This looks like a good program. Would be nice if you could write those saves onto the SRAM of the approrpiate commerical cart.
Also is there something like this for the GBA games?

This program is my saviour! When I bought my M3, I was so bummed that I had to start all my games from scratch, until I found this. I love that it has a built in option for backing up M3 type saves and then writes them right to the card.

Just put the "REIN.nds" on your mini SD, put the SD in your M3, put your M3 in your DS and then boot up. Browse to the rein.nds file and push start (not A). When the program starts, select "M3 Man" and hit A. It'll then ask you to insert an original NDS cart. Do that and hit A again. It'll backup whatever saves are on there, then it'll ask you where you want to put the save. It'll show a list of current saves on your M3. Just go to the one for the game you just inserted and hit A again and it will overwrite the save. As far as I know, there must already be a ".dat" (save) file on your M3 for the game you are doing this for because it has to overwite a file that already exsits. But if you used the M3 game manager software to put the game on your M3, it automatically creates the ".dat" file for you. Hope that helps.

Ok, Ok starting to understand the program a bit. Is there a way to change the .dat to .sav and vice versa? Also, can you put save data on to commercial DS cards? Thanks a million.

If you choose the first option ("backup"), it will write the save file in the .sav format directly to the root directory of your M3, and then you can put it on your computer for safe keeping. There is not a way to write saves to retail DS games.

There is no need to convert the .nds file, just copy it to your card. My guess is that you haven't read through this thread and you're trying to hit "A" to run the program. If you do that, you'll get a black screen.

I haven't tried those carts, but you may want to try renameing your .dat file to somethign smaller, I was having problems backing up games to long filenames.

Hey
I tried this for CF Supercard/Key and it works like a treat. I've even got UK game saves working on US games apart from Brain Training (I have the UK save but US rom - which works fine on New Super Mario Bros, etc.).
Any idea why this one game is being stubborn?

I've been unable to pull savegames off my games using REIN, and I"ve read and searched and googled all day to no avail... anyone have any ideas?
DS Lite, latest FlashMe, M3 Perfect MiniSD e22, 2gig MiniSD card.
I can run .nds games just fine using the M3 Game Manager.
I need to pull savegames off of a couple games that I bought, but the latest RAIN/REIN 15 freezes up after I "hit A" to start the import.
Things that I've tried that didn't make any difference:
-booting REIN from Moonshell.
-ReinMoon didn't work.
-Different games. None work.
-Fat16/Fat32 format of the MiniSD card.

Ok, so you went whole-hog and now have a nice DS-capable flashcart and either have FlashMe v7 installed or are using one of the many passkey devices.
But how to get those savegames you have on your carts down onto the flashcart for use with the ROM?
You've tried the latest version of Rein and it just doesn't seem to work either!
Simple. Just download and install ReinMoon!
http://mdxonline.dyndns.org/archives/2006/07/reinmoon_ver04.shtml
It can seem daunting when you first run it because EVERYTHING will be in Japanese if you did NOT modify the config file that's in the Reinmoon directory on the root of your flashcart.
It comes with an easy-to-understand auto-installer as well...matter of fact, that's pretty much the ONLY way to install it.
Make sure the cart you want to backup the savegame from is in the DS Slot and boot from the flashcart in DS mode.
Run Reinmoon after configuring it to use English and then just press START + SELECT at the same time and it will ask you to press START when you want to begin backing up the savegame of the inserted slot. Most of the time the program will actually KNOW what cart is in there and name it, but sometimes it doesn't recognize the newer carts as the savegame data for those carts might not be in the Reinmoon cart list file just yet.
After pressing start, just wait. It will tell you when it's finished.
Once it's done you then have a flashcart-compatible savegame you can use with your ROM!
All you have to do now is rename the savegame to the same name as the cart. For us Supercard CF/SD/mini-SD users you will have to use the suffix ".nds.sav" and delete the original savegame file that was created when you patched the ROM using the Supercard software. You can either hook the card back up to your computer or use the DS Organizer homebrew to rename the file right on the DS itself as well as delete the old savegame.
I've tested this with Metroid Prime Hunters, Animal Crossing, New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, and the rest of my collection. Worked like a charm with no problems.
It's a hell of a lot easier than using that damnable DS Max Duo hunk-of-junk to backup the gamesave from the cart to your PC, then uncompress and then run it through a homebrew converter to turn it into a flashcart-compatible gamesave.
I found a slew of DS carts that didn't like that converter, so using Reinmoon is more reliable.
Have fun!

Then your card is corrupt. Any PC (or Mac) should be able to see it when it's plugged in and then you can easily copy them over to the PC (or Mac).

I created new M3 .dat files with shorter names. The M3 Game manager makes a .dat save file using the name of the DS rom on your cart. I used the game manager to make a new save and then renamed it to something shorter. Then I used the option in Rein DS => M3 and placed the save in the new shorter .dat file. That solved my problem.

hey i have searched forums, googled it generally looked every where heres my problem.
I am using a ds lite, with supercard lite, 1 gb sandisk micro sd and superkey
i used the rein.nds file linked in this thread, put it on my sd card and loaded it on my ds, i couldnt press start because it does nothing so i had no choice but to press "a" when i did it loaded fine, i am trying to copy the games saves of
Mariokart ds
Tetris ds
Bomberman ds
when i went to m3 man, it says no file found on all my carts even though they are all at least 95% complete,
so i thought if i can copy the save, i could back it up then convert it on my pc so i went to the back up option at the top of the yellow list, on bomberman, and tetris i said complete, on mariokart it just froze at 0% when i put the sd card in my cardreader, you cant see the backup file its not in the DS browser window either so i presume it isnt there.
so after reading through the forum again i tried rein moon, allthough im unsure where im ment to save it i double clicked the setup and when i had to choose a location i chose my sd card, during the install i got an error message saying i was missing a file (not sure which one) then when i tried to use my DS everything didnt work and i had to format my sd card (lucky i backed up) can anyone help?
im not to bothered about tetris ds, so if anyone has a 100% mario kart save file or/ and a 95% or 100% bomberman save file i would be very appreciative or infact software that has been tried and tested on my setup
sorry about the long post im almost pulling my hair out.

its easy, just download reinmoon, then on ur supercard on ur DS, open up reinmoon. now remove ur passkey from slot 1 and insert ur NDS retail game cartridge. Reinmoon will recognize it on the top screen so then press A and it will write it to ur memory. Then take ur retail nds cartrige out and put another one in, do tthe same again and again till ur satisfied.:) So then when u connect ur spercard to ur pc, u will see the game saves , rename them to extactly what the original rom saves were and voila!

Thanks for the reply seb.
That part sounds relatively straightforward enough.
What I'm worried about is the fact that I'm currently using the Supercard Lite with PATCHED games (with their own independent .sav files per game). When I start using my Supercard DS, it will need clean/unpatched roms and I think there's just one major save file etc?
SO...what I really need to do is find out how to take my .sav for all my current patched games and make them work with clean games on the SCDS. I don't see how REIN will work in this manner. It will probably be a PC based operation...I just need to know what that is??? Any help is totally appreciated!

I've figured it out, so I'll answer my own question for others.
Since the SC Lite needs patched roms, the patcher software splits the ROM in two: one for the game file and one for the save file. I initially tried copying these save files onto the microsd card and using them with the clean roms for use in the DS1. This didn't work.
After messing around, I noticed the "Game Alias" in moonshell on the DS1. For example, New Super Mario has a filename of 0434 - New Super Mario Bros. (U).nds and an alias of 0434-N~1.nds.
You need to rename your save file to match the ALIAS, so the save file here should be 0434-N~1.SAV Another example is Mario Kart. The filename is 0168 - Mario Kart DS (U) (M5).nds and the alias is 0168-M~1.nds, so you will need to rename your old savefile to 0168-M~1.SAV to get it to work on the SCDS1.
Now if only I could get rein to work so I could copy my saves from my carts.

I have tried this, and it seems to work... however....
Once I put my SD card back into my computer, there is no sign of a SAV or DAT file that has been updated with my Original SAV backup... I have even tried to overwite a DAT file, and look for the xxxxx_.sav it creates.
Any suggestions?

I have a R4DS and a SC Lite microSD. I'm using the R4DS in passkey mode to run either reinmoon 0.6 or rein 15 from the SC Lite. Both programs appear to work, but I just end up with a corrupt microSD card in the SC Lite when they're done writing the savegame. I have tried reformatting fat16 with various cluster sizes to no avail. I am wondering if this is a problem with using the R4DS as a passkey device and I need to flash my DS Lite? Can anyone else test using the R4DS or M3 Simply as a passkey device?

I need help! I have read this forum many times and I just can't get this to work for me. I did what it said but when I put the "REIN.nds" on your mini SD, put the SD in your M3, put your M3 in your DS and then boot up. Browse to the rein.nds file and push start (not A). Nothing happens. It just goes back to the main screen. If I press A instead of select I get the screen that asks me to choose backup restore M3 MAN dump etc. If I select M3 MAN It asks me I want DS >M3or M3 > DS. If I choose DS > M3 by pressing A It says please insert DS card and push A. When I insert the card it says Type = 1 Size 512 byte id=$384F000 $384F000. When I press A nothing happens, and I have to reboot the system. What am I doing wrong?

im having problems with rein (and reinmoon) on my supercard lite (firmware: 1.70, using rein.sc.nds from the first page of posts)
i can execute it, itll go through to the menu, i go to backup, remove my superkey, put in my original game cart (ive tried clubhouse games, mario kart, nintendogs, children of mana and advance wars, all eu, i think, im from australia so yea, eu) and start the backup process. the prompts tell me that it has backed up but when i look at the microsd later on, theres no file there at all. any ideas?

I am confused too, I am stuck at the first step, I have an older DS, Supercard-SD. I want to save off my saves for Mario Kart DS. I have rein.sc.nds on my sd card, the sd card in my SC-SD and my mario Kart card in slot 1. I cannot figure out how to boot into the sd card with the rein file on it, always goes to Mario Kart or if I pick the GBA game option no files are visible.
Any clues appreciated.

I sorted it out, took SK ans SK out and put them in again, came up with the menu, booted into rein and saved my games, nice bit of software indeed.

I can't make it work either. It just corrupts the microSD card after it appears to have worked correctly. I am using R4DS v1.06 as my nopass device, SC Lite (microsd) firmware 1.7, and A-Data 1GB microSD. I have a Kingston microSD on order. I don't think the R4DS is relevant. Perhaps the type of microSD card is, or the firmware on the SC?

I FINALLY got it to work!
I used the Supercard Lite Micro SD and the Superkey, firmware 1.7
I used Reinmoon v.6 which I found here http://mdxonline.dyndns.org/archives/2006/09/reinmoon_ver06.shtml
With this particular setup, I couldn't get anything to work other than reinmoon v6, so be sure you're using the right version. The actual process is pretty straightforward once I had this correct version.

I got reinmoon v.6 to work last night, with a different MicroSD card (1GB Kingston Taiwan instead of 1GB A-Data) and FlashMe instead of using the R4DS to boot slot 2. I didn't get a chance to determine whether it was the MicroSD or the FlashMe that made it work. I'll try to follow up soon. :D
I also converted the saves to the R4DS format using their windows tool. The saves work fine on the R4DS after conversion.

I used rein15 to save file from the DS to M3 adapter and i get .sav file, then i used the saver manager of M3 game Manager in order to convert it to .dat format using the option write.sav
My problem is when i select the .sav file i get a windonws error.
is there any one who can help me.
I have a M3 Simply DS and borrowed my friend's M3 Lite MicroSD slot 2. I got ReinMoon running and got it to get the sav file, but when I put it on my m3 simply ds, and load the rom it says the save file is corrupted and needs to be recreated? I also noticed the file sizes are drasticaly different. The sav file created by the m3 simply ds rom is 512kb and the one pulled off using rein is 8kb. Am I doing something wrong?

i use m3savetool in stead of saver manager to convert the .sav original one to the .dat file then i rename it with saver manager of M3 game manager and it works.
i have Nintendo DS with flashme V7 and M33 Adapter Slim SD:)
