The latest edition of the PSM magazine hints that the PS3 will be priced at $399 USD, €322 in Europe and ¥45,965 in Japan. The magazine also confirms a 60gb standard hard-drive, backwards compatibilty of PS2/PS1 titles at 720, 1080i and 1080p.

The latest issue of PSM has revealed new details about the PlayStation 3. While CNN’s Chris Morris claims that Sony won’t announce a price for the PS3 at E3 2006, PSM says the PlayStation 3 is expected to sell for about u$s399 in the U.S., €322 in Europe and ¥45,965 in Japan.

The magazine also claims that the console will come standard with a 60GB, non-removable hard drive.

For those who care about backward compatibility, PSM also revealed that PSO and PS2 games will run on the PlayStation 3 in 720, 1080i and 1080p.

The magazine also confirms some info we already knew. First, all games will come in Blu-ray Disc media and there won’t be regional lockouts. Second, the launch line-up, as well as the final design for the controller, will be revealed at next month’s E3 expo.

Finally, the console will launch in the first half of November with the PlayStation Network Platform service launching simultaneously with the console and offering free online gameplay.

OMG everything sounds so great though I heard a lot of speculation ranging from last years E3 until now I heard prices ranging from 399 up to 2000 lol. Still I stay optimistic and if Sony really goes that way to INCLUDE currency exchange values this time meaning that normally a console which costs 200 $ costs 200 € in europe. So 322 € would be a damn good price including Blu-Ray, 60 gig hard drive, wireless controller, free online gaming. This sounds just too good to be true but it would be fantastic.

So anyone who wants to save $600 on the cheapest Blu-ray player can pick up a PS3 instead, and the money which Sony is hoping to get off of PS3 game sales won't be coming from that group. Meanwhile, people who want a new generation of gaming, and have an interest in buying games, will have to wait longer and will be more likely to resort to another platform. Somehow, I don't see this happening. I just don't.

A Blu-ray player, plus a 60 GB HDD, plus free online gaming, plus the cost of the Cell processor, for a platform that will likely be very hard to find in stores for the first few months already, will likely be more than what PSM are quoting. Besides, isn't the typical pricing for Europe normally obtained by just swapping a $ with a € on the US price? A cheaper price will only allow the vultures of EBay to hoard more consoles for more profits this holiday season.

now dont get me wrong a 400 blu ray player would be nice but remember when sony released there ps2 as a dvd player, many of the systems had a flaw and there ps2 lasers died. Hell lasers are still dying on ps2 from more recent vers. Besides the fact the ps3 price isnt announced at 399 its merely a rumor. None the less I did attempt to reserve a ps3 but the store wouldn't allow preorders until a price was announced and if there not announcing a price at e3 when the hell am i going to get to reserve the thing.

I just dont see how Sony can afford to sell it at them prices it will be about same price as xb360.

Blu-ray development must of cost them alot and it questions them ripping people off again why are blu-ray players 1000+ then? and in UK it should be £250 then but I bet it ends up being closer to £400.
