View Full Version : Team Xecuter: Xbox 360 Progress
Team Xecuter, the creators of the Xecuter 3 and Xecuter series of chips for Xbox say "We have made some progress with a new read/patch/write app and no doubt you will all be plugging in your drives to your PC and having some fun shortly - all for free too as no modchips required (and yes we still want to play!".

We have made some progress with a new read/patch/write app and no doubt you will all be plugging in your drives to your PC and having some fun shortly - all for free too as no modchips required (and yes we still want to play!)
Here is what we envisage...
> Connect Xbox 360 DVD-ROM to PC
> App to update firmware with magic code
> Connect DVD-ROM back to 360 - and away you go
Obviousley the only use for this is piracy - hence you wont see any modchips (not from us at least - however they wouldn't be needed anyway - however we do have a few cheap tools to make life much easier - more on that soon) Still a long long way off from unsigned code - but it's a start....
Thanks to The Specialist for reviving the scene! We understand he doesn't want to release anything due to possible backlash - but there are many of us who would - and will.

"Obviousley the only use for this is piracy " should really be "Obviously the only reason to use this is for piracy", as I know MS will like the package so they can reverse engineer their reverse engineering and see how it handles the CR checks to block 360s for online play, or what they have to do to get the DVD drive to update itself through the 360.
It is also a start too, and might show MS why people want to develop on consoles like they do on computers dispite what protections or blockers are put in place. Get those live updates working in our favor and freeSDK's for 360 development before someone else cracks the signature part of the equation and another few MS employees lose their jobs :P
I wonder with this package if it will be possible to extract your DVD lock key via software, as that would be very useful for all owners of 360s when it comes time to replace the drive.

There's someone happy here that he has this drive, first I thought it was fucked up because of the less noisier drive... but as you heard, it will be soon available for all drives...

I can't see it only working for the LG drive, esp if TeamXecuter is behind its public release. The info is there and team xecuter has shown themselves to be far from a copy and paste-type of group with their great bioses.

I'm sure ms will have a patch within a week to block this at least from live. Honestly, I hope that this won't work on live. What made xbox live on the original xbox so great was the lack of cheaters, just play halo 2 on xlink or xbc and you will see how horrible of an experience it is compared to live. Anyway, ms will surely patch this soon at least from working on live.

Not sure MS can access to firmware infos from the live. actualy, you can still play backups with modified firmware on xbox1 ...
Of course not 100% sure of what i'm saying.
After, depend of many things. personnaly, i prefer an amazing mediacenter box and use xlink. ;)

Sorry but, quite how will this modified DVD firmware allow more cheaters, as you imply? Out of interest, have you ever even played Halo2 on xlink kai? Hardly anybody bothers cheating, since it isn't ranked and people tend to entirely play for fun and skillful competition. After reaching just after level 30 on live at team-slayer, almost half the games involved cheaters, so I switched to xlink kai and the cheaters are almost non-existant (at least in europe)

the difference with live and tunnels is that tunnels cant check for modified ini files or anything like that.
this mod only allows for booting backups. even if ms cant detect wether a console is running dvd-rs or originals, they can still check ini files etc.
developers could also integrate sensitive files in the xex files witch have to be signed and thus cant be tampered with.
i wouldnt worry about cheaters on live

yes and even if ms could not detect the cheating with software you would have to be retarded to do it anyway sence if a ms rep is the one to shoot you in the head a billion times and you keep going you might as well have screamed this is a dvd-r

Just FYI the file you are refering to ("Hitachi-LG.DVD.FW.Replacement.XBOX360.rar", I hope mentioning filenames is ok) is a fake. It contains some photos of the insides of a 360 plus a flasher that is "designed to flash a GDR-8163b with the LG 8050L firmware".
In other words: congratulations, you found out how to make a Xbox drive out of a PC-DVD-Rom. And you made yourself look like a fool in the process :)

correct me if im wrong but this firmware hack doesnt give you any room for actually modifying files, so cheating wont be possible (yet)

Only the main executable is signed as of right now, so any other files on the disc could be modified and used, to the best of my understanding.

if that were true it would be possiple to replace one of the files in order to activate some sort of exploit to get the brewing started perhaps but...

with teams like Xecuter on this im confident it can lead to good things in the future. would it be possable to modify the FW to the point where we're running homebrew but the FW is reporting it as valid code? that way the hypervisor is never the wiser....
if M$ would have let us run homebrew from day 1 and wouldnt have been so cocky they could have prevented piracy, at least so soon. i mean most ppl would have been happy enuf with homebrew they wouldent have wanted to pirate current gen games and something like this wouldent have been dev'd nearly as soon if at all.
So if this hack is only ever useful for piracy i dont think you can feel to bad, M$ could have stopped it but their a bunch of donkey's so now they deserve it.
EDIT: saosin, xlink and xbc(xbox connect) are tunneling apps you run on ur PC to play system link enabled games online without having to play on live, games have to be system link though to play on xlink.
try google next time.

Let me explain on how incredibly cool I thought this was.
First I thought this was for the original Xbox to modify the firmware. I then literally gasped for air and cried in happiness.
Then I read everything and then realized it was for the 360. Then this is what happened.
I first **** myself. I then took off all my clothes ran out in the street and yelled THERE IS A GOD!!! THERE IS A GOD!!!!
PRAISE JESUS!!!
I don't condone piracy either. BUT I do burn games before I choose to buy them. That's my motto. And I wanna make my backups so my dvd-rom a.k.a the belt sander. Doesn't destroy my 70 dollar game and I'm **** outa luck.

No. The DVD drive only reports the media type thats spinning inside of it. This firmware hack simply forces the drive to report a false media type in order to bypass the media flag protection.
The DVD drive has nothing to do with verifying signed files, so no modification of the DVD firmware could bypass this check.
I think the people who only see this hack as a piracy tool only are missing the bigger picture. Right now, this is our best hope of finding some type of exploit that can bypass the security of the system. Remember the Kiosk disk? Remember how hard people slaved over experimenting with shaders and editing files? Well now, all at once, every disk in the Xbox360 library becomes the "kiosk disk".

I don't think so, since you can already connect it directly to a PC with a sata cable. Maybe they are doing a firmware selector mod, now that would be cool.

I quite agree, I have all the latest gadgets/consoles and spend a small fortune on software for them. The last thing I need is to start buying it all again. I work hard, I play hard, but it doesn't mean I should pay hard.
Re-buying software has always got my back up, and I'm yet to find a console that has indestructible media, or the option to replace your eaten media. Although the DS is good I have a game for that aswell that doesn't work, as for UMD's *sigh* such a delicate media after making something as robust as Minidisc, $ony what are you thinking...
I mean for goodness sake I paid almost £450 on my xbox and a game, spare contoller etc. The game is already getting a bit touch and go, FIFA 06 RTWC is a great game and gets myself and mates bashing it for many an hour. If it dies they'll be a communal crying session I fear......
Anyway just my 2 cents, and should it become available I can't wait to be able to put the originals away in the cupboard and keep them all nice and safe and just play the backups. It's the way it should be done when the cost of a few games outcosts the original console itself. You get warranty on the console, have you tried replacing a scratched game.....?

well i have never once scratched a disc so its unreadable for any console, also I have never lost a game. I put all the boxes together and when Ive finished with a game I put it back in the box. Thus the game is never damaged. If im being honest I wouldnt bother opening your console and voiding your warrenty. Because MS or the game companies will patch this in either feature updates or games.

I figure they are doing some sort of hardware device that will either reprogram it via USB so people without SATA boards can use it, this would include a power adapter so no one has to hotswap or have their 360 beside the comp to do it. Or they are trying to figure out the other flags and disable them - like region mode reporting, xbox game media reporting, dvd movies etc before releasing it - as all discs will detect as an original 360 dispite what they are and I don't know if the 360 would like that..
Even if they arn't I can't see anything hitting the net from them until they have some sort of device they can retail to make a bit of profit, at least that my pov.

Would it be possible to emulate the DVD drive in a chip and mount an image on a hard drive into it?
