Hello, I have Swap Magic v. 3.6 US version. I use Maxell cd's because i have never had a problem while burning DVD's to watch on my tv; the dvd movies are on the same maxell's and they work on my PS2. One game that i burned using swap magic works wonderfully, but all of the rest do not. I used Alcohol 120% and put it to the lowest speed. When i try to play the games, I insert the game using swap magic, and it sounds like it reads the disk, then the screen goes black and never goes anywhere else from there. I dont know what to do. Please help.

Not sure if they fixed it with SM 3.6, but there might be a TOC issue with your game. If the game is over 600MB or so (forgot the exact size), the CD version of SwapMagic won't work. Most games that are ripped from DVD have this issue in particular.
You may need another disc called the Breaker Pro. Most shops online carry this. You'll need to first start up the SM CD, then hit the eject button, put the Breaker Pro CD in, let the PS2 read the disc, then swap out the Breaker Pro for the game you'd like to play.
If you need a Breaker Pro (it has to be an original), you can find it at most online shops for less than $25 or so.

No, you'll need the breaker pro to play CD games ripped from DVDs. You'll need another disc called CD Loader (available for download, please search Google.com for it). In some extreme cases (ie. Soul Calibur 2), you'll need the CD Loader to load DVD games. You'll also need an original PS2 DVD-ROM game with a large TOC (ie. Devil May Cry) to load it.
It can be cumbersome to load some games, not to mention a lot of patience. But if you don't feel like soldering a chip in, an SM set is the way to go. I used it for a while, but my GF didn't want to do all that swapping. I myself sent my PS2 out to get modded.
There are some sites that you can send in your PS2 in to have it modified. One in particular that I recommend is Norcalmods.com (http://www.norcalmods.com).

No downfalls for the system itself. The only one I can think of is all the swapping you'll be doing. I got tired of swaping discs, hence my option of modding the console.
As for the same problems, I'm not so sure about it. I used the Swap Magic 3 CD version and the Swap Magic 2 DVD and it worked fine for me. It all depends on your DVD Recorder and the quality of the disc.
