Hey everyone,

Since january I've got booting problems with my Qoob Pro modchip. I got it modded last year (June 2005) and all was working fine until january '06. The problem is, it won't boot even a single game (except originals) that I backed up. That's strange, because I've played those games without any problem on my gamecube before. I changed bios for many times and it's still the same with any other bios. I thought it could be the laser, so I cleaned it with (pure) alcohol. Nothing helped...
I still have guarantee on the modchip, because someone else modded it for me. What can I do?

Thanks anyway!

sounds like laser/media problem

first try to reburn a disc if it looks a little worn/scratched - maybe a slow 1x or 2x burn
if it was modded with guarantee then the shop may be the best place to test/adjust the laser for you - or if laser has started to get too weak for backups - then they could sell you another laser

doubt if the mod is the problem - the light is working, it is allowing the cube to boot originals - if the mod was dead you would normally just get black screen/no laser spin.
if you can boot a game with lid still open then the mod is working fine - coz a gamecube bios won't let you do that and the lid pass-through leads are going through the mod

If your laser potentiometer was turned down too low it could have killed your laser slowly, and now it is to the point that it can no longer be used. Since you cannot open it yourself, you may want to get the installer to check for you.

I'm having the EXACT same problem! the same time period also, I got my chip installed last year, all backups ran perfectly, until a couple of months ago when some backups took a few tries to get running. And then last week, all of my backups stopped playing at all, only original discs worked.
Does this mean the my laser needs tweaking? or has the damage been done and I need to replace the WHOLE laser unit?

the pot needs to be adjusted you can have the installer look at it or u can look at it yourself if it is booting normal games then the laser is not dead but backups have a harder time going thought the GC look at this site for adjusting the pot http://modthatcube.pxn-os.com/
