Alright yes i am very noob to PSP so im posting here. OK I want to get a new PSP but from what i read is that your firmware must be a lower version. So im wondering should i get a new PSP and try to downgrade it or get a used one.

Also if you got any FAQS for Noobs please point them out

Hey, welcome. You want a psp with firmware no higher than 2.0. And once you get it, you should dowgrade to 1.5. This is the best guide out there http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/arch...rade_psp_2.cfm

After that, you can run emulators and loaders etc. Come back with more questions.. I'm looking for answers myself. haha

Thank You For That, Im thinking if i go to the store and buy a PSP im probably going to get a Version 2.5 or whatever latest is.

I was thinking about buying a USED one at my local GameStop. Is there a way to tell the version without opening it.

Uhm i remember seeing that somewhere in a thread... try searching. As for the 2.5 firmware, if you have any intentions of running homebrew dont do that. i reccomend getting 2.00 or lower and being able to enjoy the discoveries coming from this and other sites!

Alright i got a friend who will sell me his PSP Firmware Version 1.5 and a UMD Memory stick and a cable he used to transfer songs and videos.

I was wondering can i play commercial backups from a UMD with a 1.5
I heard some stuff how with GTA:LCS you need to have 2.0

Its well worth having a 1.5, either buy your mates one or you can still get V1.5's on ebay brand new (my mate just got one £145)

You did need to have a v2 for GTA but its now playable on a 1.5 either as an ISO file or directly from the UMD. There is still a few compatability issues with the very latest games but its getting there slowly and if you do a lot of reading in this forum you'll see that more and more of the latest games are now working on a 1.5 dont bother with any other version

hey everyone,

hasnt this been discussed since the PSP came out? FW can be recognised by the letter on the box. so for example A=1.0, B=1.5, C=1.52 and so on. Im not sure if this still goes on but its worth a try. Full details are on the news archive of www.pspupdates.com somewhere so check there before buying a psp.

Ok, so I want to get a new PSP, but my question is the firmware, with which version the new PSPs are coming? Somebody told me that 2.7, and can I check it in the box? Thanks!
