View Full Version : Rumour: Was the PS3 really Shown at E3 ? Xbox 360 and PC Used ?
Two interesting reports have surfaced on the web, one which comes from IGN stated that a supposed demo of Assassins: Creed for the PS3 was reported to being run on Xbox 360 hardware. The article has since been removed but one MaxConsole reader managed to salvage the quote, next up TheInquirer are claiming that Gran Turismo for the PS3 was NOT actually running on the Sony console but a PC!
Here is the quote from IGN's article which has since been <A href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/708/708431p1.html" target="_blank">removed</a>...
Ubisoft Montreal revealed its next incredible project, Assassins: Creed, exclusively for PlayStation 3 at E3 this year, much to the delight of Sony console fans and to the dismay of Microsoft consoles fans. Ubisoft officially would not comment on a possible Xbox 360 version.
According to sources close to the company, however, there are potential plans for an Xbox 360 version at Assassins: Creed sometime in 2007. Additionally, Microsoft sources who asked not to be mentioned by name, claimed the demo, hidden behind closed doors at E3, was running on an Xbox 360 using a third-party USB PlayStation controller. The game system was hidden in a stand covered by a sheet. Again, Ubisoft officials would not comment.
Next up is a claim by leading tech site <a href="http://theinquirer.net/?article=31681" target="_blank">theinquirer</a> that Gran Turismo HD was running off a PC not a PS3...
Look closely at that title, it is object rich, interactive, happy and pretty, everything you would expect from a next gen title on a next gen console.
Has Wii seen the marquee launch title? Has wii found the dev team that managed to crack the cell coding puzzle? Found the next Jeff Minter? What did the Gran Turismo team do? What did Sony do?
Well, the version of Gran Turismo, ostensibly running on a PS3, is really running on a PC. Is Sony trying to tell us that a PC is a better gaming platform than the upcoming $600 beastie, or is it the other way around?
Either way, this would be very embarrassing for them if it got out, so make sure not to tell anyone.
Thanks to <A href="http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=46387" target="_blank">xiaNaix</a> for the heads up on the matter. These stories once again give an incredibly poor light on Sony's next-gen console but the question is are these articles actually true ?

We can't 100% believe it without any "proof".....however both stories may very well be true. Game companies do this all the time...demo software on hardware different from what it will actually end up on. The reasons are varied...sometimes the hardware has not been finalized, sometimes the demo has not yet been polished and was easier to code on a regular PC....who knows. Microsoft admittedly demo'd Xbox 360 games at E3 2005 on a (OH NO!!!) Macintosh G4 machine. The fact is that this is common practice, and is done to show the software in it's best light.
I'm not a playstation hater (though i've had enough of Sony in general), but I think we should all keep in mind that EVERY console/software company does this from time to time, so IF Sony was running demo games on different hardware, they aren't the first to do so. I think the only guys there who can honestly say they weren't doing this is Microsoft....as nearly all of the E3 demos and trailers were posted in the Xbox Live marketplace, and thus HAD to be running on the 360 Hardware.
I'm not hating on any of them, just saying that if these stories are true, big deal...they all do it.

Jaysus, why is everyone hating on the PS3? Is it because they can't afford it, or pissed that they spent $400 on the 360?

I'm actually starting to feel a little bad for Sony, each article the media posts is ALWAYS something negative, with the wii it's like everyone loved it's innovation, the 360 there was not much to ***** about (it's a nice solid system really) - BUT as the Playstation brand is the household name, everyone expects a lot more from it. There's nothing particularly new or exciting about the PS3 yet, there is no WOW factor...the Wii has the WOW factor.

PS3 is gonna beat the Japan market, no matter what Sony is or will do, and no matter if the PS3 cost $600.
If the lowest platform of the previous gen have win the race, why wouldn't win PS3 the new race being the one with more potencial???
If many japanese haven't buyed the 360 for one year until waiting PS3 release, is 'cause they have alredy choose
NOw many times ara gonna tell it??? the Gran Turismo, is only a visual demo of the PS2 GT4 in Hi-res 1080p, it's not a PS3 game... What would you all think when they show the PS3 Gran Turismo 5???

I don't believe anythink of all the companies says, i only believe in consoles in stands with PLAYABLE DEMO versions.

Like I said, Sony is being viewed under the microscope way too hard at this point in the game. They are in the exact same positition MS was in with the 360 at last year's E3. Everyone was saying how they weren't impressed with it compared to the Sony vids. Hell, they didn't have anything playable for the 360 at last years E3, and still made a Nov launch. I still don't see the greatness in the Wii...Mario looks great, Zelda looks great, but it also looks great on the Gamecube. I'm still convinced that the controller is the biggest gimmick I have ever heard of. I know I don't want to be playing games like that all the time, and every game will not play well with that controller...The PS3 is almost capible of doing the same thing with it's games. Oh well I guess we will have to see what next years E3 holds...It will be entirely different...

:D because $ony wants to avoid alot of crashes that may be imminent with the bugginess of new hardware! It has nothing really to hide, but they want to present (and hopefully not misrepresent) their flagship titles without the worries of it crashing because we all know when systems crash on cash cow games the media hypes it up blaming the system hardware.
as for the other game running on a 360? very likely! as a windows based system they could just have ported the game and used again more reliable hardware. (theory 2) the game was NOT originally exclusive to the system, and they were running the 360 version because they were able to pass it off being that the graphics are nearly identical. the dead giveaway they were not using a ps3 was the 3rd party controller. but then again the game companies are selling just that THE GAME!!!
if you look closely at the disclaimers that often follow (may or may not represent retail gameplay or the like) dishonest? maybe a little but from the other perspective, after all you are judging the gameplay not the system as long as the concept is the same, who cares what it's running on.... a playable game is way better than a lame video anyday.
ps i can vouch that these things do in fact happen, as my company showcases our software running on pc's instead of the technical units we sell for budgeting reasons, and nobody ever complained......

Assassins Creed might be a term exclusive for the PS3. I have nothing to back this theory up, other than the fact that a third party title that is an exclusive is more likely to be ported to a popular competitor these days. If that's the case, it is possible that Ubisoft was showing their 360 work, because it was the version that they had the most time to tweak.
Developers have gone on record already as saying that the performance of the PS3 and the 360 will be comparable. So considering the level of PS3 development, it would make sense to build what the engine and the levels will be capable of on hardware that if finished, and then writing the PS3 code with a better idea of what they can actually use for the final product.
The second article was in theinquirer, and I think that's all that needs saying regarding its credibility. :D

Its a pretty well known fact that the only working xbox 360 last year was at the ATI booth. All of the Microsoft playable games were being done on Apple G5 computers.
If they were capable of running the demos on the real thing Sony would have made a point of making sure people knew it was finished and you were playing on a PS3. At best the demos were being run on the development systems (which to my knowledge still don't have any of the real hardware yet anyways). If not they were being done on whatever they had available that could run the games. If there is going to be an xbox 360 version of Assassins: Creed then its possible that they put some time into the code and were running the demo on an xbox 360 but I doubt it. I suspect that the demos were really running on was an IBM workstation that was running a cell processor. (I believe the workstations actually run 2 cell chips)
This is not a big deal to me I wish the companies would admit the hardware they use to run demos (Kinda like the whole PS3 demos from last E3) but I doubt we are going to see that anytime soon. I can easily see Nintendo using a modified gamecube for the demos up until now all wii demos have been done using gamecubes.

What, sony tell a fib (straight out lie). Thats not like them, lmaorofl :D
Sony have never shown us things under false pretenses before, why would they start now. lmao :D
Im pretty sure u always get more fiction then truth at sonys press confrences. But in the end they'll have something. but its never as good as what they promise. History can show u that.
Why are people talking ****, simple. they dont like being lied to. I know it pissed me off alot last year to learn that half the games they showed were just scripted cgi game targets being rendered on what was gonna be the ps3 at an astonishing 5 fps, then sped up to 60 fps in post proccessing, then shown on a movie screen and claimed to be real time by the ps3 (what can be more bullshit). Im still pissed about that crap. People dont always have as many wows to say for M$, and Im actually a solid M$ hater, but nobody can say they lied. Everything we saw from them, we know for a fact were going to get, and when we do, it will only be better than what we saw then. This makes for trust and is actually helping sway me towoards respecting M$'s buisness practices.

theyres a difrence.
Sony have never promised anything.
theyve had and idea of what they want, mentioned it, but like all product ideas if it doesnt work or (not productive) its taken out.
at the end of the day the ps3 is just a console to play games thats what sony have promised and thats what you will get in the box to take home.
what has the 360 given, nothing other than a console that plays games.

its a game console, why does it need to offer that much more? It offers gamers a way to communicate online with text and voice and a dvd player with an option to add hd-dvd if the buyer wishes. Sony never should of showcased the console front and back if it didn't plan on keeping dual hdmi or hdmi for every console. Sony had every intention of making the boomerangesque controller a reality until it got such negative results. The only thing they told that was true was they warned people it would be an expensive system. Like it or not sony is putting a bad taste in alot of peoples mouths this time round and its from people who used to be die hard sony fans
