Our earlier report on the PS3 dashboard with keyboard & mouse support is now confirmed to be true via T3. When you power up a PS3 console, you will be greeted with a PSP like menu, but of course with more advanced options for the PS3.

PlayStation 3 borrows PSP's menu interface, but offers a few intriguing additions [more images]Power-up your PlayStation 3 and you’ll be greeted by a PSP-style start-up screen. All the icons are identical to those of its handheld counterpart, with movies (Hi-Def ones, of course), music and web options all available. But the PS3’s interface packs a couple of new additions.

First, is the ‘Users’ button which enables you to flick between profiles, suggesting that Sony is expecting each machine to be fought over by more than one member of the family. The other intriguing icon is a ‘Friends’ button. However, Sony wasn’t willing to give us any more info on how these systems will actually function at this early stage.

Another interesting snippet was confirmation that you’ll be able to use a keyboard and mouse with PS3, enabling you to easily browse the web on your telly.

disappointing, isn't the ps3 supposed to be using linux based os? if they still are why would they use a handheld based frontend for a next gen system? so much more could of been done but the dash doesnt make the system so if this is the only complaint so fair then its not that much of a big deal..... i guess

Everything about the PS3 SCREAMS RUSHED!!! I think they thought they could just dominate the market based on the power of the playstation, Nintendo have shook them up with their innovation, Microsoft have really come in full force swaying developers such as Rockstar etc and their range of official peripherals looks solid. All this talk of developers not knowing about ps3 controller 'til a few weeks back, yields on the cell etc just doesn't look promising.

Despite all Sony say about a November release date, there could be every possibility of a late release date, although Sony would miss out on the Christmas period which they desperately wouldn't want to miss!

I hope for the sake of competition, Sony really has aces up its sleeve which it hasn't played yet.
