IF history is anything to go by, the Nintendo Wii should launch for $199 dollars. The GC, N64, SNES and NES all had $199 launch prices in one shape or form, speculation has pointed to a price of $249 but this figure will most likely be at the upper end of Nintendo's pricing for the Wii. An editorial believes that Nintendo lost alot of market share with the GC and the low pricing of the Wii is crucial to their strategy in the next-gen console wars.

Looking back at the history of Nintendo, you can see that every video game console which they released was priced at $199. Even when the PlayStation, PS2 and XBOX came out at $299, Nintendo kept their launch price at $199.

It is probably safe to assume that Nintendo will keep the same price strategy for Nintendo Wii, and analysts seem to agree. Nintendo has lost a great deal of market share over the past few years, especially with the GameCube. However, with the release of Nintendo Wii, they have a chance to win back some of this market share, and the pricing of the console is probably going to be on of their biggest strategies. With the lower end XBOX 360 and PS3 systems starting at $299 and $499 respectively, a price of $199 will drive a lot of sales for Nintendo.

For the price of $199 USD I could get two Wii's. Then I would have a Wii Wii. Or maybe the Wii2 should be called a Wii Wii. =)

Enough with the corny jokes! :p

But that's very good news, and we all know that Nintendo won't fall behind in the Console race this year. I'm a Xbox fanboy, and I must say, I'm really psyched for the Wii too.

absolutely correct, i still have the reciept taped to the box. i was working at kay bee toys that christmas, and we only got 12 of them so it was one for me, one for my brother and the rest of the employees bought the less expensive newly repriced psx at $199

$199 USD or $249 CAD (the conversion really doesnt make sense anymore). Either way, the console is still going to be very cheap in comparison to the $649 PS3 or the still $499 Xbox 360. I know that even though it would be nice to get all three consoles this time round again, I think my starter is going to be nintendo once again. I got my Gamcube, then came the Xbox (to me modded of course) and not until the last year did the PS2 come into the house. As far as prices go i think this time round it will be the same deal, Wii, PS3 and then eventually 360. It will be interesting.

Who says pot destroyes the memory, that came to me completley offhand. I hate when market analysists or news reporters make up lies to make there storys seem true.

Thanks for letting me know I remebered correctley, I was actually trying to figure out a way to find an original add beacuse i knew it wasnt 199.

Yeah I remeber all the hype for that one, Whats funny is I tryed to preorder one and was told I couldnt cause all the pres were filled, then like 2 days after release it was my bros birthday. We decidid to go down to Electronics Boutique and if they had one we could buy, that was gonna be his gift. All we had to do was walk in and grab it off the shelf lol, all the preorders got cancelled at that store.
