HI
I just installed a qoob pro in my GC but I can't seem to get it to work the status light on the chip does not even come on . I double check all my wires they are all soldered correctly
Only fan and the amber light from the Cube comes on
I flashed the chip with version 1.3c the chip light comes on when I was flashing it with the USB cable. the bios occupied both slot 1 & 2 but when it’s in the gc the light does not come please help it seem like it’s not getting power or something Ity's a GC REV A & B

i can only say what ive read... as my qoob still does not work. check and make sure the plug is set well. its rather hard to plug in. also make sure and check all your connections again. make sure your wire routing is acceptable, sometimes wires get pinched. a magnifier and multimeter is recommended (or a must).

good luck

Also, check to make sure that your yellow and purple wires are insulated. They may be touching the heatsink or the RF shield (if you have a Ver. C Cube).

And yes, make sure that the wires are not getting pinched by the DVD assembly. If you see where it comes out from under the DVD assembly, you'll see a metal tab you can either bend out of the way or remove completely.

what did you do in the end did you get a new chip? may be that's what I have to do

Oops. After re-reading your post, you actually might have some power issues. Check to make sure you have the 5v wire on the little pad below the resistor shown in the install pics rather than on the resistor itself (the little black rectangle). If you have a difficult time soldering to that point, then there is an alternative 5v point near the connector of the ribbon cable for the controller port. A pic of the spot is available here in these particular forums, or you can just follow the trace of the original 5v spot to the spot on the connector.

Another thing is to check the placement of the black wire (ground). Make sure it's properly bridged on the correct pins. That was my mistake when I first installed my cube.

Be sure to do what Iguanadon mentioned and check to see that the wire harness is firmly clicked into place.

If after you quadruple check your install and it still won't work, remove all the wires and verify that your Cube still functions. You can try to reinstall the QP, but if you don't want to, you might consider getting either a XenoGC or a DuoQ if all you want to do is play backups.

Actualy I had that wire soldered on that resistor's leg since it's seems to be the easiest is it a no no?? is there a way to check if power is going in to that chip using a meter?

Sould be able to. Set your multimeter to read voltage, place the red lead to where you soldered the red wire, clip the black lead to where the black wire is soldered (you can just touch the lead to the solder point. I was taught to "have one hand behind my back" when measuring anything that has a live current and whatnot, to avoid shock), then turn on your Cube. The meter should read ~5v.

I think, though, this is a common mistake with installing the QP. I'm not sure what damage it may cause, but if you have it soldered to the resistor, I'd recommend de-soldering the red wire and solder it to the proper spot. If you need a closer look, head to ModThatCube (http://modthatcube.pxn-os.com/main.htm) for a closer shot of the point in question. It should be the gold point just under the resistor. I beleive that there is also a shot of the alternative 5v spot.
