whatever to boot backup, will it be the same as regular psp but be able to boot loader off mem stick? ty

Yes it is :)! It's not really a mod, its actually a version of the OS that sony wrong themselves....they f***ed up ;)! If it is 1.51 or 1.52 you have ot upgrade to 2.0, then downgrad to 1.5 ;)!

You need to upgrade to 2.0 to downgrade, grab the upgrader at www.pspupdates.com, they have the 2.0 update, make SURE it's the 2.0 and not the 2.01. 2.0 is the only firmware other than 1.0 and 1.5 that has a FLASH access exploit ;)!

ok well, i fucked things up. i didnt tell u i was just getting the core and they dont have the version on the cores box. i got version 2.50. i didnt have enough money to get the bundle and the money to get bundle and memory card. im pissed. i heard aobut the daxloader usb and i bought that usb/power cord that hooks up to psp for data and power but how do i use it? i have 8 games on my pc right now but i cant play them and its gay. plz help me.

As it is a 2.5 you will not be able to play any type of backups with any method at the moment.

The only thing you can do with it, is homebrew, but then you still need GTA UMD in order to run the exploit.

dude i got 007 from russia or whatever and street fighter alpha 3. the names were PSP.Game.StreetFighterAlpha3.English.PACK194MB.ByC ombateMortal and PSP.Game.007FromRussiaWithLove.English.PACK652MB.B yCombateMortal. both came with folders called x, PSP, and the games initails. i put the files and folders where they belong on the psp and it showed up in games. why did it? it shows 007, RunUMD, MPH 2.00 Game Loader for 1.50, Corrupted Data, DeviceHook 0.22, and another Corrupted Data. if the psp can see them, i know it shouldnt be that hard to play them. they arent really corrupt, it just doesnt pass some test the psp does to check if its legit or not. i would be the **** if someone made a hack for this for 2.50.
