OK against everyone's better judgement I tried anyway.
I aquired all the files needed,and decided to go for it.

I followed the tutorial written by Alcohol,and went all the way through,and it didnt work,everything seemed like it was goin great,untill I got to reboot.

well to make a long story short(somewhat short)
I read back through the tutorial and noticed where I skipped something DOH!, I edited the evox.ini(evox in a notepad) for my network,but didnt change the xboxdash directories,then I realised that I had no clue where it was. blah blah blah,I found the evox.ini file in the drive e in the xbox(dont even know why I was in e...just was?) anyway,I edited it then moverd the new one in and overwrote.

then after I rebooted and it didnt work,I rebooted with mechassault in and got evox again,only this time I had a new thing at the bottom..."install Evox ????(forgot the version,can get tho) I hit it,and it said done,so I thought I was good still...Nope!
I have know idead what got changed when I hit Install evox,but
I think what I didb4 with evox.ini...was changed the saved game that is saved in my hdd,and what I wanna know is,is there a way to get back up long enough to change it back.

Please respond asap please,
I have a warrantee where I can get it replaced hopefully,but dont wanna do that if i dont have to.
help me please

Ok from what I can gather from your responce you have overwritten the xboxdash.xbe file in the C drive with an edited one. Is that what you have done?

If so then thats your problem. The reason that there was one in the E drive is because the tut tells you to place one there and leave the one in C drive alone (it needs to remain original).

If you do not have an original copy of the xboxdash.xbe file then you can either attempt to find a copy of it (correct version) OR you can try updating the dash (providing it is not already updated).

I dont think that is it...but I do have a backup of the orriginal,I edited the evox.ini and thats when everything went wrong.

But I cant ftp through my evox dash(mechassault save).
I can load evox like I always did(through mech) but I cant gain ftp access,and none of the settings in the evox network stuff has changed...the only thing that changed was Now I have an "install evox at the bottom of the dashboard..

How do I resume ftp access...I can fix it if I can get in?

and my dash has already been updated,I can still play games,and get on live,just cant see my dashboard.

also... I can play games,just have to turn off xbox to stop it from suckin the disc back in when tryin to switch...

everything in games works..even Live...just no dashboard access,which makes it real hard to put in a fresh mech installer save...

I am screwed!

I will just leave it as is for now...

seeing how I can play games,think it would be possible to run evox from a disc...just long enough to fix it back to normal...how would I put evox to a cdr so it would boot?

I'd fix the network problem first.
goto system settings and change one item, then save and exit.
reboot the Xbox and then set the network settings back to whatever u want.
reboot the Xbox again

PS, make sure the network cables are plugged in before turning the Xbox on and make sure the network settings for the Xbox and your PC have a different IP but the same sub-net

all my network settings seem fine,they are all the same,as I said B4,it was when I edited the evox notepad(.ini)
audio and dash to drive e,after it was already installed.

I'm thinking ( hoping) that because all the exploits and everythin but ,y correct dash are in,I might be ablt to run eviox from a disc...but when trying to create the iso,I cant add evox.ini into the iso like it says...any ideas on what I'm doing wrong here...jeesh!

I'm getting frustrated to the point,I'm about to trade it in.

it may "seem" fine, but there has been a known issue when editting evox.ini in a non-unix environment.
that's why I sugguested changing the settings in evox, it will edit the file correctly and should fix the problem

Now I wish I had took the time to put the 007 save in too.

I got in with mechassault,and now that save is screwed up(in the evox/settings panel)...its set to autolaunch games,so everytime it crashes to go to phoenix/evox,it reboots the game instead.

I have the 007 save too and it works on my sons box(cause I manually put it on the HDD),but It wont load on my box...cause I never installed it to the HDD.

`````````````````````````````````````````````````` ````````````````````````````````````````
1. Is there ANYWAY AT ALL to get that save to load off the memory card without crashing(without first copying it to the HDD manually)
if not...
2. Is there ANY OTHER WAY AT ALL that I can gain FTP access to put my backups back in?
3.Is there anyway I can get a utility(Like BoXplorer) to load off a CDRW (I have CDRW's that XBOX will read normally...music, etc...
4. if none of these other options are an option...Can Installing a chip fix it?
5. Do I have to live with the fact that I killed my favorite machine,and try and return it without (hopefully without consequences) lol
6. Please scratch your heads and come up with somethin for me :)
I hate Life
:(
(not really,just really mad at myself,for making such stupid mistakes)
I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but my suggestion would be to try to either a) update the dashboard with any live-enabled game or b) resort to the HDD swap trick and restore your files
Thx Skyfire,both good ideas, but...
Xbox Live is Still setup from b4 all this.and still works,allthough I dont take it online(except just to try it earlier) cause I dont wanna be banned.
I havnt tried that xbox live starter disc...I'll check that out...
but dont wanna do HDD swap,cause I was gonna return it,its under 100% warrantee,just dont wanna have to do that,cause I dont wanna have to do it more than once(they might get me) :p
At this point, what exactly is the problem? You cannot access the settings tab in Evox? You cannot access the MS Dash? You cannot access your memory card? You cannot FTP into Evox? Your Evox.ini file is incorrect? You overwrote your xboxdash.xbe?
What exactly is wrong,is I have a brand new XBOX(2 months old) that HAS no dashboard...NONE!
I can play games,but thats it,I can only access saved games in game.
When fooling around with stuff I shouldnt have been foolin around with,after I already mislead the evox.ini file
e:\xboxdash.xbe(see beginning of thread)...I changed the setting,in the settings page of the evox dash to autoload games(DOH!)...therefor no more ftp access,and no more evox...I also have the 007save...but didnt put it on the HDD first,and it wont boot from the memory card(I know its a good save,cause it launched evox on my other xbox(see above)
So what I need is a way to restore my orriginal dash,so I can put in a new mechsave...or a 007,so i can start over...but right now,Id just be happy to have a 2month old xbox with a dashboard!
If you have knowledge of the things I'm speaking of,and wanna ty to help me,I'm open for suggestions...dont wanna open the box...unless to install a modchip(if even possible at this point...I dunno)then comes the quest of finding some1 to install it for me. pm me and I'll add ya to my messenger or email or something...ty
the only way I see to fix it,is to get a utility like xbtool or xexplorer to run from a cdrw or dvdrw,but it would have to be cracked I guess.
I'm away from home,as soon as I get home,I will install the xboxlive starter disc,and see if it can help me...but I dont think it will restore my dashboard(super long shot)!
Ok well I can see 3 possible solutions for your dilema.
1. Preform a HDD swap on the xbox and try to add/replace/fix the recquired files.
2. Install a modchip into the xbox so that you can run misc code (such as boot evox from a CD) so you can FTP to the box.
3. Attempt to upgrade the dashboard. This may fix the problem as I have seen it do so in the past.
These options are what I was expecting,so let me make this my final question to this thread(maybe)lol
final couple actually...
You said you have seen this work(dash update)
what ways are there to do it...Live games?
This box has a manufacturer date of 5/5/03 so its new and,
Live is already installed to the dash before ya open the box ,so it just boots to live.
Should I remove my live account then try?
If this dont work,and A modchip is my only answer(HDD swap seems WAY to complicated),and a chip can definately (can it) fix my problem...then should I return this box within the warrantee,and try again,then if I fail(I wont this time!) go with the modchip?
Also what would You suggest to do about the warrantee?
Fry it completely somehow so they cant trace what I've done so easily,or leave it alone so it will be easy for them to fix and resell?
The warrantee I have covers pretty much anything,if it breaks,they replace it...no ?'s I just give it to em,then go back and get a new one off the shelf.
Most here seem pretty smart and friendly...any advice will be greatly appreciated.
are there any decent chips that dont require opening the box,like ethernet access or usb or sumpin?
When I say I'm askin for advice,thats what I mean,I'm not looking for some1 to blame here,for any of MY OWN mistakes... just a lil friendly advice,I just kinda wanna see what u guys would do...if u were me,and had the choices I got?
I'll give it till they update the xbox live dashboard(voice chat and ugprades and stuff)...then I'll make my decision.
Thx for all the help guys.
I'll let ya know lol
first, what dashboard runs the games automatically?
if it's Evox or something similar, get Phoenix BIOS Loader or another dashboard on a CR-RW and add whatever other utils u need (XISO format).
name whichever one u want to run first "default.xbe" and then u should have control again
if it's the M$ dashboard, the only option I see is the HD swap
