I have a Qoob PRO since a few weeks ago with BIOS 1.3c (the one that allows you to run backups) and anything have worked just fine. But two days ago, April 1st, my friend and my sister was playing Mario Party 7, and since the cables are a bit short, the both managed to crash the 'cube down one time each. The gamecube stands about 0,5 metres above the floor, and when they crashed it, both the cables were unplugged.

Anyway, yesterday my DVD-R backups started to malfunction. I tried to boot Starfox Adventures, and managed to do it on the second try. After that, it just didn't boot any of the backups i have. The DVD engine just spun the DVD around, and the laser tried to read, it went from the outer regions of the DVD to the inner in several steps, and after doing that for a while, the engine just stopped but the BIOS said "Reading DVD..." (or whatever it says), or "Reading disc id". Sometimes, it just spun around for a second or two and then stoppd (i DO have a case, i just opened the lid). Original games booted just fine.

I tried to re-install the BIOS, and then it worked. But i noticed an unnormal long loading time between the logos and the title screen in SFA.

Today, when my sister played MP7 again, and when it loaded a battle game the screen just went black and the game froze. I tried with SFA again, and after the "Running game..." message, it went black and didn't even show the logos. Then it was the same symptoms all over again. Again, original games boot just fine, but backups just spin.

Is my gamecube damaged, or could it be something else, like a bad soldering (my fathers idea)?

imho reson lies in the wires. It might be soldering, or the connector between wires and the chip. Hope you get it fixed :)

It might just be that the DVD assembly might be a little out of whack, especailly after falling (doesn't really matter what height it was at).

Yes, I'd double check the installation, making sure that the wires are soldered and connected still. Check to make sure that the connector in the QP itself is firmly plugged in and the lid switch bypass is still ok.

After you get this all sorted out, I'd recommend getting some wireless contollers so you don't have to worry about something like this again.

So, i unscrewed the gamecube, and noticed that the cables looked like this (http://img132.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p40418736es.jpg)., Could that be the problem?

As a side note, i think the cables was like that before the accident.

edit: My dad thinks the problem lies in the chip, because originals boots flawlessly. And i've noticed that the time between the "spinup" of the originals and the DVDR-s is huge (<0.5s compared to ~2-3s). Could this be the problem? A game on a DVDr booted just fine a minute ago, but then it just wouldn't boot again when i restarted. Once it boots, it runs like normal. And when i tried another game, it said "The disc could not be read", even though it have worked before.

Part of it lies with how the wires are. Did you break off the tab on the DVD assembly where the wires come out? Doing this will relieve some of the stress on the wire. If you look at the Viper installation instructions, they show where and how it's done.

As it goes for full sized media, I haven't really noticed any loading problems with mine. It must have had a nasty bump for it to act like that again.

Maybe you should try a pot. adjustment. It might be that when it fell, something got tweaked. Check the resistance at the pot. and adjust it accordingly (go to ModThatCube for info regarding this). This might help with the problem.

It's working now! :)

Turned the laser pot. down from 200 to 154 and now it works fine.
